Where have 5 minutes come from?
-
Redmond off JWP or Boufal on for me.
-
FFS Redmond, too slow again.
-
Ref was terrible there, foul on Long, wasn't a foul by Lemina and then he books Long for complaining.
-
Tadic is so slow. Think some subs to freshen some legs.
-
We slow it down too much, that advantage with Davis being fouled we just slowed it right down.
-
Hoedt is classy, what a left foot.
-
Palace coming back into this, need to get control back.
-
Credit to Long he's being a nuisance, but his control is letting him down at times.
-
Redmond given the ball away twice in a row and keeps slipping over.
-
Not at all he toed it, the whole goal was open and where he actually put it was where a defender was. But he was stretching and he did well to keep it down on his wrong foot.
-
He so almost missed that, think he was trying for the centre of the goal.

Lack of competition for places would seem a more obvious reason for complacency. 3/4s of that team barely get disturbed from their positions, even though many like Tadic or Redmond have not been in good form for a long while. We are repeatedly told we have a strong squad but the same faces seem to get rotated. But we also lack forward options really, unless they play two up top you have 3 strikers for 1 position, but then behind them you have really 4 players for 3 positions or 5 at a stretch if you consider Davis in there, but to be honest I'm not sure JWP should be considered in there either as really hes like Davies and more of an all round midfielder not an attacking mid or wide man, so pretty much 2/4 will always be playing. We needed to get someone else in with some pace and trickery about them that would challenge Tadic/Redmond/Boufal for those 2/3 spots behind the striker. Especially as the only one last year that really made a challenge in those spots was Sims and he's out injured for a while. If say Tadic and Redmond got injured then who else have we got? The same could also be said of Forster as McCarthy clearly isn't challenging for his spot and Targett's long absence might be making Bertrand a bit complacent as well. The first team squad currently has 6 centre-backs, 5 full backs, 5 centre mids, 3 main strikers and really only 4 attacking mids/wide players.

If I was to change anything on it, then it would be the football I reckon. As in change it away from a that cartoon 'soccer' ball to something more like the ball in the Spurs badge.
-
They'll be working all week by Roy just to not leak goals and keep a solid shape, they'll be playing much deeper and Sakho will have a blinder. We'll huff and puff all game trying to break them down, miss a few easy chances then Benteke or someone will score from a set piece from only their second attack of the game.

Nope, it's fine IMO, the halo makes it and it's kind of a traditional style crest that doesn't take it'self too seriously. Spur's one is pretty cool though.

Burnley and Man City off the top my head. West Ham are tonight. It depends, if you have very mobile and talented interchangable players that run at people like Mane, Salah, Rashford, Hazard etc. then those wide forwards or whatever you call them will get enough support to your lone striker. Our wingers/wide forwards are not doing that, and only Redmond is quick, Tadic and Boufal are technically good and can dribble at people but they lack pace, and then all we have is JWP or Davis who are not suited to that at all, they are midfield passers who link play and get the odd goal but aren't going to beat a man or burst down the wing. It is becoming clear that we lack the right striker to play long up top and we lack the pace and directness on the wide areas to support that lone striker.

Yeh apparently he was due to go two weeks ago, they have obviously had Hodgson lined up for a while. Very scummy of them IMO, not a board I'd support. Apparently football is just instant success or nothing these days, you only have to look at a lot of our fans on here, already writing off players and the manager after a few games. It's funny cos I watched one of the PL legends programmes the other day and it was on Robert Pires, and he was talking about how he really struggled his first season to adapt and was getting loads of stick from the fans and in the press etc. then he turns into one of their best players just with a little patience. A more recent example seems to be Salah, 13 games they gave him before they bundled him off on loan and now he's back in the league already looking like a quality player.

Even less reasons for Long to play now. Previously CP were playing a fairly high line under FDB so there might have been space in behind to exploit but I fully expect with Hodgson they'll go defensive and counter attack, even at home I reckon, with a more direct style. So they'll probably sit much deeper and we'll have to break them down on as if we are the home side. Can quite easily see a 1-0 to them with a Benteke goal on the break or a set piece. Yeh I want him in the box providing another threat with Gabiadini so they have more people to mark and we more forward options for the midfield to actually pass to, plus someone that is actually able to hold up the ball a bit, you only have to look at the problems two up top caused Liverpool for Man City. Gabbiadini can run all day but if there are 4 defenders covering him and no other Saints player within 20 yards of him it's going to cause problems. And been on the pitch? He's played 50 minutes of football in 4 league games FFS, which is 7 minutes less than the useless Long people are so desperate to give an undeserved chance to, jeez people talk some rubbish.

Madness, utter madness. They appoint him, clearly on the basis that he was going to play a certain way, barely back him in the market and then sack him after 4 games. Especially after yesterday where they were pretty unlucky and the performance was good.

I'm wondering whether Pellegrino is stuck in Alaves mode, he managed a team last year that really had no business being 8th and did it by not working out a way of playing but really by adapting his team to exploit the weaknesses of the opposition and stopping them play. Whereas we are as a club expected to beat half the premiership if not more, especially at home, and I'm not sure this expectation to win and break down teams is something he is used to.
-
Not to mention the usually reliable Romeu had one of his worst game for us, which meant without Lemina as well our midfield lacked bite and presence. With Romeu performing and Lemina we won't get bullied and JWP can have more impact.
-
Based on most people's responses here they seem to want a forward line of Dyer/Sterling/Lennon/Long clones. As opposed to you know people who are actually good at football. Austin isn't even slow, we saw his sprint speeds on the board in the Hoedt video.
-
Puel set the team up defensively and asked them to play defensively, that was his choice, it wasn't forced upon him, he was even asked to change that and got sacked for it. There is no set style of play because pretty much all the managers we've had have done something different, under Koeman we were pretty direct. The Southampton Way does not refer to a style of play or formation and the OP knows that, he's just being his usual troll self. Pellegrino is finding his feet, it's absurd to right him off after 5 games.
-
Bull, if he gets more points and goals than Puel, especially if we are more entertaining than he's already done better than Puel. Anything higher than 17th to 7th really doesn't matter at all because it gets you very little bar a few million.
