  1. Do you think the poxy wage of £70somethingK is commensurate to the importance of the job or the skills required to do it well?
  2. It says profits go to charity. The question is whether the saggy old c-flap got paid for fronting this or not.
  3. He's not.
  4. They can’t help themselves. In what was, otherwise, an inoffensive article: Pompey, though, is a hotbed of football, there’s a different breed of player which comes out of this city. They are brought up to have that fantastic work-rate and never-say-die attitude.
  5. The petition is completely irrelevant, unless you think online petitions are the way we should govern the country and it should carry more weight than the referendum. It would be meaningful if it got at least 17,000,000 verified separate votes from people who were entitled to vote last time. Clearly things are a mess though. I think the best way forwards from here is for May to conclude her deal won’t pass a further vote. That leaves her with no deal or permanent revocation of A50, neither of which she will want to execute. She must therefore resign and the EU must be asked for a further one year extension to allow for the Tories to elect a leader and then for a general election much later in the year to allow all parties to campaign on a clear mandate as to what they would do. If Tories and Labour can’t get their act together and offer a clear plan for Brexit then more fool anyone who votes for them. This doesn’t guarantee a decent outcome in a year but it at least opens up the possibility. Ideally an independent or cross-party commission on the NI border would be established to consider realistic, achievable solutions. Might have been an idea to do that a few years ago.
  6. Sims got to be knocking on the door too? He was good in the last match.
  7. I was intrigued, on a recent visit to Italy, to learn that the Pope is a Catholic!
  8. Yes, I agree. That's probably a bigger problem but harder to write a forum post about, so I copped out.
  9. I would favour an increase in MP salaries to something like £350k p.a., provided exploitation of expenses is curtailed. Build / lease a block of serviced apartments in London available for free use. The job's much more important than many jobs which command salaries much higher than the current MP salary. It's clear that the current system is broken and attracts an unacceptably high number of weirdos, the over-privileged, and under-skilled / under intelligent zealots. Make it more aspirational for more normal but capable people and drag it away from these unrepresentative losers. The party system is also unhelpful.
  10. Good attitude. Let’s hope he does it.
  11. I agree with GM. Don't have another vote. Just can the whole thing.
  12. Stupidity is a more dangerous enemy of the good than malice. One may protest against evil; it can be exposed and, if need be, prevented by use of force. Evil always carries within itself the germ of its own subversion in that it leaves behind in human beings at least a sense of unease. Against stupidity we are defenseless. Neither protests nor the use of force accomplish anything here; reasons fall on deaf ears; facts that contradict one’s prejudgment simply need not be believed – in such moments the stupid person even becomes critical – and when facts are irrefutable they are just pushed aside as inconsequential, as incidental. In all this the stupid person, in contrast to the malicious one, is utterly self satisfied and, being easily irritated, becomes dangerous by going on the attack. For that reason, greater caution is called for when dealing with a stupid person than with a malicious one. Never again will we try to persuade the stupid person with reasons, for it is senseless and dangerous. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Letters and Papers from Prison

    Met him once. Nice chap.
  17. True, he could have been a Real Madrid fan.
  18. If you don’t think shooting unarmed civilians waving white hankies is wrong then you’re a complete waste of space, regardless of your generation.
  19. It looks as though Lander Sports Development UK, which bought SFC, is owned ultimately by a company in the BVI - Southampton Sports Development Company - which Goa is the owner of. There isn’t a single person involved in the running of SFC that I trust. I wish they would all **** off.
  20. Yeah, but think of the bananas!
  21. You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think "Sunday, bloody Sunday!".
  22. Crikey, that’s terrible. Sounds like the perpetrator was some sort of racist Oz guy?
