There's been lots of talk about Forren not being good enough or just not being ready yet, but more interesting to me is what MP's reasons are for sticking with Hooiveld over everyone else. From what I've seen, even when we're playing well, he's the one who sticks out as not really fitting in with our style. He always seems to be a bit of a championship level clogger. There's nothing wrong with having a big lump in defence, but it just goes against the rest of our style. I thought Fonte had been pretty good this season, but now Hooiveld is clearly preferred. As an experienced centre back, MP must either be seeing something in him, or he might just be the type who thinks a team should have one hard bloke in defence to scare opposition strikers a bit more. Can any of you experts explain it to me?

What an interesting summer we are in for...

I have no idea what your motivation is, but he has got a point about your posting hasn't he? You may have some relevant points, but if you lack balance and perspective, how can you expect others to take you seriously? -
What an odd post, you've quoted me, but not said anything relevant to its content. Again, have I said anywhere that Norway is "the country of inclusivity"? Only you have said anything along these lines. I haven't claimed Norway to be a Utopia, only praised the style of the national day. Come along Barry, don't be evasive. Have a little try at answering some of the things I actually said, or are you going to avoid it and revert to name calling again?

Is Saint George's Day our national day now then? I didn't know that, I thought we didn't have one. I don't really care who celebrates which day to be honest. "Sandal wearers" is a bit of a lazy insult though isn't it? Can you explain what it's supposed to mean? Is it the same as leftie tree hugger? Don't you find silly name calling a bit reductive? It's the sort of thing most people do when they're struggling to make their point, although to be honest, I did have trouble making sense of the last half of what you wrote. I asked you to point out where anybody called Norway "the country of inclusivity" earlier by the way, you must have missed it, could you point out where you read it as I'll correct it to say that the Norwegian national day is very inclusive, which as far as I can see is what I wrote. I'd definitely celebrate a British (or English) national day that worked the same way, that'd be great. They don't celebrate the national saint's day over here at all though, I doubt whether most of them know when it is, like many British people don't know when Saint George's Day is, it's a bit of a meaningless thing. I'm almost surprised the government haven't suggested setting up a national day, to build on the spirit seen during the Olympics.

I don't know if that's supposed to be serious or not. I hope it isn't because it's nonsense. Marriage as a monogamous and binding communion dates back well before Christian times to cultures all over the world. Annoyingly, like festivals at Christmas and Easter times, Christians have started to believe that since it is part of their culture, they own it and started it, when they were just continuing something that was already there and adding a few bits of ceremony, but then again, I expect it was a tongue in cheek comment.
-
Is that what I wrote? Just trying to find where it says that. Sorry, what i meant to write was that their national day celebration is very inclusive. Still can't find the bit you're talking about. Can you point it out?

I never remember which day it is. Conversely, I look forward to the Norwegian national day. It's an enormous inclusive celebration, like an enormous national party. Immigrants are welcome and encouraged to take part and pretty much the entire population is out on the street. The main focus is a street carnival parade, which is mainly about the children. Everyone dresses up either in national costume (for whichever country they're from, plenty of kilts or saris on display) or in a suit or dress. I would never have realised a national celebration could be so positive if I hadn't come here. It's nothing to do with saints' days though. I'm still English and British, but I'll happily celebrate the country I live in. My kids look forward to 17th May nearly as much as Christmas. It would be a major achievement if Britain/England could manage a national day, based around inclusivity, celebrating living in the country, making it mainly about the children and not start going on about empire and former glories. I think the Olympics helped people see how good that sort of thing can really make people feel.

How the table would look if only English players goals counted
norwaysaint replied to Super_Saint's topic in The Saints
Not even that, just that our best strikers are English. It could still be the case that Man Utd/Arsenal/Liverpool/Chelsea/City have more English fringe/rotated players and reserves are better than our first choices, it doesn't even show we have more English strikers or that ours are the best choices for England. -
before you knock Richardson and Sharp, just remember the following team is still under contract to saints: Forecast Butterfield Martin Seaborne Dickson Forte Hammond Chaplow de Ridder Barnard Lee This goes to prove that Saints really are no longer a "selling club".

Be fair, he admitted he got that wrong. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?41454-Guly-was-fit&p=1538354#post1538354

Guly 's contract states that he must play at least 15 minutes of every game, although Turkish did admit he got that one wrong after Guly stayed on the bench for a whole match.

It's rather beautiful that in the middle of all that violence, romance like this can flourish.

Do we need to beat them 4-0 or 5-0 to go above them? Anything else would be a huge let down really.

Our girls are two and a half years apart. They annoy each other like nobody else can and are closer friends that anybody else could be. I am very glad we had a second so that whatever happens to us, they'll have each other. The oddest thing is how different they are. I know that sounds sort of obvious, but you sort of expect it to be the same again with the next child, they're still half you and half your wife genetically. Yet somehow, just like you aren't the same as your brothers and sisters, they are utterly different characters. You save a bit on clothes, toys and stuff if they're the same gender. One thing that's very hard is remembering to take as many pictures and films, or get professional pictures or whatever done when the second one comes. You sort of go over the top with the first one, but don't really get around to doing it as much with the next. Make sure you include the elder sibling in looking after the baby from the start, then they will really develop a sense of responsibility. Our eldest is only seven, but I'd trust her to do things properly more than I'd trust myself now. We also had a present for the eldest waiting when she came to the hospital, that was "from her baby sister".

Yes, you're right. You're a very smart guy. I can't believe I actually thought we were paying Jack Stephens £50k a week. It's only lucky you were there to help me realise how foolish I was. Thanks mate.
-
I don't mind about the watches, but I am now concerned we're over-paying Jack Stephens.

Some people take things on the internet incredibly seriously.

Good luck to Portsmouth. I hope that their club finally starts to get back on the right track.

You said that ALL people who are happy she's dead are evil. that's a pretty silly comment and like I said, anybody who actually sees the world in those terms is too naive to be taken seriously. None of the people in your list could actually be called evil. When I was a child growing up hearing one sided news, I might have believed Gerry Adams and the IRA were evil. as I've grown older and read about the history of Northern Ireland and what was done to the Irish population, I've come to see where the hatred and desire to strike out came from. I don't agree with what they did, but I'm now old enough and understand enough to see it's far from "evil". Those people in your list are no more evil than Margaret Thatcher.
-
This sort of comment will always detract from any sense in your argument. It's childish and silly and discounts you as a poster worth listening to on serious subjects. Sorry for anyone's family when they die. Thatcher is a part of this country's history. I didn't like her or her politics when she was alive, but those who disliked her should be aware that she meant something to a lot of people and be sensitive to that. At the same time, those who were fond of her should be aware that she had a very negative effect on a lot of people's lives and they are going to express that at this time too. Just post how you feel about it and stop getting so hung up on everybody else's viewpoint, it will never be the same as yours.

Hypochondriac would rather be in league two than have Cortese at our club. I find that incredible.
-
we could erase our negative goal difference? 7 goals to make up in 6 games. Yes I know, results are all that really count, it's a frivolous speculation thread. I don't think we'll quite manage it, there'll still be a couple of defeats and draws in the run in, so the wins would have to be too big.
-
For what it's worth, I think Adkins got his tactics right for this match. Hasn't helped them much though.

Looks like everybody is in agreement but discussing different sides of it. It's true that this sort of thing happens way too often, it's true that it's disrespectful and underhand. It's the business equivalent of seeing another woman for a while before you leave your wife. The fact that it happens doesn't make it any less immoral and wrong. I'm happy with MP being manager, I'm not proud of how he was appointed.
