I agree, it isn't set up as a racist group. However, their problem is that, as a far right group, they attract right wing extremists, who very often are racists. This gives them the problem that they are characterised by publicly having a large racist following and this damages any more reasonable intent they may have along with their credibility. it's a shame because there is clearly an important issue to be resolved, but it becomes hard to discuss. I found the bloke in the film to be far more unpleasant and hateful than any Muslims I've met and that would deter me from any sympathy with a group like that. that doesn't mean that I don't see that Islam is having a big struggle with the more extreme side of its membership these days and it was good to see the link from the Spectator further up the page where you could read the comments of more representative Muslims who condemn these people and point out that everything they do is against the Muslim faith.

My name's Brett and I live in Camden, but I post things uncannily similar to what the Delldays posted. You do know that your old user name wasn't banned, don't you? Welcome back, there are many others equally addicted to this place and you shouldn't feel ashamed. I prefer Boruc too. Not necessarily a better shot stopper (hence the stats), but, once he settled, his composure made the whole defence feel more settled, which is a very important part of the keeper's role and means they have fewer shots to stop..

The one that show's Boruc wasn't better than Gazzaniga statistically will surprise a few too. Obviously doesn't tell the whole story though.

I've been avoiding this thread, because I didn't like the way it quickly descended into the usual snidey name calling quite early on. I thought it was pretty distasteful. I've just glanced throught the last page and it seems everybody is up in arms at pap. All I can see on this page is that he's said he doesn't understand how such a gory attack was carried out without spilling any blood on the road, which, although an unusual thing to be thinking about, isn't actually offensive. Can anybody tell me what I missed and what the offensive bit or conspiracy theory thing is that's made everyone so angry? I'm not supporting anyone or offering any argument, just can't be doing with reading what descended into quite a nasty thread quite quickly.

Not entirely sure we can claim to have brough Keegan, Ron Davies, Wright, Killer and Shilton through the ranks can we?

You sign Whittingham, we sign Pochettino....

I think it's a nice gesture that just when the egos at pompey couldn't be at a lower ebb, our fans are sending out a clear message that they are still just as important to us. Three divisions below us and our fans are still thinking about them for large parts of the match while they watch our players compete with the best in the country. Their name is still being sung in the premier league, it's a testament to their success in the last decade. Well done, lads! -
Deppo was a good bloke. I remember when Tokyo threw his toys out of the pram. Deppo laughed at him for being a pompous arse, which upset Tokyo who couldn't handle it and tried to pretend that deppo had mocked the tsunami victims. He hadn't, he'd only mocked Tokyo saint, who was being a pompous arse. Two very different things. Bearsy shouldn't have been banned, neither should a lot of other people.

I agree with most but: 9. Jay Rodriguez – As a striker who's figured heavily this season, he hasn't scored enough goals for the chances he's had, despite the team providing possession and chances that should have made it straight forward for him. If we have the ball in attacking positions as much as we did, whose fault is it we're not scoring if not his? I hope he'll improve, but he's flattered to deceive a bit imo. I think his good run of games has blinded people to a mediocre season overall. 6 I think people wanting to bump up Boruc's rating are forgetting how vulnerable he was in his early games. If he hadn't been such a liability when he came in, we wouldn't have had to experiment with Gazzaniga. Such an experienced keeper shouldn't have been so jittery. Glad he proved himself in the end, but a 7 across the season is about right. The 8 will be for next season.

SAINTS 1-1 Stoke City // Post-Match Reaction
norwaysaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
It seems that the tactics are pretty good. We dominate play, create scoring chances, have loads of possession in their half and don't concede many any more. The problem is that our strikers aren't burying their chances. Lambert, JRod and Lallana have to take responsibility for that. Lambert will probably score fewer and drop deeper as age catches up. I like JRod, but I'm not confident he'll score enough and lallana doesn't score enough from the positions he gets into. Mayuka doesn't seem to be the way forward, so I suppose our attack is where we really need strengthening. -
All over, somehow we ended up giving them a real kicking after being pretty mediocre up until this session. I have no idea what to expect from the Ashes.
-
I agree with all of that. I also thought he was overly criticised for not being as good as his hype. I never understood why that would be a reason to criticise him. He was always a very hard working, committed player, the sort we complain we don't have more of, but was complained about for not being more gifted. I don't think he ever claimed to be anything he wasn't.

You really need to learn not to make such big knee-jerk statements. As far as we know nothing has gone "tits-up". we just know that Cortese's contract hasn't been sorted yet and that MP wants him to stay. It all sounds pretty normal to me and there's a strong chance they'll come to an agreement on his contract. Just hold your fire a bit before you make such enormous statements. It could easily be business as normal pretty soon. -

8 out of 10 Some of those questions, such as the last one, test your vocabulary, rather than you're ability to use grammar correctly. I would say most people could see why the sentence was wrong and could successfully rephrase it, showing excellent grammar, despite not knowing what "misplaced modifier" means. -
JRod will possible get a game, as have many players from outside the top teams in the past, but the problem they have is that less patience is usually shown with them. One of the players who is with United/Liverpool/Arsenal etc but doesn't always play might be seen as a future star who needs nurturing, getting chance after chance to make an impression. If a player like JRod, Clyne or Cork hasn't made a big impact after a game or two, that'll probably be it.

