Mauricio Pochettino staying as Southampton manager - Official
Badger replied to Ashley Grute's topic in The Saints
Question the Cortese "influence" mentioned though. I doubt he's as big an influence there as he'd like to think he is. -
..been the case for ages.
-
And when he was here, he seldom looked the answer. A single moment of sublime ability v Man City, but for the rest of it he simply didn't seem to give a sh!t and was thinking of exiting.

Season finished at Sunderland mid February.

But its not just any microphone, its OUR SFC microphone. Its symbolic of MP saving our season from tumbling off the table. In a "blessed are the cheesemakers" sort of way.

No, please no....

One of the matches was v Turkey (not Egypt as I suggested earlier - knew it was somewhere down that region !) but it was 1984 , and involved Shilton, Wright and Williams (not Wallace) so some things still register ! http://www.11v11.com/matches/turkey-v-england-14-november-1984-238823/ [video=youtube;Xn9I28-_g_4] Another match with three Saints might have been Armstongs debut v France in Paris.
-
..well, not for them it isn't
-
Were four of Shilton, Wright, Armstong, Williams,or Danny Wallace ever in the same squad at any stage ? Seem to recall Shilton, Wallace and Williams playing a friendly against Egypt once. Can't recall if Wright was involved. c 1984.

Gecko was another one for some excellent shirt and badge designs, always better than the eventual effort churned out.

I think it was done on the 2013/14 kit speculation thread if you care to research it.

As well as a Liverpool supporter, Saints supporter...

Like many things at the moment, it will largely depend on who is in the chair to make the final selections on targets etc. One of the most promising links - albeit a tenuous one - on here, with the youtube clip was Lucas Ocampos , how realistic I've no idea (but we all thought Gaston and Osvaldo were unlikely). Perhaps MP could persuade him. If MP were to leave however, we might not see the same appetite for South Americans. With the change at the top though I expect we'll be less focussed on Serie A this year.

Agree with the fist sentiment. I hope it is Ralph Krueger's first task, to secure the management team to stay, (then convince the players !).

Another eastern European country that would welcome taxpayers from UK, & Germany to fund their redevelopment for them no doubt.
-
Me neither, despite Rupert's (embarrassing) enforced press conference, in which they both declared not to have a problem working together. My lasting memory of that was a final question posed by some mischievous bint from the media , "do you call him Sir Clive, Harry ?" "do wot ?", to which she repeated the question. "be' ave " said 'arry storming off.
-
Don't know, but I suspect this might have been the final straw ? Yes, accept your point that the Juventus deal is by no means 'done'.
-
Probably more of a negative impact had he stayed.
-
Absolutely. I'm not a great fan of NC, but his appointments all worked. Many a board, or CEO with £ at their disposal have made poor choices. Of course, part of the problem might have been the raw ambition that he expected KL to fund, without KL's approval or a willingness to share the plans with her/the trust along the way. My last comment re selection of a manager if/when needed is whether KL/her advisers have the midas touch in the selection that NC appears to have had. Perhaps Ralph Kruger is an old drinking buddy of Jurgen Klopp , but lets not bank on it.

Agreed.

When he arrived someone posted a comment from a Spanish friend with a knowledge of Premier League and La Liga saying he was the 'Spanish equivalent of Steve Bruce'. His style of football is better, and we still harbour high hopes that he will develop into an exceptional manager with us. Whether he can depends largely on the relationship with KL , and her vision, not to mention the crucial CEO appointment. As for the original question - I want MP to stay and live up to our hopes, but don't think he will . He stayed loyal to Espanyol when he could have left, and was later sacked. Lesson probably learnt. He will want to quit whilst he's at his 'highest stock' , and if this season goes down the pan he'll become more like 'El 'Arry ' and none of it will be his fault etc, due to background changes etc etc, perhaps he's perfecting the interview out of the Range Rover window technique as well. Big worry for me is whether KL and her new CEO are as successful in attracting the right man for the job if needed. Credit Cortese where it is due this is an area he excelled at.

Poor result. No surprise to read Yoshida being blamed for a goal - he's another liability, his only saving grace is that he's considered marginally better than Hoiveld. No surprise we lost today though. Reminds me of the old cliché "well, we can now forget about the league, and concentrate on the c.... " , Curling ?
-
MP stated in an interview this was not going to happen. Although this may have been 'not this window'.

Poor bloke, had a toothache. But it always looks like a living enactment of a 'Biffa Bacon' sketch to me.
