People who don't understand when to use the word "myself". This has become shockingly common. Myself is a reflexive pronoun, meaning it is generally used shortly after the word I. I wash myself, I can do it myself etc. So why are there so many morons saying things like "David and myself think that...", "It's just Tom and myself here" and other such pieces of idiocy? Do you think it sound clever? It makes you sound like a ****. The word you're looking for is usually I or me. If you're not sure which one to use, say the same sentence without including the other person, then it becomes obvious. You wouldn't say "Me went to the shops." so don't say "John and me went to the shops."

So a few people don't really like it and most people don't really care. Why the comments about panic, moaning and people getting upset? No real sign of any of that.

I don't really mind all of the unrealistic stuff. It's fewer posters than some seem to think. Most question threads have far more realistic replies than fantasy ones, but there are a few posters who get overly obsessed with the unrealistic posts and decide for some reason they represent "everyone on here", then they spend ages squabbling with two or three posters. As a proportion, the realistic posters probably outnumber the overly-optimistic ones, but are unable to see that and just get hung up on the unrealistic ones. I like that some people let a feeling of optimism and enthusiasm overtake them. It's all part of being a fan and supporting a team. If we didn't hope for the improbable, why would we look forward to matches against the bigger teams? I enjoy coming on here and seeing people full of hope and unrealistic belief, I don't need loads of threads saying the obvious points that we should always expect to lose to most other PL teams or that the players we love are not actually better than the ones at United, Arsenal, Everton or even Swansea. Just let it go, we all know deep down that we support saints and that saints aren't one of the big clubs, but it's nice when people get so into it that they lose a bit of perspective. The world would be pretty dull without people like that and just with dour people stating what realistic expectations are. I should know, I'm one of those dull realists, but I like to see the optimistic stuff too. I'd say that if you let it bother you at all, the problem is yours.

Has there been a better team to support over the last 5 years?
norwaysaint replied to lickierambert's topic in The Saints
It's a good question. I'm not sure I'd agree with people saying United. Five years ago they were the top team in the country and former champions of Europe, expecting to win the premier league again and massively dominant over their local rivals, now they are one of the best teams in the country, former champions of Europe, hoping to win the league again and without the greatest manager in their history. It's not much of a journey. City have had an incredible journey and have stepped out of the shadows to at last be a proper rival to United, won the league in the most thrilling way possible and things are still looking very positive for them. Norwich and Swansea fans have a similar amount to be happy about to us as far as progression goes, Swansea even more really, plus Norwich got the division title where we were runners up, although we got the schadenfreude of seeing our local rivals fall from a dominant position to the foot of the league while our fortunes improved. Then again we had to say goodbye to Markus after such a short time. Overall, I feel like I'd rather be us right now, but I'm sure other fans would rather have their own position. Oops, somehow forgot Chelsea with league, CL, Europa and FA Cup titles in that time. I can see the other bloke's point about a sense of entitlement taking the edge off the pleasure, but I'm not sure they would've realistically hoped for all that. There are probably loads of lower league teams that have had loads to be delighted about too, but I have to confess to being pretty ignorant about most of them. Well we're up there anyway. -
I just hope that if we fail to get any of our targets, we don't panic buy a pointless player and rather give somebody we already have a chance to prove themselves, much better for the team.

That's an odd sentence, your implication there seems to be that homosexuality is not natural, does that mean you believe it's man-made? Are homosexual animals man-made as well? Or are you saying that anything that's different from the norm isn't a product of nature? Nature creates dead-ends in reproduction all the time, it's still nature. What do you think "natural" means Turkish?
-
In the same way that you can call any of the ways in which we all differ from an over-all genetic norm a defect, be it a tendency towards a bad back (normal), having a faster or slower metabolism (normal), having a second toe longer than your big toe (normal) or many other "defects" that separate us from a theoretical norm, but still leave us within the bounds of normal.
-
"Normal" isn't exactly a quantifiable term is it? However, I'd say that homosexuality is a common enough trait that it seems to be within the boundaries I'd accept as normal. Yes, you can say it's not true of most people, so it's not "the norm", but how far do you take that? We can all pick out a trait about ourselves that would exclude us from being normal if you follow that rule. Do we start saying there's something wrong with bald people and society's being too liberal in accepting them? It seems to be some sort of genetic defect doesn't it? Why do we treat them like they're normal? The answer is because they are normal and the fact that they are different in that way really shouldn't be a problem for anybody. If you do have a problem with it, the problem is with you, not with them.

Still gutted that Adam and Joe have stopped. I still listen to the old ones occasionally and my five year old daughter does a pretty good Taffin impression.

Pikeys?

Wow, just wow. This has actually brought a tear to my eye, something I never thought would happen.
-
I reckon that exceeds some pretty stiff competition to become the most moronic post I've seen on here in a long, long time.
-
Wow, I've posted about three times in as many weeks and certainly hit a nerve with Tokyo Saint. Excellent post as usual Bearsy.
-
Are you still talking about a thread about eating habits from a couple of years ago that led to a few pages of discussion? Yeah, that's much duller than just trying to attach yourself to a popular poster without ever actually posting anything funny or creative yourself. Why don't you run along and see if Bearsy's posted something clever you can try to take some of the credit from to make yourself seem interesting.
-
Good post. Before he started trying to attach himself to the excellent and funny Bearsy, I remember Tokyo Saint was a weasel who tried to get other posters banned. He's tried to re-invent himself as an unfunny hanger-on, but some unpleasant true colours are shining through on this thread.