Cup. Last time we won it we were (still) in the second tier next season. It still felt great. I don't remember survival ever being quite so euphoric.

It's getting a little bit silly and tiresome that every time somebody's getting the better of you in a discussion, you feel the need to say that they are taking everything more seriously than you, or they're uppity or emotional. It's not the first time you've done it even on this thread, with no clear sign of anyone being anything of the sort. Either you're over-analysing what people post or it's silly trolling. As somebody who get over involved in just about every difference of opinion on this board, I don't think you're in a position to comment on how involved other people are. You have certainly never managed to let other people's differing opinions pass without some kind of sneering comment or prolonged argument. Like most others, I accept that the club could be in the wrong here, nobody's denied that. it's certainly been silly that Turkish and a few others have gone on about people "defending the club". Most comments he's referring to have done nothing of the sort, they've merely stressed that the situation as we know it doesn't necessarily mean what he has unwaveringly stated that it does (the club caved in without defending itself). That may have happened, but there could be many other reasons already explained at length. Egg and others have not defended the club, they've reacted to the usual forum know-it-alls who, once again, have decided they know exactly what's happened and are unable to accept that the evidence leaves room for several possibilities. Try showing a little humility now and then. I keep seeing comments about it being a pattern, well, I've also often read in the past about how the club refuses to back down and compromise, playing hardball in every deal, so while happily accepting the possibility that your scenario is right, I'll also entertain the possibility that in this case they may have played hardball with Benali and they may have got the result they wanted, that would also fit the pattern. Here's an example of why I think it might not be so simple. When my house was being built for me, one of the contractors did a bad job with something, then charged me for it, he tried to take me to court when I refused to pay and i told him I'd happily defend myself in court. In the end we settled it out of court, I didn't pay him for that work and he came around and fixed what he'd messed up, i actually ended up with some extra work being done free of charge because he'd done work i hadn't asked him (I would've, but I couldn't afford it at the time)to and i refused to pay for it. I suppose the know-it-all brigade would say I caved and didn't defend myself? Only after this agreement did I pay him the money I did owe him for other jobs, when he sent me the correct bill. For the record, I think it was stupid of the club with respect to the other court case and i can't see any good reason for how they behaved, but they don't really seem similar issues to me. I have no particular love for Cortese, I don't think anyone has described him as like-able or charismatic, I don't even necessarily consider it a positive thing if the club did play hardball and get their own way. I just get tired of the posters who think they know everything. People like that are annoying in real life and annoying here. I think i'll make that my last input on this thread before Kraken gets upset about my emotional involvement.
-
See my next post. as I posted, the club may accept a payment is due, but seem to be disputing the claim. As I explained in my first post, if the settlement was far closer to the club's estimate, that would be what you would call "in the club's favour". Again, I have no idea what the actual situation is. What I am pointing out is that others are jumping in saying the club has caved, but that's not what we know from the information made public. If information is later released showing that Benali got what he wanted, fair enough, but otherwise, we can just as well assume that the club paid what they thought was due and no more.
-
Yes, but maybe because they got the deal that was in their favour. Why are so many people assuming that the club is settling in a way that isn't in their favour? they might be doing a very good job of playing hardball and forcing people to give up their court cases and doing deals that the club favours. I have no idea, but I don't understand why Turkish and some others feel they do have all the facts. I can't see where they are available and without them, we just don't know.
-
Well, unlike a few here I wouldn't claim to know what's happened here, although you might just be trolling. However, to say that the club has rolled over at the last moment is a big assumption. it's also an assumption to decide that they have failed to defend themselves. Looking at the original article, I can't see anywhere that the club say there is no case against them, they actually say they will be defending against the claim. There may be an acknowledgement that something is owed, but they would be defending against a wrongful claim from benali. For example, if the club believed that the correct payment should be £30k and Benali was demanding £1.5m. All we know is that they settled out of court. If that settlement was for £100k, I would say that a compromise has been reached that is closer to the club's valuation and is possibly cheaper than paying £30k plus the expense of a court case. In that case it would seem that the club were prepared to defend itself so rigourously that Benali decided to take what he could get. Of course it may be that the club believed they should pay nothing, then paid exactly what benali asked for, but from the information given, I don't see how you can make the statements you are making.

Exactly, a straight forward concept that has been deliberately muddied to discredit it. Political correctness was just a catch all title referring to not discriminating unfairly. People have taken every stupid decision by every administrative fool and even, inexplicably, included health and safety issues as PC in an attempt to make it look like an unreasonable, silly idea. I'd take a good look at the sort of person who would feel the need to discredit "not discriminating unfairly". Many of the things people call "PC gone mad" are actually very non-PC, especially the idea of pandering to alternative religions/cultures while discriminating against Christianity/British culture. That would be one for the non-PC brigade.

Thanks for the responses. It's not a reaction thread after the loss by the way, I missed the last game because of my kid's birthday and I was away when we played Swansea, so most of the times I've seen him, we've been good (and Shaw has played), but he's stuck out like a sore thumb as not really being on the same page as the others. I don't think he's bad, just slightly incongruous with the team. Nice to have a wider view from people who get to the games though.
