  1. Spurs becoming even more detestable with that signing. Trouble is though that Kane, Son, and Richarlison always seem to score against us, so the opening day for our team of youngsters becomes a more daunting task.
  2. Thought I’d seen this bastard somewhere before:
  3. Exactly. Could have been worse no doubt, but for me too much white, why the plain back that in itself seems unsaintslike. It isn't a classic enough design to be an Ajax shirt, but could pass for a PSG away strip. And then the spiderman graphics on the white. Did the kit designer allow his retarded 12 year old to import something onto his laptop from an 'etch-a-sketch' ?
  4. Perhaps we're both sad anoraks remembering such detail, but trouble is the recollections of Saints from the 1960's/70's/80's is much more enjoyable than anything now.
  5. I remember watching the rerun a few years ago, and the thing that stood out were the fairly hefty challenges going in without malice or reaction from either team. Everyone got up shrugged it off and got on with the game. Pretty sure there were no subs permitted back them so Alf (before the knighthood before I'm called disrespectful) and Hemut Schoen selected their XI who they trusted to go the course. When people marvel at Alan Ball, and Nobby Styles energy during the match it's worth remembering (without taking anything away from them) there wasn't another choice for them or the mangers. No managers in waistcoats to tinker and bugger around to disrupt the teams rythem. Also saw an old England-Scotland match on youtube from the early 1960's , one of the full backs was injured early on and spent the rest of the match hobbling round, I think Kenneth Wolstenholme made reference to "the poor fellow can barely walk..". Puts a different light on the play acting pansies rolling around now.
  6. was George Best the first red card at The Dell ?
  7. Blackburn played at The Dell towards the end of the season, and were slaughtered 5-0, but most people at the match only spoke of one thing and that was the relentless abuse at Bailey throughout the game. I really wanted to go to that match, but as a student at the time had a job on the Saturday so had to go back for that. It was about the only time I thought of playing a 'sickie' , even considered telling them to stick the job as there were more important things in life( Saints and beer at the time..), but a couple of relatives persuaded me out of it. One of the great games that season but I had to miss it. Bailey really did get a lot of flak for years to come. I think he became even more dislikable at Everton.
  8. Think it was November 1977 (!) in our promotion year. Where did the years go ?
  9. I think Laimer was the Austrian MF they were going on about last summer, but Grillitsch is good DM, and is a free agent having let his contract at Hoffenheim run down. Will be bigger clubs in the hunt though. Shame Ralph can't sell them 'the Tyrol on Solent' card to bring Grillitsch and Kalajdzic in.
  10. Was trying to forget about him over the summer, but it is a reminder as to how poor the squad depth is. Strikes me as another player whose best position might be at Ross County, or the Second Division in Turkey.
  11. Just found this, two years left. Linked with Leeds in this article, although I'd have thought they'd already added some decent MF options. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/sheffield-united-issue-fresh-financial-stance-over-leeds-united-summer-target/
  12. If we were looking at the Sheffield Utd squad last season Sander Berg as a DM might be a decent option. (Yes, fully aware Gibbs-White was on loan there from Wolves).
  13. Would have thought a specially embroided retro shirt is the lease they can do. Mind you I'm still waiting for the club shop to stock a Daily Express 5a side retro shirt as well. Perhaps we can add this to the repertoire of songs when playing mouthy Big 6 teams "Bill Halsey Memorial Cup.. you'll never win that..".

Think it might have been a case of passing up on them rather than "missing out". Daka is a strange one, highly rated, linked with several of the big clubs, but his season petered out at Leicester .* *await someone telling us he was injured half a season.
  15. Hopefully with Everton at some point.
  16. This would be a good signing from the little I've seen on the internet and read about him. From the snippets of speculation and rumour though it does sound as if bigger clubs are interested and he is holding out for Bayern.
  17. Thought he was linked with Palace. Question though, if Sangare couldn't get a work permit how will this bloke ?

You'd assume the idea is for both to return to their top divisions asap.
  19. What prompted that obscure question ?
  20. You do realise that the talk of "ambition" and securing an England place is usually an excuse for seeking more £££. Not saying this is the case for JWP, but if it is he might need to find another route to camouflage his desire to leave. He probably can't use the 'wife couldn't settle' routine is she too is a local.
  21. He wasn't to my knowledge being pursued by Roma.
  22. Not as much as the 2007 summer of F5 (was it?) to refresh the latest Paul Allen takeover news ...
  23. Very interesting post, thanks.
  24. You weren't on here over the summer of 2003, - 2004 or whenever it was then.
  25. When I first started watching Saints, late60's, the player who already had a 'legacy' with Saints fans was Mike Summerbee. Never forget seeing Man City at THe Dell for the first time, game going on and fairly uneventful until Summerbee gets the ball and the crowd just burst into a spontaneous booing and abuse. A few years later, and he passed the baton to another City player, Rodney Marsh. I think that reached its peak when he played for Fulham with Best and Moore.
