I know exactly what you mean. taken a step further, I am never relaxed until we are past the 40 point mark or mathematically safe from relegation. Mind you, I could get an infraction for having such thoughts in the 21st century ! Double plus good !!!
Koeman is a 'safety first' manager. This is understandable when his quad has been weakened over he summer. I am sure the aim this year is to try and sit in the middle of the table and stay out of trouble.
The trouble is that the players can quickly lose confidence in their ability to win if they are just concentrating on not losing.
In a way, losing against the likes of Utd, Chelski, Arsenal, Everton, Swansea and Whum, wil not define our season. What really matters will be beating our nearest rivals like Bournemouth, Sunderland, Watford, Stoke etc.
It is inevitable that we will lose some of our top players, but what I find frustrating is that we don't seem to replace them with anywhere near the same quality.
I hope not, as this is what led us to relegation last time. The only difference this time is that we have a manager that should see us clear of relegation. The season is so far going as I predicted, a fight to stay up.
