I can understand why Sunak isn't calling an election in early May and will want to hang on for as long as possible. The polls indicate a Tory disaster and he is hoping that "something will turn up". All that he is doing though by hanging on is trashing the Tory brand. Every week something bad comes up which damages the party - this week it is Tory racist donors and the Lee Anderson defection. Last week it was Islamaphobia and Budget despondency. God knoes what it will be next weeh. If Hunt doesn't raise the income tax thresholds he will increase the tax take from the " squeezed middle". More and more "ordinary" people will become higher rate taxpayers. You are one of my favourite posters and I normally agree with your posts but how does a NI cut only benefit the over 65s?? You don't pay NI on earnings if you are still working when you are over 65.

If we are looking for areas where money was lost lets not forget the madness that was Liz Truss. Economists debate the cost of her reign and nobody will know the exact figure but estimates of £30 billion are bandied around as being reasonable.
