  1. I think that PFC is right. Pompey are undoubtedly much larger and more significant than us because of their past history. I content myself in the knowledge however that my second team is Wanderers. A bunch of ex public school boys , they won the FA Cup 5 times in the 1870's. By PFC's reckoning that makes them one of the biggest clubs in England. Manchester City, may be top of the Premiership and may be looking good things for the last 16of the Champions League but they are not such a big club as the Wanderers. I mean Man City only won the 5th of their FA Cups this year. Wanderers won their 5th FA Cup over 130 years ago!! I am sure that PFC and his logic would recognise that they are a bigger club than Manchester City and are a much bigger club than Pompey !!
  2. Come on - tell us. Its a council house you live in so it is not yours to gamble away!!
  3. Away victories are given a higher rating than home victories - could explain Nigel's relatively low position in the table.
  4. I agree. Adkins out!!
  5. I think it was the human side of things that let the academy down a few years ago. As well as the problem highlighted above with the attitudes of the likes of Best, McG, Dyer etc it seemed to do very little to encourage the youngsters to want to play for Southampton. The way that the likes of Matt Mills, Crainie (leaving us to join Pompey FFS!!), Best, Blackstock etc all moved on at seemingly the first opportunity to me indicated that there was no "club spirit". We were producing good players but other teams reaped the rewards. Mind you, I suppose you could say that the lack of club spirit at that time emanated from the boardroom down and that you couldn't blame yongsters for wanting to leave if they could see what a state the club was in.
  6. His book is a good read as well. Written everal years ago , it pulls no punches and is brutally honest about his gambling addiction. For his sake, I hope that he has now overcome that.
  7. The local BBC radio station referred to our manager as Ian Adkins. Thats a strongly worded letter to the BBC Director General. I bet they wouldn't dare call him Barry Allardyce !!
  8. Did they ever get into our 6 yard box during the first half?? They once had an opportunity when Fox & Jos both went for the same ball & left a Covebntry player in a loy of space but he chose to shoot from long range, I think that was the nearest they got to us in the first half.
  9. Every morning before I go to work, I sneak a little look on Ceefax. It sets me up very nicely for the day ahead.
  10. I am not surprised that they are calling him childish. Just think , if Dagenham & Redbridge could get a Rickie Lambrt type striker, they would be top of the Championship in a couple of seasons.
  11. Nice to see that the Clot hasn't changed. Apparently Forest were incredibly unlucky to lose. Differnt club but same story
  12. I heard MLT being interviewed during the international break. He reckoned that we must be considered very highly if the next 4games could yield 8,9 or 10 points . 8 points and not dropping any points to promotion rivals like West Ham and Boro fits the bill nicely!!
  13. He hasn't disappeared. He still regularly logs on and looks at the forum - his member profile shows he came on here on 24 October. Remember also that he claims to post on the main board using another name. He claims to use his wife's // sister's computer whilst wearing her knickers or something. I reckon he is lying. A true lass from Pompey wouldn't own any knickers !!
  14. What p***s me off is that when the 6-3 game gets mentioned these days, the radio media refer to it as the grey shirts game when Fergie made them change their shirts at half time. This was mentioned recently on Talk Sport. To be honest you don't listen to Talk Sport if you want sensible rational information so I did not get too concerned. Last week however FiveLive made the same mistake. To avoid any doubt we beat manu 3-1 (the grey shirts game) in April one year and we beat them 6-3 in October the same year - but different seasons. Talk Sport probably cannot conceive "lowly" Southampton as ever being capable of beating the mighty Man U. 5 Live these days are probably too busy making and playing their incessant jingles to bother to check facts.
  15. I found it impossible to get a beer yesterday. I was stuck in a queue which didn't move for 10 minutes & in the end gave it up as a bad job. Clearly I was in the wrong part of the ground ... but from where I was , we have nothing to learn from the Reading catering.
  16. I agree with much of this but would like a place to be found for Dickson. One of the forgotten men of the squad , I think he has something to offer.
  17. Yes it was. Why do you think they even got that number??
  18. No. Adkins does it as 5+ and 1 negative so that is what we should do.
  19. Lets do this the Adkins way: 5 positives from the match: 1. The defence stood up very well to all the corners that Reading had. Must have been about 15 and we comfortably dealt with them all. 2. Chaplow's performance. I felt previously that he was inconsistent. One good performance would be followed by a poor one. He was my MOM against West Ham and I thought he was equally good today. 3.The spirit around the club is so good. The fans were fantastic - especially in comparison with the shockingly quiet Reading bunch. This spirit was reciprocated by the players. To come back when 1-0 down with 10 men is magnificent. The way that the players came to celebrate with the fans once SDR had scored was superb. 4. Our fitness. We may have started slowly but we finished the stronger team. The goal was coming for us ... and if SDR had slipped the ball to Caaplow in the last 5 minutes instead of taking one touch too many, we could easily have had the winner. 5. Hammond's suspension will only ( I guess) be for the League Cup game - for which he may well have been rested. The 1 negative: The way that we couldn't hold the ball up in the first half which meant that Reading seemed to always have possession.
  20. I was taught that you have to say 7 positive things to one negative if you want the recipient to take the message on board in a positive manner. I will go back to my teacher and tell him that he is wrong. If Nigel does it 5:1 rather than 7:1, then five it is!!
  21. I take your point .... but who says that the verdict is not guilty??? Corp Ho - and he is the most laughed at poster on this board. I would never believe a word he says. If Corporate Ho says that Storrie teller is not guilty, the only likely verdict is guilty. Ignore whatever he says. Laugh at it and move on. Nobody yet knows what the verdict will be - least of all Corp Ho.
  22. Oh no. Not this old chestnut!! For reasons that defeat me this subject gets people going on here. How dare you suggest that SMS will be expanded. You will soon be subject to torrents of abuse and ridicule from Delldays and Turkish with Asda and climbing Everest being brought into the debate. I know that it is a sensible option but some people get very worked up on this subject!!

    Attendance

Its going to be like the poe vault world record which kept on being bettered by 1 cm. Each time there is a new record there is more publicity. there will probably be another 48 records between this attendance and 32,200!!
  24. I am sorry - you do not know what you are talking about. Corp Ho says their attendances are increasing ... and he is never wrong is he ????
