  1. Some interesting comments from Saint Charlie on the transfer window review thread re Billy Sharp and I know he does have some good contacts: Just been told by someone who would definitely know that no bids from Prem teams came in for Billy this summer. Also that Forest didn't want him (which was pretty obvious) and loan approaches were made by Barnsley, Doncaster and Sheff Wed, all of which wanted to pay far less than 50% of his wages hence being turned down. Seems pretty clear that Billy isn't good enough for the prem but is on wages which Championship teams can't compete with.
  2. Probably why he would rather Barry was here. A very calm and composed finish!
  3. Are you expecting us to win the league or something?
  4. The expectations of Ramirez were never justified. He's good young player signed for what was a relatively large amount of money for us. I wonder if Everton fans are now expecting a wonder season from James McCarthy signed for the same price. In todays market, £12M for an attacking player should get you a decent and competent player in the prem but you won't get a world beater. Ramirez contributed by scoring enough and assisting enough to help us get the points needed to stay up.
  5. He didn't score any free kicks and I can't recall any assists from them either...
  6. This isn't a charity, it's not about people deserving chances just for the sake of it. The management will have seen Billy train, seen how he works within the system we now play and conclude that he isn't good enough. Billy gets much more support on here than others who have been in a similar situation (Hammond) because he is a nice guy and had a tough time recently. At the same time, people like you are the first to start sticking the boot into players if they don't perform well so maybe it's a blessing that Billy didn't play in the prem because his limitations will have been exposed and it wouldn't take long for the boo boys to turn.
  7. This sums it up well for me.
  8. We have 3 players who can play in the 1 striker position we employ so it would take a bizarre circumstance which meant us turning to Sharp and in any case, the club are more likely to invest time and opportunity in U21's if needed.
  9. Shame about your witch thread Bazza
  10. That's probably him finished with us though. Hardly used in first season, loaned out the next and even if he does well there, he'll come back with a year or two on his contract and would prob want to opt to go elsewhere rather than risk another season of being not used or loaned out.
  11. If true, either Ramirez or Morgan IMO.
  12. Well our only "blue chip" signing which you can judge based on value is Ramirez. Lovren, Wanyama and Osvaldo are clearly class players but we can't judge those either way for a while yet.
  13. Don't get silly now.
  14. Agree with this in spite of this thread. The only way we'll know for sure is if he gets a run of games. I'd like to see a front 4 of the following given a run of 5 games or so: Rodriguez Ramirez Lallana Osvaldo If Ramirez doesn't make an impact in a settled line-up, the writing will be on the wall.
  15. Clyne, Yoshida, Davis, Boruc, Cork, Rodriguez....all successful signings from last 2 seasons, more than half a team.
  16. If Glasgow and I where somehow part of the scouting/transfer committee at Saints, we'd have an incredible squad by now.
  17. Cheers pal, hope your graciousness rubs off all over the face's of others.
  18. Just bumping this to see if anyone who gave me grief about this thread wants to apologies? Once again, I demonstrate remarkable foresight and I usually graciously go about my business quietly and professionally but do feel compelled to call this out on this occassion.
  19. Agree to some extent but I don't think there is anything similar to Lowes days, at the least the intention is very different anyway. Clyne should play ahead of Chambers when fit and JWP shouldn't be part of the attacking quartet either. The only concern is if the club feel obliged to play academy players now that it's been called out as rather positive that we started the season with 4 academy lads in the starting line up.
  20. Wiltshere was at Bolton, as was Sturridge
  21. No, the other would back up the other and we still have Rodriguez.
  22. Why did St Chalet close the Mayuka thread? Big difference between a player leaving and the types of discussion that opens up over a generic transfer window day thread. Are we supposed discuss the impact of Mayuka leaving just here then?
  23. So he hasn't actually gone yet then?
