Prof - thats what worries me, a lack of ambition. Scheiderlin has issued a challenge on behalf of us all to the Board. But, I think you might be right. The concern I have is that there is no guarantees we'll find extra quality in the notoriously poor January window.

Actually - just re-read it. Can't argue with most of the points he has made. I view this as a sound warning of what may come from fans if Les Reed and the Board fail to deliver players and ambition back this summer. I'm trying to remain optimistic. Potentially 5 great players out and one possibly good player in.... I'm wondering though. Not disgruntled .... YET. Good warning though Simon. Hope the Board and our owner read it.

Disgruntled? Not yet. Concerned? Hell yeah. Disgruntled comes on 1 Sep if we haven't secured quality replacements and have been thrashed by Liverpool on day one.

This is an interesting point worth considering. I think we'll potentially have lost x5 key players though so have to replace. But I see what you're getting at. My point though needs weighing up with this too. That is that if we demonstrate lack of ambition this summer and fail to replace with quality we may fail to stay out of the bottom half of the table (a strong possibility in my opinion - partly for the reasons you're articulating). If we haven't invested and rely on the notoriously poor choice in the January window we may get caught out. For me therefore, whilst your point is very well made and got me thinking, I think we have to invest strongly now.

I see Fonte falling apart without Lovren. He is twice the player with Lovren next to him. It's like losing Killer. Claus was half the CB when he left.

I don't think he should have a statue. I don't think we should name a stand after him. But I do like the idea of replacing the seats on the Chapel or Northam so that he is there, behind us and supporting us.... Yet reminding KL that tributes, made of seats can be replaced. But....One day I'd like to see them both graduate to a statue, father and daughter together, the family that saved and invested in Southampton to make us into a top four team.... The Barcelona of the English football. Achieve that and you get a statue as owners.

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that we need to buy a replacement for Lovren and pay top whack to do so. Then let Judas II go to Scouse-hampton for £20-25m. But replace before selling.

My views: In priority order (always start at the back when putting a team together!) 1. GK. Boruc is good but we need someone better. 2. CB. To replace Lovren. I assume he's going. Probably to Liverpool as they'll pay well over the odds. Just one as we have two steady replacements with Yoshida and Hoesfeld. 3. LB (s). We need two. A replacement for Shaw as an attacking left sided wingback. And a steady left sided defender for Fox, to provide competition and the odd cross or two! 4. CF (s). We need a minimum of two. Sharp is back. So needs to be given a chance. But we need a replacement for Osvaldo, Pelle(?) and a replacement for Lambert, Ings (?). 5. Impact subs. We need someone with pace who can come on with pace and accuracy, that Norwich lad will do! We need a couple of game changers. 6. Midfield. We need an engine and second defensive midfield option to replace Schneiderlin if he leaves. Almost impossible task. What worries me is that to gel that lot we need them in quickly. I am worried that we are being slow - too slow - in bringing in players. The other thing that worries me is that there are no guarantees that we will find replacements who will settle quickly. A bad CB and our new strikers taking time to settle and a poor replacement for Schneiderlin could see us rooted firmly to the bottom of the table early in the season. Failing to spend early on minimising this risk will make it harder to bring in quality in January. Success breeds success, but right now there are still more negatives surrounding the club than positives. We need to get a CB in quick of high quality as a priority (GK can follow). Spend high on a CB and let Lovren (Judas II) go.

But on a positive note...I will never forget the roar when Henri Camara scored against Norwich. That was simply amazing - hairs stand up when I think of that!!!

Things could be worse! We'd just finished 8th, lost our outstanding manager who'd got us there, eventually appointed a highly acclaimed manager who failed through lack of boardroom support, we lost a critical player or two (killer) & England left back, lost our young home grown youth talent (Theo, et al) and we were being poorly managed in the Boardroom who we're investing in infrastructure and not buying enough players ... and fans were getting nervous and were at each other's throats on the Saintsweb forum. We relegated in our home made shirts and our England strikers wanted out of the club. Thank goodness times have changed. ...... This time at least our owner isn't a plc, our Board isn't run by Rupert Lowe and we have money to support our acclaimed manager to buy the 6-8 high quality players he needs. (I hope so anyway). History is a dangerous tutor. But it is the only one we have.
