Good point. He did a fucking outstanding job without money and a bloody good one with it. History is littered with examples of clubs who’ve had backing and not achieved promotion or stability in the top flight. Apart from about 10 clubs, one poor season will lead to relegation and that is what happened. I don’t want him as manager but respect his achievements. Achievements which rank far higher than anything Nigel Adkins did with us. I have some suspicion that he maybe a one shot wonder and won’t be able to replicate his success elsewhere. But that doesn’t detract from what he did do, calling him a failed manager is just pathetic and ignorant.

I thought it was pretty poor to be honest. I read a lot of biographies/auto biographies and this one wasn’t great, just a list of “this happened”, then “that happened”, without any opinions or context. Too nice to everyone, bar Cortese, and even then it wasn’t particularly hard hitting. Maybe the audio one would have been better but I didn’t think it was particularly well written. Just an opinion, doesn’t deflect from my opinion of his career in anyway shape or form, just a shame as I thought it would be better.

Are you serious? SAF didn’t have multiple years in the premier league because they were all with Manchester United?

What’s “kick it out”?

Why don’t we get Nigel Adkins in as well. Having Nigel, Eddie Howe & Ralph as joint managers would be a dream set up. Shame their egos are too big to contemplate it. Fucking big heads…

I bow to your greater experience.

Ashley was a retail genius. Genuinely innovative thinker that changed preconceived industry group think in many areas. If you want a self sustained club,I’d have him over Gao everyday of the week.

Do you live in the Greater London area?

cUnacceptable inconsistency and appalling standard of referees

Fucking hell, my mum could referee that one. Token appointments in a meaningless game. Absolutely zero pressure and they’ll not be one decision that could change the course of the game. -
Is Harriet Harmon a gammon? She’s probably the highest profile person calling for her sacking

The England manager doesn’t think he is, unless someone else is injured. Ive watched a lot more players than you, and he’s average. There’s nothing wrong with being average, a solid professional, but that’s all he is and all he’ll ever be. I guess I’ve got higher standards than you.

Interesting Q&A about VAR from ESPN. This bit was a surprise to me in light of Sat game. Looks like the screen is not used for the ref to decide, it’s for him to confirm he’s made a mistake. Why doesn't the referee use the monitor more often? One of the regular comments from managers and pundits is that the referee should "go and have another look" at the monitor to check his decision. But this is not what the monitor is for. It is only used when the referee has made a "clear and obvious" error, ergo the VAR has told him the decision is wrong and referee uses the monitor to confirm the decision will be changed. The monitor quite simply isn't for the referee to check his decision, it's to change it. -
He’s our very own Mark Noble, good club man, solid pro, but not good enough for England. The fact there’s a debate whether he’s our best player, shows how fucking poor we are. He’s got to be the worst “best” player I’ve seen us field in the top flight, by a country mile (45 years and counting)

I remain convinced the only way to change this is to make being VAR a separate job role. Linos don’t ref one week and run the line the next. I’d get your Graham Polls, Clattenbergs etc, blokes too old to run round pitch and stick them in to VAR. -
I thought the Euros had sorted this ridiculous argument, and finally shut up the forum “experts” that bang on about Ward-Noble being better than what England had. Had Southgate left Philips out of this squad for him, 99.9% of supporters, plus all the media would think he’d gone nuts. It’s only a few freaks on here that think otherwise. As Arsene Wenger once said “everyone thinks they’ve got the prettiest wife”, well Prowse is a bit of a minger & Phillips far fitter.

You’d be calling for a Tory Health Secretary to be sacked if there’s people laying in corridors or still in ambulances because we’ve run out of beds this winter. That person can’t really manage micro manage capacity, but will still be held accountable. The same applies here, the Met is a shit storm and somebody should be accountable. GM might want her sacked because she prefers other chicks, but you want her to remain in post for the same reason. All this “I don’t know if she’s good at her job” defence, won’t be afforded to Tories. Only people that most Tories want sacked.

A mate of mine runs a large decorating business that had a lot of Eastern European’s working for him as well as some English guys and a couple of sweaties. He paid them roughly £150 a day and they worked all the hours god sent. A mixture of Covid & Brexit meant a lot went home and don’t look like coming back. The remaining blokes are now getting over £200 a day and being poached by other firms, and he’s had to enter a bidding war to get more blokes to come onboard. He reckons by the end of the year he’ll have to pay at least £250 a day just to fulfil his current work schedule. Is that good or bad? I guess Brexiters will say good (the workers earn more money), Remainers will say bad (he could go bust or have to delay completion of some work). I can see both sides of the argument , so I guess it just shows that it’s not as black and white as picking winners and losers.

Are all opinions on Ralph moot because GAO won’t sack him, what about Boris, are they moot as well. Surely people’s opinions aren’t moot if it builds momentum towards her sacking. I’m not saying GM’s opinion will make a blind bit of difference either way, but surely there’s a legitimate debate to be had without resorting to “he only wants her sacked because she’s a Les”.
-
When people talk or write about the top 6, people understand what it means. You’re just providing another example of twisting things to portray Ralph in a better light. If we somehow manage to win away at Arsenal I’m sure your tune will change. My point still stands, West Ham, Wolves & Newcastle were there for the taking, on those particular days and we ended up with 2 fucking points.
-
Does Harriet Harmen want her out because she’s a chick & Lesbian?
-
When people talk about the top 6 they don’t mean West Ham, anymore than they meant us when we finished in it. As you’re clearly pedantic, I’ll rephrase. The biggest 6 clubs in the country.
