So finishing above Man U is more important than silverware?
Badger replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
as opposed to today's result which just drains fans - and possibly players - interest and enthusiasm. -
It is . And yet winning the JPT will in later life probably be more memorable for more people. "What did you do the year we finished eighth Grandad ?" I hear them asking in decades to come.

We are safe ffs. As FF points out, 1 FA Cup in 128 years. Something worth addressing. Seems perverse and ill founded logic to me, not to want to win the greatest domestic cup competition going, especially for a young manager to enhance his CV. -
...and on Cup Final day ? especially if we see Everton, Swansea or someone win it.

Ditto (to the nth degree). -

A manager and people who have fallen into the ambition ( hazy fantasy) talked of to the press by NC. -
Adam's not bothered about not making cup finals, and winning medals with Saints then ?

I'd like to agree with you in many ways but today does detract from it in my eyes. This was a golden opportunity to progress, possibly a Wembley appearance, even a trophy at the end of it. To disregard it in such fashion is appalling. Nothing builds success more than momentum built on success. The conundrum is really, yes we want to keep him, keep the team intact, but for what ? Realistically we want top half finishes, and cup runs, cup trophies. But we had the opportunity this year and threw it away. The style of football - 1st XI permitting in the league- is far better under MP than in 2003 , but WGS managed 8th place and a Cup Final.
-
Although a rather hollow one perhaps.
-
That's the next three months mapped out now though isn't it ? A point lost on the decision maker today, is that a cup bring, although it can be a distraction builds momentum, excitement and a buzz around the club which can be taken into league matches. Gates increase etc etc. I think many remembering 1984 will agree that the league, even though we finished as runners up, was a little hollow after the semi-final defeat.

Goal is here to dissect. It does look a rather feeble pass from the back that sets it all in motion, think it is Yoshida., and a half hearted tackle from Wanyama that gives him a chance to hit it. Good strike, but clearly needlessly gifted to them and then preventable: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvY7qCNEw90 Yes, Yoshida has improved etc but he remains a mistake a game player. Even last Saturday he slipped on his arse at one point in the second half, but nothing came of it. Today's was more costly.
-
are you permitted to ?
-
where is that quote from ?
-
Yep, season over. Apart from the farewell party for some of our better players of course who'd like to win a trophy occasionally.
-
There's a man who values the cup competitions then.
-
No I don't, but why was he on the bench ? If he's on the bench then you have to assume he might be called on at some stage. Possibly after a couple of minutes.
-
Sh!t the bed, better start losing a few games then we wouldn't want to be in danger of finishing 7th then in that case.
-
remember the "taxi for Guly " thread ? L1 . Perhaps it was a bit premature.
-
Well, 1976 is becoming a far more distant and feint memory. Does that fit your conclusion ?
-
I heard a radio summariser after about 10 minutes of the match - Scots bloke on 5live - saying that Hoiveld seemed all at sea, and that he did not seem to have an understanding with his CB partner, Yoshida. That was after 10 minutes. All of which was obvious to everyone bar MP it seems.
-
Fonte was on the bench, and might have possibly been called upon to play 80 minutes if Hoiveld had pulled up lame at the first fence. Perhaps a one legged Fonte might have been a better option than combining JH (own goal) and Yoshida. Wanyama , is he match fit ? I can understand leaving either JC or MS out but not both.
-
on days like this you wonder don't you ? How much do you & I spend watching this, and the Cup remains our only real prospect of silverware. Frittered away.
-
Perhaps some bastard should have told him.
-
KD, Hoiveld, (with Yoshida alongside him) , No JC/Morgan, & Guly starting suggests otherwise.

The best management try and win trophies. I think I'll sleep on it before making any judgement over this: ...but I know how you're feeling.
