  1. Wouldn't it be lovely to see a return to our days of regular 3-1 wins?
  2. Perhaps there are different people involved with different opinions. Perhaps the majority don't care about the word and find it inoffensive, but some people do care about it and have bad associations and hate to hear it shouted. Perhaps some would call them over-sensitive, others would understand that you'd need more insight into their reasons for being uncomfortable with it. There isn't a clear right and wrong here, but I don't have the OPs trouble understanding the paradox of some supporters embracing it and others disliking it. Also, there are clear reasons why sometimes it's ok for an "insider" to use words others consider offensive, that outsiders can't get away with. In the pub I might call a good mate, or my brother a ****, if he said something stupid. he wouldn't be offended and I wouldn't have crossed any line. if the bloke at the next table walked over and called him a ****, that wouldn't be on at all. We should all be able to see that clearly from the world of the football fan too. Saints are a bit crap. We all know this. we've all been agreeing about it on here for years and we argue about most things, but we can all admit that. yet if somebody supporting another club (especially pompey) said it to you, you'd probably get a bit defensive.
  3. Disappointing. Very misleading thread title.
  4. That all sounds fair enough to me.
  5. Yep, too much respect is given to choices of faith and people believe the world should bend around them, when clearly it should be the other way around. Sometimes your religious belief might close certain choices for you. Following a religious code means making sacrifices. I think most sensible people can see this, including religious people.
  6. Shouldn't you be making Turkish's tea for him about this time?
  7. Well, you can fly into the main airport at Gardemoen with SAS (Heathrow) or Norwegian (Gatwick) with Norwegian being cheaper usually. Then get the bus or train into the city. There are two trains, one super fast and one normal, with a fair price difference. You can also fly from Stansted to "Oslo Torp" with Ryanair, but they are really stretching the definition of Oslo with that. It's really in a town called Sandefjord, which you can check on Google maps. It's quite a journey from the city. Oslo is a VERY expensive city to go out in. I lived there for four years and never really went clubbing, it was expensive enough to drink in the pubs all night. In the city centre I'd guess you're looking at about 6 or 7 quid a pint, whatever you do, don't offer to buy a round, most Norwegians don't. They also quite often have a "vorspiel" where they go and drink at someone's home before they go out, cheaper. so see if that's happening. City centre hotels are also expensive, so try to find out if she knows anyone who can let you stay over. "Funds are tight" isn't a very promising phrase when discussing going out drinking over here.
  8. Anders Svensson He was good and did well for us, but I always felt like he was about to become amazing and he never quite did. You always felt that if he could just get himself a little more time on the ball he could do incredible things and you could almost build a team around him, but he was only ever "quite good" or disappointing. Nice that he found his place to stand out back in Sweden though.
  9. I thought our defence was at its worst with Boruc in goal. As far as I've seen, with Davis in goal we were playing ok, but he wasn't up to it, with Boruc we were hopeless, with Gazza, we've come closest to winning (and have). We don't have the time to settle in a keeper so out of form. Gazza my not have the same potential but is closer to the top of his game and playing better now.
  10. Zing! On a thread you've been made to look a bit of a cock with some weak comebacks, that must've been the weakest yet. Keep going, you've given quite a few of us something to laugh about so far. Remember, you must keep replying, this "mongboard" is your life these days. Your post-count is rising as quickly as your credibility is falling.
  11. Current directors: Ms Nicola Cortese
  12. Yes, Obama won the most votes, I think the last president to win despite not getting the most votes was George Dubya in his first election. It's quite funny trying to explain First Past the Post to people living in countries with PR. They just keep asking "So all of those millions of votes count for absolutely NOTHING? So many people don't get represented at all?". I don't mind FPTP though, PR actually brings about enough of its own problems.

    Keepers

Haven't seen a thread after last night's match, but I thought Gazza still seemed to be performing pretty well over-all. He seemed more assured than Davis and Boruc still, despite who may be potentially better. He stood no chance with the goals, the first was coming straight at him until the deflection and the second couldn't be blamed on him. Boruc has still to find his form and I don't feel we have "settling in time" available, Davis simply wasn't good enough when he played and losing his place won't have made him any more assured. What does everyone think and why?
  14. Our support was amazing last night. Despite being away on a Monday night and a dismal performance, they could be heard getting behind the team and being positive all night. I heard far more saints chanting on the telly than for WBA. You'd imagine that would really lift the team and spur them on...
  15. Everyone's criticising now, but a quick three goals by saints and you'd all change your tunes.
  16. Lambert ****s up, Fox saves it. Who'd've guessed?
  17. Don't really understand why I see so many opinion poll results. They don't need a majority of votes from the population to win, just the colleges. Obama could lose massively in most states, but win narrowly in a few like California, Florida, New York etc and romp home. Just like in the UK, the number of individual votes doesn't mean a lot.
  18. Silly to say people who have a second team know nothing about football. If I didn't watch my local team, Brann, then I wouldn't get to any matches, surely then I'd know far less. I don't have the same passion for Brann as I do for saints, but I support them as my local team without any detriment to my supporting saints. People who like football will want to watch football and if you see another team regularly, of course you become interested in them. But if anyone asks me who I support I say saints and wouldn't even think to mention Brann.
  19. If we survive this season, I don't think it'll be the January window that does it. It needs to be an improvement in discipline and tactics. We rarely seem to get what we're hoping for in the window and I feel like we often finish it disappointed and with comments about how it's a rubbish time to buy players anyway. I think to get any really good players, players who'd settle in quickly and make a real difference, we'd have to give in to silly demands and if we refused what they wanted in the summer, why would we give in to worse in January? Also, in January, we were a successful team on the verge of moving into the big time, full of potential, now we are struggling relegation favourites, will we attract better players than we could then? Like others have said, I'll just be happy that there probably won't be an exodus from our squad. I predict that we'll probably get a new LB, who we will end up uncertain of whether they're better than Fox, maybe one other player that we pay over the odds for.
  20. Good to hear you're finding a little bit of time away from this board every day, Chris, or is The Kraken your wife? If not, watch out there, I think she likes you a bit too much.
  21. Sorry, somebody said you were Chris Finch, I must've misunderstood. He's definitely part of a failing process, but by your rationale he would be equally responsible for not coaching our defence properly as that's on the list too, or for the kits being right or the sports science. Like I said in my original post, he may be the root of the mistake, all too often in business it's people at his level that avoid blame while others below them get sacked too, but you haven't given enough reason to be as emphatic as you are. You seem to be spending more and more time on here, pretty much dominating every thread these days, hope your home and work life aren't suffering. Don't forget it's just a mong/spazzboard.
  22. That doesn't really correspond with anything I wrote, Chris.
  23. It's not quite what you say really. This means that he is responsible for those departments. So the head of recruitment would report to him, as would the person who deals with coaching (Adkins I'd assume), the person who deals with medicine and sports science etc, he lists quite a few responsibilities and for most of them, you'd assume he doesn't actually do it all himself, why assume he takes the only active hand in recruitment when you wouldn't with the others. If they are likely to be delegated to experts, why do you decide he doesn't delegate recruitment and scouting? Also, he is just the next link in the management chain, he is then one of three who report to Cortese who has responsibility for all of those areas plus those of the other two directors. It may well be that he is to blame, but your reasons for thinking so here are weak. I'm not saying you're wrong on this, just that you need a better reason for announcing it so emphatically.
  24. Surprised so many people would play Davis, surely if there's one player who needs more game time it's Boruc. He needs to get properly match fit and find his form again.
