  1. I understand the arguments, but I did actually find it frustrating how much it happened from potentially attacking positions on Saturday. There were times we were in a position to put a decent ball in, or run at a player from just outside the box, when instead we started a series of increasingly defensive passes that ended up back at the keeper, then got passed out only to end up giving the ball away far closer to our goal than the whole move had started out.
  2. Both Niemi and Svensson had to wait for quite a while to get their chances after being signed. And if you think it's bad to be stuck behind Hooiveld waiting for your chance, Killer didn't get a game until Paul Williams was injured. No need to judge the signing yet, Those two both worked out well enough.
  3. You're wrong there. Nothing's changing, and I've never yet seen a thread where anybody has really changed their minds from an argument. What you're seeing is different people posting different opinions, not some combined consciousness changing its mind. People viewed it differently and the fact is we'll never know how he would have done. It's certainly true that his results weren't bad enough to warrant a sacking, but there are also strong rumours that his behind the scenes work was below the standards expected. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that it was just a honeymoon period, that's an empty opinion, but there's also not been any real evidence that we lost a manager who was at all remarkable. I remember being surprised when he was absent from the pre-season friendly in Gøteborg.
  4. Maybe somebody can do one comparing what they think the actual value of those players was against what the actual value of Torres. i would do it myself but... no actually I wouldn't ever do it myself. Didn't Delgado cost 3.5million, plus I always think we have to say he was really 4.5 million, but for some reason we had to pretend a million of it was for kleber Chala.
  5. Bit of a revelation about MP's extreme political views in the third paragraph.
  6. That was another one of those fan rumours that was repeated so much everybody took it as fact. Sturrock actually went out of his way to say that it was absolutely NOT Beattie who was disruptive, but there was an established team member who caused him problems. The general consensus then moved on to suspect Dodd as being the troublemaker as he was the senior player at the time. Sturrock was given a very short time and his results weren't actually particularly bad, there was no replacement lined up, so you have to just assume that something behind the scenes was making him unpopular with either players or the board.
  7. That's an odd one. I reckon for every post you can find praising fancy dress, I could find two sneering at it. I've never seen anyone praising the wearing of full kit to a game. Are you viewing a different version of the forum to me?
  8. I agree. Who's that bloke who has to comment on nearly every post MLG makes and posted those Mr Men pictures after so many of his posts and goes on and on about every claim he's made about saints, constant references to Everton, catchment area and attendance stuff. He quite often refers to things he's said on threads MLG hasn't even posted on. Thousands and thousands of posts on nearly every thread. What an oddball. Frankly, I post on average once a day, so anyone would have to be interested to even notice me. Although I do notice your name in the list of people looking at my profile quite often. I wonder why you do that so much?
  9. Surely they call them happy clappies? Wasn't that the original sneering insult on here? I think bedwetters came later. I have learned: -if one person has an odd opinion (we need a 50k stadium, Kelvin is good enough for England etc) then this will later become a "brigade" who were calling for it and shouting the sensible few down. -if you're embarrassed about being wrong, you should try to cover your shame by later saying you were just making it up to get a bite -no matter how well saints are doing, there will always be a section of our fans who are more fixated on Portsmouth's finances than on our own club -you can have 17 thousand, even thirty thousand posts on here and still not consider yourself typical of the content on here, despite being part of a pretty small group making up much more than half of what is posted on here -racism in football is finished and no longer an issue if you can find a black person who says it's not as bad as it used to be -if you don't froth at the mouth with anger when cortese is mentioned, despite not having really been given much reason for disliking him, you will be derided as being in the cult of cortese
  10. There is no irony in referring to other people as "the forum elite" or talking about how stupid what "everyone on here" thinks, despite having over fifteen thousand posts on here.
  11. It's written into Guly's contract that he must play at least 15 minutes of every game (although fair enough to turkish for admitting he got that one wrong).
  12. Crazy, either they'd have to put in a silly offer for a player of his age, who might take a while to settle in with their system or he's worth much more to us than we'd be able to sell him for.
  13. Has anyone said Idiakez yet?
  14. Somebody from Iceland has begun using biofuel to power his boat, which surely has to be good for the environment. Only the biofuel is made from whale oil and he uses the boat to hunt more whales (non endangered ones). Genius.
  15. ...or somebody comments on the odd use of "wife's".
  16. Brilliant to see. I always want them to do well. When was the last time they reached the second tier?
  17. The what time now?
  18. I've realised the title was a bit misleading for what I was asking. I was wondering why people were mentioning Svensson and Lundekvam when we were talking about the left, the right and central midfield, but I see it could be read as meaning any classic pairing. They were together longer, but I wouldn't rate Case and Cockerill as a better pairing than our current two. I'd say it was case on his own who was the great player there. I thought Cockerill was pretty average. I'd actually take Morgan and Cork over them if they keep their form up. I'm also surprised at people saying Telfer and Fernandes were a match for Clyne and Puncheon. I think they were adequate, but not as effective as Clyne and Puncheon at all. I think the only person I'd agree with so far is Badger.
  19. In the centre and on the wings, you'd have to go back a distance to think of pairings you'd swap for these. Our last decent pair down the left were Bridge and Marsden, but who would you prefer? In the centre I'm struggling for a pair who could compete with teams like United, City and Chelsea like Cork and Morgan have. Would you have to go back to the early eighties for something like Ball and Williams? Delap and Oakley were our last regular PL pair and they weren't exactly dominant. The last time we were in the PL, we had Dodd or Telfer playing with Fernandes. I certainly wouldn't swap them for Clyne and Puncheon. This is probably another case of over-rating our players after a good run of form, but who would you have to go back to to match each of these three pairs?
  20. Cork and Morgan really are the ones that make us a match for any team on our day. When was the last time we had a midfield pairing that was the equal to any of the big teams? Surely we'd have to go all the way back to Ball and Williams. I think this pairing will be a benchmark for our team for years to come. I was also wondering when we last had a right side pairing to match Clyne and Puncheon. Can anybody help me out with our last great attacking pair down the right? I'd take them over Telfer/Dodd and Fernandes any day.
  21. Fifth world championship for Aksel Lund Svindal in slalom! That's in addition to his Olympic gold from 2010. He's not quite up there with Kjetil Andre Aamodt yet, but must be the one to watch in 2014. Funny to see that there is a British cross country skiing hope. I never thought anybody British could compete with the Norwegians. Pretty much every Norwegian can cross country ski pretty well by the age of about 5 and that's not an exaggeration. I'd put it far ahead of any other sport for participation here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/winter-sports/21394021
  22. The best sledging track I've been on was when I lived in Oslo. It's called korketrekkeren (the corkscrew) and was originally a bobsleigh/luge run, but is now used for sledging. You take the train to the top, rent a sled and then bomb down the track, there's another station at the bottom, so off you go again. the train's public transport so costs very little for a whole day. You get up so much speed that taking one bend, my arm brushed the side, which was ice, and the friction actually burned a hole in my sleeve, burned, not tore. The sledges are the sort where you lie completely flat on your back with just your head poking up to see where you're going and pull on two ropes to bend the runners. It doesn't feel safe and probably isn't, but it's quite a rush. Lovely conditions here now, loads of fresh powder, and I'm stuck here with ill kids.
  23. They just call it The Olympics here.
