  1. Trouble is, it is the law of diminishing returns that applies here. If you want someone say twice as good as lambert, you will have to pay 10x his wages.
  2. Hi Adam
  3. Far be it for me to pylon the puns...
  4. Ahh, must have missed that. Church of England leadership in right wing capitalist infiltration scandal. That explains everything.
  5. The protesters may have spoke to the H&S brigade, but the fact remains that because of their presence, the church feels unable to open its doors to the public. Perhaps that they think that the protesters intimidate their visitors and parishioners, not in a overtly aggressive way but by their very presence. As to just sticking it out, when you are losing £16,000 a day, you can't stick it out for very long, but hey it's just the church, no one really cares about them anyway.
  6. Perhaps it is time for them to move on. All they are acheiving at the moment is put the finances of St Pauls at serious risk. The longer it goes on and the worse the situation becomes for the church, the more public sentiment will turn against them.
  7. Meh. if it means that our first team are fresh for saturday, so be it.
  8. The Germans and the French may have something to say about that. In fact Sarkozy did earlier this week. With regards to the costs and complexities of leaving, it's a bit like divorce - costs lots and is traumatic, however it is still the right decision. Cost shouldn't not be used as a reason not to leave in the same way as it shouldn't be used as a reason not to stay.
  9. In the NHS trust case, do they have to prioritise eu manufactured goods or is it the wholesaler that needs to be EU. i.e do they have to choose grundig (if they still exist) over samsung for instance
  10. There would laws regarding anti trust and product quality to comply with for example, but the other stuff such as employee rights, human rights etc would be up to us to determine
  11. Employee rights considerations don't stop Europe importing tonnes of chinese goods. There is some middle ground here. The germans and french are still going to want to sell us renaults and bmws and they equally will want to continue to buy british goods. We don't need to be tied politically for that to happen.
  12. A pair of tits and a vag... sounds like you have described some of the people I work with. So to answer the OP, I would rather have neither but am cursed with both on a daily basis
  13. Pretty much everyone I have met in the us would define themselves as an American over the state of their origin. I have worked extensively in the us so I feel pretty confident about this. However if you can track down ohio, he may settle the argument
  14. The big difference is that in the us people regard themselves as Americans first and foremost, therefore sharing common goals and ideology. The same could not be said for the various inhabitants of the states of Europe. It can never work in the same way.
  15. Hasn't hurt switzerland. This is not about isolationism (although given Sarkozy's comments I think we may already be there). Europe was supposed to be about reducing barriers to trade, that is what I would like us to return to, without ceding rafts of legislative powers to Brussels. At the end of the day there are too many polarised national interests to ever make the EU work properly. The Euro is a great example of that.
  16. If this is your first job and considering the economic state, grab whatever you can with both hands. When things pick up it will be easier to negotiate a raise, plus your boss will have had a chance to see if you are worth it.
