Matsuki is an interesting one. He brings something when he’s involved, but hasn’t really shown or nailed his position. I’m not sure it’s as a wide player although he has performed there,second striker (bit too hipster phrase for me - whatever that is), or midfield.

If you’re talking of Millwall strikers, Coburn looked pretty useful, and might have displaced Ivanovic towards the end of the season. Reading about them reports say Millwall paid £2.8m and £5m. Goes to show there is some quality available in some markets. But not £5m+ on Damion Downs.

Being booted out of the play off final after allegations of spying, probably wasn’t up there in the risks to guard against. I don’t fault the club in this. They couldn’t have foreseen things developing as they did, and before the play off final the club wouldn’t have known which league they’d be playing in next season to pitch the contract offer. Perhaps as someone said, the drafting of the contract term is at fault from three years ago.
