  2. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2385163,00.html I don't know what they sell, apart fron Southampton Ale
  3. The guys on horseback are not matadors, they are called picadors and are there purely to soften up the bull for the matador. I admire the horese riding skills of the picadors, but the rest of it is pretty abhorrent.
  4. Excellent news. Just hope he can cut it in a higher league.
  5. A proportion (50% I think) needs to be paid up front, so this could be taken by credit card. However, iirc the TO doesn't have pin facilities, so any family members coming disguised as the genuine STH will need to practice the signature, rather than memorise the pin.
  6. I got one, but I deleted it without reading it as I thought it was spam (I've been getting spam from people with unusual names recently). If it had come from "Southampton FC", I'd have read it. I wonder how many others did this?
  7. Be honest now, that clap of thunder was enough to make anyone cr @p themselves, there's no need to blame the cat.
  8. Stand in front of me & you'll get a gob full.
  9. Wow. Assuming you worked 40 weeks per year, thats £108,000 pa. That's some salary at todays prices, let alone the 80s & 90s.
  10. That's excellent. I wish I had 1% of that skill. A bit disappointed that neither of them volleyed the ball into the basketball hoop. Loved the reaction of the lads behind, very funny.
  11. I have a mate whose wife is retraining, I believe she is 3 years into a 5 year course, in those 3 years she has not had a penny of income, they barely get by on his salary alone which is around the average salary level. For those of us with families, mortgages, etc simply retraining is not a viable option. My family couldn't get by for 5 years on my wife salary alone. With regards to the highlighted bit, I don't believe for one moment that the entire class are bored & disruptive, sure there will be some, but if it is the whole class that brings into question the quality of the teacher, who I believe is there to inspire, not just teach. I would suggest retraining to a profession more suited to your skills if teaching is becoming a chore (I assume you are a teacher).
  12. You're right, and I support the low paid bin men. However, I don't support the highly paid teachers.
  13. Don't think so, back on strike tomorrow I believe. They've done Appleton, but not Hillside or Dimond (where I Live). For those that don't know, you can only access Appleton from either Dimond of Hillside. One would assume that a bin man lives somewhere in Appleton Rd.
  14. My sons school have, on strike Thursday, INSET day Friday. I heard from the secretary at my youngest sons school, that their last INSET day was team bonding at Go Ape, she is new to the job and when she expressed surprise was told by the head that "it was one of the perks of the job". Tough life innit.
  15. I've got 5, one for rugby coaching, one for Cubs, one for Ambulance service and each for my sons schools. What a waste of time & money.
  16. I watched about half the Coldplay set, they are not my cup of tea, I find them a bit bland and insipid and I think Chris Martin has a very weak & wishy washy voice. Having said that, they seemed to get the crowd going, and that's what it's all about. If you don't like them don't go to their gigs, or watch them on the telly. If you do like them, fair play & enjoy the gig. A band that surprised me was Kool & the Gang, again it's not my type of music, but for a bunch of old timers they did a good set & looked they were having tge time of their lives. I couldn't believe it when the trumpeter did a cartwheel across the stage, he must have been over 60.
  17. Astroturf
  18. The Brook is fantastic. I've seen many bands there over the years, and it's only about a mile from home. I've seen some great performers there, Paul Young, Toyah, 10cc, The Alarm, Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters, and next month, some real Legends, The Wurzels . The only downside is that when it's packed you can't get to the bar easily. It would, imho, benefit form a bar next to the entrance (where it used to be before the extension was built), to complement the existing bars on busy nights.
  19. That is a valid point. I've flattened all the recycling down, removed & crushed the tins & given them to a family friend who takes them to Tescos, where he gets loyality points on his club card. The newspapers were taken to the tip in Michelmersh (on my way to work). My recycling bin was emptied on Friday, so I can start afresh with it making sure everthing is flattened. As for the main waste bin, it's full, but the lid will close, everthing is bagged & squashed. If it's not emptied today I shall be taking that to Michelmersh too.
  20. Fwiw my politics has always been left of centre, I've always voted labour, but I have no sympathy what-so-ever with the teachers. I’m fed up with people in well paid jobs whining about how tough they have it, be grateful you have a job. The company I work for have had so little come in during the last year that I fully expect to be made redundant, I’ve been hanging on by my finger tips and honestly can’t believe I’m still here, I’ve not had a pay rise for 2 years, which in real terms is a pay cut and my wife’s hours have been cut. (She’s NHS, and for Dunes benefit, she isn’t in a union.). My eldest son was supposed to be doing the first part of his DofE expedition course on Wednesday & Thursday, this has been cancelled because of the strike. I shelled out nearly £200 on walking boots, sleeping bag, rucksack, clothing etc which will not now be used. Thanks guys. I appreciate teachers do a difficult job, and from my experience they generally do it well, but then, so do many of us. When I retire, (in about 23 year time) I really don’t know what I’m going to do for an income. I had my pension statement delivered on Saturday, and I’m currently looking at £3500 pa, clearly this nor or my wife’s pension (which is less than mine) will sustain us in our dotage and we can’t afford to increase the payments. You’re not the only ones to have it tough.
  21. I believe they are working Monday & Tuesday, back on strike on Wednesday. They are supposed to be carrying on from where they left of 2 weeks or so ago, but on a work to rule. This basically means slowly & not taking the rubbish that isn't actually in a bin. Best to just leave them out until Wed mornimg, if they collect them, all well & good. My blue bin was collected on Friday, so I guess the green one will go tomorrow.
  22. Bloody hell. I've just had heart failure. I've opened a thread entitled "OK what happens now" to read the first post: Then the second post: I went to the OS expecting some earth shattering announcement, only to read about ticket prices & the like. Then I clocked the date. You B*******.
  23. Try Centurion Business Park, (next to Northam Bridge). I don't think you need a permit, and as long as you don't park outside of the same business every day I doubt if you'll get rumbled
