  1. I always feel as if, when a player goes out on loan, they somehow start slipping away and will one day end up on the scrapheap, but I know this isn't always true. So which players have we sent out on loan over the years and which ones then went on to play regular first team football for us? Also, which players did the opposite and just hung around the edges of the team, never going on loan and eventually breaking through? Kenwyne Jones wasn't getting into our team, then scored for fun on loan and came back to be an important player for us and command a hefty fee. Chris Baird went out on loan a couple of times and also became a regular first teamer. There must be loads more, who else?
  2. I can't see a single post where he's recommended it. I can't see a single post where he's said he thinks the stadium should be expanded at all. As far as I can see he hasn't said that we should build a 58k stadium and he hasn't said we should slash prices. like everyone else he's struggling to see why there would be plans to build such a thing and has searched for the only possible way it could be filled. I don't think anybody so far on this thread has said we should build such a big stadium. It's a consensus of agreement, but this is SWF and people have to argue about something, so FC has suggested the only feasible way he can think of that such a stadium could be filled and most other posters have decided to interpret this as him saying this should happen. That's how it seems to me anyhow.
  3. At least this thread puts to bed the myth that we have loads of fans who think we should be making a large expansion to the stadium. It's pretty clear that just about everybody agrees that only a smaller expansion, if any, will be needed. Thanks to the OP by the way, I had no idea this was being said on stadium tours and it does indeed seem ridiculous for a fairly unfashionable club like saints.
  4. I'm bound to be wrong with somebody pulling out a list of stats proving so, but sending promising players out on loan doesn't often seem to work out well for us does it? Loads of them go out and never make it afterwards and end up hardly playing while on loan. Rare successes I can think of are Kenwyne Jones and Lallana. Who else came good after being on loan? Oh, forgot Puncheon, but for him it wasn't really about gaining experience.
  5. A friend just showed me a Twiiter link to Wigan fans complaining about saints fans fighting and women and kids getting hurt on the bridge. Know absolutely nothing else about it. Apparently a woman holding a child was punched in the face.
  6. nutshell Anyone who uses it automatically qualifies himself as a ****.
  7. It's a maturity thing. I was probably the same in my twenties. Younger people like TDD etc always feel they have to know. There's no room for saying "I'm not sure but I think..." or even using the word maybe. It has to be a statement and it has to be definite. You sort of grow out of that after a few years, because you realise it doesn't make you sound like the smartest person in the room. Of course I may be wrong about all this...
  8. It's all about the kneejerk.
  9. I was Norwaysaint on TUI for a couple of years before coming over to saintsforever in around 2000. I remember even when I first joined noticing people saying that it wasn't as good as it used to be and that the best posters had stopped posting, so nothing's changed there. I also remember Banter Central or whatever it was called being full of banal crappy threads, so that's the same too. Back then posting was dominated by a few people who posted all day on every thread, now we have the same in Delldays, Hypochondriac, Turkish and Tokyo. Nothing much ever changes. I think the only noticeable things really did go downhill was just after the 5 pound thing came in and for a few weeks only a handful of people paid. That made for some pretty awful threads. The five pound thing was a great move. Three posts is just about right.
  10. On a thread full of awful, unrealistic suggestions, surely this excellent suggestion stands out as by far the best. Easy to sing, simple words, fits properly.
  11. I'm okay with us not signing anyone. We had one major target we thought would improve the team, we didn't get him and then we didn't just try to find a second rate alternative. We should only be looking for players to improve the team, not more squad members. Surprised people are talking about midfielders. Our first choice midfield pairing is excellent. Our first choice back-ups, Davis and JWP, are just right, one experienced, the other promising, both good enough for back up. We even have decent further options behind them.
  12. People can't compare it to when we last played Wigan. This time we're playing them off the back of a really gutsy performance against one of the Manchester sides where we were actually ahead but ended up being beaten by just one goal.
  13. Talking of the KKK, this is still one of the funniest clips I have ever seen: I didn't think Django Unchained was awful, but I agree that it wasn't as ground-breaking as QT seems to think it is and I don't think QT is as good as he thinks he is either. He burst onto the scene with some great ideas that made great films; Reservoir Dog, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and True Romance (His script), but somewhere halfway through Kill Bill i got the feeling he was disappearing up his own arse and thought that everything he did was genius. He needs somebody to come in and work on his films with him, pointing out where to rein it in and what to edit out. He could lose a large part of many of his films and they would only be improved. Also, his once famous dialogue has started to just sound odd and out of place. I didn't mind the violence, because it's a bit of an homage to a certain type of film that embraced that kind of stuff, it was just too long and needed a good bit of editing.
  14. Yes! What a great quiz that was, hope you had fun everyone!
  15. With former Saint Uwe Rosler now managing in England after a decent managerial record in Norway, I thought I'd see who can answer this one. Which two players, who spent most of their careers at Saints, later went on to manage Norwegian teams to the league title? One of them was also released from all three appointments he had in Norway and replaced with the same person each time.
