To be fair though, these teams don't do it year in year out on the scale that Utd did in early 90's and Barca more recently. Having excellent infrastructure and commitment obviously helps but I think there is an element of seizing a golden crop which occurs not that often at all. Whether it will happen for us in the next few years remains to be seen but for the immediate future, the only chance we have will be in the trsnsfer market and it will cost a hell of a lot.

Keeping Shaw this summer will be a good start. I know others don't rate him too highly but I think JWP will be a very good player and not likely to want to go anywhere either. Be interesting to see who the next one will be to seriously challenge for a place.

And other players of other clubs, just not as good as the hype.

Yea, a bit like when we were all saying that we would be promoted from League 1, and then promoted again from the Championship and then to stay in the Premier League. We've been massively off with our expectations in recent seasons.

For me, we need 2 CB's, DM competition, pace on the wings and a striker. A couple of general squad additions as well. I don't know how much money it would cost, no one does. It's about getting quality suitable for premier league so that we can perform to a much more consistent level. On our day we can be as good as teams in the top 6 but no way near to playing at that level most weeks.

Pardew was the last good passion coach we had. As for Pulis, there were a few on here earlier in the season who were lauding the merits of TP and Stoke City so I would imagine you will get big support on this thread even if TP is not my cup of tea.