Lidl tried to get into the Norwegian market a few years back and they failed horribly. They had to cut their losses and sell off all of their stores to a Norwegian chain after about two years. I think people just generally didn't trust the unfamiliar stock. I used to get a few things there but haven't missed them since they disappeared. Aldi have never been here to my knowledge. There are really only three chains now that dominate Norway and nobody else stands a chance.

Once again, this is about illegal immigrants. I'm pretty sure illegal immigrants aren't able to get any benefits. Viking Warrior's post is about as relevant as the racism claims.
-
Really? Wow! Wonder which type I am. I'm as lefty tree-hugging liberal as you like, but these vans aren't offensive and for once Alpine was right. They are specifically saying illegal immigrants should return home or face arrest, which is very different to "sending them all back where they belong". There's not even an issue of race involved, an illegal immigrant could be from any racial group. I also agree that it's a waste of time and just an attempt to do something visible to impress voters.

It'll be Wanyama.

Ha! In your face! You were wrong! What a ****! Mr Wrong! Wrongity McWrongerson! Wroooooongo! Wrooooooongooo!

Jamie, you were posting regularly on this thread until it was proven you were talking nonsense. Did you go all shy, or is it that painful to admit you got it wrong?

I thought the red kit was dull and I really didn't like the black one, mainly because of the neck, but then again, I never by replica shirts and during matches I'm watching the play, not how nice the players look, so it makes little difference to me.

I live on one of the islands just outside of Bergen, connected by a tunnel. It's a lovely area for kayaking, although with two small kids, I rarely get out. Just cleaned off mine and my wife's kayaks though and am hoping to use them this summer. I bought a plot of land and built a house by the sea for probably less than most of you paid for your flats, terraces and semis in the south of England. I don't spend much time in bars and restaurants, but I do drink at home, many Norwegians have a vorspiel (foreplay!) before they go out, that's when they meet up and drink at someone's place before the real evening begins. Otherwise we stock up on beer and stuff whenever we can. I have a well stocked beer fridge at home. I'm sure you'll want the bars in the city, which are expensive, but do not make the typical British mistake of walking into the pub with a large group and offering to but a round, it just doesn't work that way unless you are loaded, a round for three or four people is a bit safer. Things that most Norwegians do don't cost much at all. They spend time at a "hytte", a cabin or holiday cottage in the mountains, forest or near the sea. These are usually owned by them, their family, a friend or often, a workplace has one for its employees and it can be booked. A weekend at these might involve loads of daytime activity like skiing, kayaking, canoeing, mountain walking, climbing or whatever, followed by a night of partying and drinking. My family has two and we'll be at one or the other for most of the summer. If you don't have access to these, or want something else, you can quite cheaply join Den Norske Turistforegningen. This is a kind of ramblers association that for a small joining fee gives you the key to hundreds of cabins across the whole country. You can walk across every beautiful part of Norway and stay at them. They take responsibility for marking the paths and maintaining them and you can walk for days across mountains without seeing a car, but still spend the night in a nice cosy cabin. Many of them are stocked with food and the payment system is entirely on trust. Some of them are staffed and there is a shop or restaurant but not many. I used these extensively in my first four years here. Sometimes you get the place to yourself and sometimes other people show up and you share your food and wine/beer or whatever. I've turned up at one after a hard day's skiing and been given reindeer stew and a nice glass of red as soon as I walked in. You meet a lot of great people that way and up in a mountain cabin, everyone is friendly and hospitable. Non-members can use them too, but then the price is higher, although still pretty good. As far as skiing goes, we do plenty of downhill here, but that is expensive, whereas all Norwegians do cross country skiing, which is entirely free and one of the best ways to experience Norway. If you're in Oslo, you can use your normal bus or rail ticket to jump on the "underground" which will actually take you to the top of a mountain at the start of an amazing area called Nordmarken which is a huge forest perfect for walking, skiing and cycling, you bus ticket will also allow you to take a ferry out to any of the small islands in the Oslofjord. When I lived in Oslo, we used to get on the train in the evening up to the top of the mountain, then ski down floodlit paths (nearly all downhill ) and at the end after a few kilometres, hop on another train home. As far as everyday living goes, most Norwegians have a well stocked freezer and stock up when good offers come around. We also have a freezer full of elk and venison from the hunting, which is also free. don't just go out and shoot a deer for your dinner though.

What a load of **** you talk. Here are the facts, about 20% of people thought we'd go up in the first season. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?16984-Where-do-you-expect-Saints-to-finish-this-season At the time of Adkins' appointment: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?15014-Season-prediction-now-we-have-a-manager There was one bloke who seemed pretty certain saints would walk league one in the 2010-11 season, he was called The Delldays: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?24058-Predict-your-Top-3-for-all-4-Englsih-leagues Prediction thread for our promotion season, lots of people with guarded hopes, no mentions of walking the league: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?23682-predictions-for-this-season Show a little humility, Jamie.
