Probably going against today’s tide of thought here but I thought Dan Neil would have been a good addition and business (especially if we sell Charles for upwards of £25m). From what I’d read and his promotion experience I can’t join the “well he wasn’t good enough …” , “we didn’t really want him…” pile on. That’s not to say we can’t do better, although it will cost more. The Mulligan of Hibs rumour might now resurface, although we don’t seem to have been active recruiting in Scotland for years. Or perhaps Spors/Tonda will know a Bundesliga 2 gem to come in.

In another report I saw this morning it suggested he was leaning towards Man Utd. Article suggested Man Utd would look to offer WHU a couple of players in exchange. That might bugger up the calculation of our %

As long as there is state funded legal aid they’ll be a whole appeals industry to stretch things out.

Far too much common sense for that to catch on.

With Wimbledon upon us I’d expect this thread to have a few ‘bumps’ again. Many years ago on the old Saints Forever I think the Wimbledon totty used to have a thread of its own in which Sharapova and Hantuchova featured prominently. Perhaps John Inverdale was right and hit on something that they’re not “lookers” any more.

Wondered the same. Talking to a Stoke fan last season and joking about the £8m they were going to pay for Bazunu. The comment was that he assured me they wouldn’t be giving us that for Bazunu adding Stoke wouldn’t have tgat to spend in total !

Any idea what the club earn from concerts, and the other add ons ?

Shame Germany went out. They might have raised their game next round to beat the French. Can’t see Paraguay doing that. French look the outstanding team at the minute which is annoying as they are currently in the ‘Anyone but ..’ pole position for me. A not too exclusive list of former members include Argentina, Germany, and Andy Murray.

Wearing next season’s shirt was quite a common feature in the early 90’s, seem to recall a few clubs doing it. On a different point, anyone any idea when this new shirt (and aways) will officially be announced? Need something else to moan about.
-
Thought he scored in Tonda’s first match at QPR, though not sure if he started or came on as a sub. Appearances after that were limited, but seem to recall he was injured for part of that time.

Not watching. No idea what he said. But I agree with you.
-
Disagree. I think he has excellent close ball control and is a good crosser of the ball. With a decent and proper CF for a full season I reckon he’ll provide a good supply (but not if playing midgets like AA or Archer). Can’t put up too much of a defence on his shooting which has been wayward at times. Get one and his confidence will come back. As someone else has pointed out he did score a few at WBA. All a matter of opinion of course.

Putting that in a bit of context then, Middlesbrough have sold their star man, local hero, and best player, for approximately half a Dibling.

How is it England end up playing Congo ? Last week we were due to play Senegal who at the time were 7th in the 3rd Place table. That place is now Paraguay, Congo are top.

Leeds in the market for a new CB as well perhaps. Wonder where they might find one. Nathan Wood well worth £20m plus from them surely (as part of the compromise on the Charles deal! )

Don’t panic. Hendo’s coming on.

Matterface talking out of his arse about Bellingham, big player who always rises to occasion when needed type of bollocks. Oh for the days of David Coleman who wasn’t constant chatter, a silence letting you watch the action on the pitch for yourself and would then announce “ 1-0 , he doesn’t miss those “* * even if he had for the previous seventy minutes

Panel to include Clough, Big Jack, Lawrie and Channon. Big personalities with opinions worth listening to.

Did you expect anything else ?

To play where ? I think the Piroe ship may have sailed.

About a year before I think, there had also been a bit of uproar over a last game of the season between Coventry and Bristol City ending 2-2. They had kicked off 15 minutes after Sunderland who were also in the relegation mix, and by the end of the Sunderland match knew a point each would keep them up. Report said game effectively fizzled out at that stage with neither looking to go for it. Allegations from Sunderland that Coventry put KO back deliberately, although they said due to crowd congestion etc. Chairman of Coventry at the time was Jimmy Hill. Talking to a Sunderland fan about 5 years ago and he said the bitterness to Hill remained until his death. Of course the Coventry v Bristol City match wasn’t subject to the scrutiny that mass tv coverage and the internet brings. Sunderland unlike another club up that way just raised a complaint but got on with life.

It probably prepared you for watching a Russell Martin side later in life.

But will they have to wait until next Friday for the owner to ratify it ? Recall the statement you’re referring to but more recently read that the player himself didn’t think he was “ready” for the physicality of playing in England. Definitely confine this to the archives with Oliver Bierhoff and a host of others.

Brings Lawrie’s “lead violinists and road sweepers” to mind. City probably have a squad of lead violinists so need someone to do the donkey work. From the little I’ve seen of Anderson though I think you’re doing him a disservice (although agree it seems a ludicrous sum to pay for him)

Yes, remember it.It was gamesmanship, collusion and cheating of the highest order. It may have been 1978 but it’s never too late for a retrospective ban according to Gibbo. Northern Echo journalist Joe Cuntface is leading a campaign for Tonda to be personally held responsible and served with a ban on behalf of Germany. This is despite it being 48 years ago involving a different country (West Germany) and years before he was born. ‘Factless Allan’ is the other name on the petition.