  16. I might be misreading what you mean, it sounds like you think he didn't make the first team, but Lloyd James did make it into the first team and was a first team regular for a couple of years. I think he was one of the first out of the door after the takeover though, which always seemed like a shame for him after he put in a good shift during our lowest times. That's football though.
  17. Oh yeah and never get into the thing some people have of thinking about when you'll be able to "get back to normal", that's all gone now, start learning how to enjoy a completely new life. There's definitely more there to enjoy. The first thing you have to learn is that being a petty arse-hole will destroy your relationship pretty fast. It doesn't matter whose "turn" it is, just do everything you can and respect that your partner is too. I reckon my marriage was saved by a pact to agree never to hold any grudges about anything we said to each other when we were woken up during the night. It can get a bit nasty when you haven't slept much in three weeks and you have to go to work in two hours. Everything had to be forgotten by morning.
  18. Congratulations Bananaman and Turkish, I've got girls of 5 and 7. The odd thing is how different your kids turn out to each other. I know we should expect it, I'm nothing like my brother or sister, but it still surprises you. The best advice is not to pay too much attention to anyone else's expert parenting advice. Do what feels right for you and your kid. What worked for them and their kid has very little bearing on the matter. My daughters showed today that they are both already far better skiers than me. They take the **** out of my Norwegian too.
  19. Tiles with under floor heating. That's what we've got in both our bathrooms and it's lovely.Carpet seems a poor choice for a bathroom, but cold tiles wouldn't be at all nice.
  20. Taking the question as it was asked, not about the value generally of our players, but what we would expect to pay for them if they played for, say Norwich or Sunderland, and they had performed exactly as they have now (Lambert 10 goals, Schneiderlin ever present, etc) I'd say Lambert: £5m, We'd be buying somebody to score goals this and hopefully next season, that they probably didn't want to sell and we'd be lucky to get much for in two years. 4m if they were happier to sell him. Realistically, what would we expect to pay for Holt, as he was last season, if we lost Ricky? I don't mean Holt's as good as RL, but I think that's the sort of player we're talking about. Schneiderlin: £10m sounds about right, no other team would want to sell their most influential midfielder and it's a valuable position. He might be slightly lower because he hasn't had a whole PL season and isn't an international. Puncheon: Fast winger with a bit of creativity, although sometimes lacks the end product he will score a few. Would lose a bit of value due to history of bad attitude. I'd say about £5-6m, but you never know, many would've been happy to release him last summer.
  21. It might happen, but this season we have brought in Clyne, Maya, Forren and made Shaw first choice. That's an entire new back four. I doubt it's seen as an urgent area for recruitment, unless the three new signings, which most seem to believe were made by Cortese/Reed, are seen as not good enough, or were brought in to be second choice. I'd be happy for an even better option, but which "Cortese signing" would either he or Pocchetino be replacing already?
  22. Oh now you've done it. In a couple of months that internet addicted tit will be constantly commenting about "Not so long ago everybody on here was saying we were bigger than Spurs, but I was shouted down about it."
  23. If the players are genuinely happy with the change then that has to be the most important thing. We liked Adkins, but charisma doesn't necessarily mean that he's the best manager. I'd love to really know the players' honest opinions, but we're never going to hear that too publicly. Obviously some people might get to hear something, but information gets so mixed up with bull**** on here that it's hardly surprising nothing is really trusted.
  24. A simple advanced search for Kelvin, searching thread titles, will give you the only two threads ever made referring to "Kelvin for England". One is an ironic title by Adriansfc, where he says he doesn't rate Kelvin very much, but is shocked at who is getting a call up. Not a single post on the thread suggests Kelvin should play for England. The other is from 2008 and is mentioning that Jan Poortvliet thinks Kelvin should get a call up. There are a few more threads about Kelvin, not a single one advocating an international call up, which is odd considering there was a whole "brigade" calling for it. There is a thread on who might get into the England squad after we're promoted to the PL, on this one I mentioned that if there were lots of injuries and he started well in the PL, Kelvin might end up on the bench as third choice. I didn't say I thought he should, but there have been plenty of odd 3rd choice keepers. Nobody else on the thread even thought that would happen. It seems it was all in your imagination, but if you can provide 3 or 4 posts proving me wrong, I'll have to agree with you.
  25. People saying Kelvin might get called up for a place on the bench is far from people calling for him to play for England. It's not even the same as saying he deserves to be in the squad. I understand that was you memory, but this time, like with Guly's contract, you got it wrong. Also, people saying Butland isn't good enough for a call up isn't the same as saying Davis should play for England. I can understand your confusion, but one thing doesn't really add up to the other, does it?
