  1. No expert has said, “don’t conduct widespread testing”, “don’t try to trace contacts”, “don’t invest in decent PPE”, “Cheltenham Festival is a good idea”. The government tells experts what information and options it wants within certain parameters. Ultimately the government sets policy. It’s clear that the initial response was based on the principle of not wanting to overreact and damage the economy, so it would have taken advice on possible options against that guiding premise. Then they realised they’d screwed up and did a sharp u-turn.

Long, but interesting, comparison between UK and Ireland: I haven't tried to verify any of the stats cited but I assume they are accurate.
  3. If you don't challenge views and beliefs you end up beholden to nonsense. The irony!

  5. No one knows more about these things than him.
  6. You think a sociopathic liar with dementia will do a good job? I won't be surprised if he wins because for some reason the Democrats want a candidate that makes him look young (even though he can't stand up straight, read for more than about 20 seconds or speak coherently) and he will cheat brazenly and lie constantly throughout the campaign.
  7. That is nice. Good stuff.
  8. If it's enough to keep everyone else on 100% whilst this ticks over without taking public money then that's good enough for me.
  9. “the Democrats are politicising the coronavirus… this is their new hoax.” “We’ve got 15. And soon we’ll go down to zero.” ”One day it will just go away. Just like that. It’s a miracle”. ”Hydroxychloroquine. What do you have to lose? Take it.” Trump >>> WHO
  10. WHO experts have said all along that high levels of testing and tracing are key. Funnily enough, the countries that have done that have controlled this the best.

Interesting and detailed report on what has gone on in government. Lots of lessons to be learned. [special Report: Johnson listened to his scientists about coronavirus - but they were slow to sound the alarm] https://va.newsrepublic.net/al/rbjRmh

No ****, Shurlock. All the advice and expertise from people who actually know what they are doing said that was the way to go. This isn’t a revelation that has come to us now. The government chose to dither and procrastinate. Still, could be worse, we could be Turkmenistan or the USA.
  15. Speaking of Spurs.... Has anyone else apart from us conceded four goals in extra time in an English cup match?

Norway implemented a lock-down on March 12th, 12 days BEFORE it's tenth death from the virus. Most European countries did not implement a lock-down until at least ten deaths had occurred. In the UK, our tenth death was recorded on 14 March and we did not impmement a lock down until ten days later, on 24 March. In addition, Norway has tested 101, 986 people for the virus - or 18,996 tests per million people compared to the UK's 2,250 tests per million. Norway now says it has R0 down to 0.7, meaning that on average, a carrier infects less than one other person and that things appear to be "under control". Looks like a success story. Seems to back up the WHO advice that testing, tracing and early action is key. Seems to go against doing nothing for weeks and pretending it's a strategy. Obviously Norway's smaller population and wealth is useful but, in hindsight, we probably should have taken proper measures sooner. Let's hope our situation improves soon.

The discussion was specifically about deteriorating health through lack of exercise. Obviously there are a number of reasons why it’s desirable to be able to go outside but not being allowed to go outside does not mean one cannot exercise strenuously.
  20. Tottenham are owned by Enic International Ltd which is mostly owned by a Bahamas based company owned by Bahamas-based Joe Lwis. Not that it matters.

Don't do nothing then. Do exercise in the house. You don't need a park to keep fit, there are loads of workouts you can do with body weight and no equipment.
