Competition is a joke this season. Derby and Villa have to play their U10’s but Shrewsbury somehow get it rearranged. VAR at some grounds and not at others, drawing two rounds at once with about 200 permutations for each game. Farcical.

Whenever I go into my local supermarket, there’s a traffic light system to control numbers meaning I can safely socially distance. If it’s red, I wait outside. When I get inside, there’s a one way system and it’s usually full of law abiding adults wearing masks who understand the need to stay 2m apart, not full of young children trying to lick your face. Then when I get to the checkout, there’s handy floor markings allowing my to queue up safely with 2m distance. The staff are either behind a protective screen, wearing a face mask, or both. I then sanitise my hands, as I have throughout, and leave the shop. Schools by their very nature are not Covid secure and never will be. This comparison is utterly pointless.

I imagine they’ll end up closing them within the next few hours, let alone weeks!

This has been really, really poor, especially second half. Ings looks affected by this poxy contract situation.

I’d have kept Adams on over Long, no matter how poor he was. What’s the point?

Schools have been the elephant in the room since September. With this new variant clearly more transmissible among children, the government have a clear choice to make. If they decide to keep schools open, they need to level with the public that the R number is very unlikely to fall below 1 as a result. Get teachers higher up the vaccination list and then batten down the hatches and hope for the best until spring. The current dithering and window dressing cannot be allowed to continue. The choice is easy - keep them open and have the virus largely out of control until spring, or close them, reduce the R number but deal with a loss of education, exam chaos and mental health issues. I don’t really envy those making the decision.
