  1. Hope the club stand firm, we don't need to sell, ride out the window and get him to buckle down. We should totally be pursuing the claims against Liverpool though, they should be punished for this, I have no doubt they are agitating things behind the scenes again through his agent.
  2. Must be why everyone is anticipating us signing Sigurdsson then cos there is some ITK info in the transfers thread and everyone is buying that right? Oh wait no, people are just as sceptical. It's nothing to do with negative or positive, it's to do with the fact that 99% of 'ITK' information is complete rubbish and the majority of it's made up.
  3. Whilst it would be an amazing signing, I can't quite see it happening. If we ever spent £40-50 million on a player it would be on a wonderkid I reckon that we thought might be worth at least double that in 3-4 years, like we'd sign the next Aguero or something. For a 27 year old who'd likly have little re-sale value in 3 years seems unlikely. Exactly the player we need though, a goal scoring centre-mid.
  4. lel not a selling club, so Suarez, Torres, Xabi Alonso etc. where just surplus to requirements. Coutinho would be an idiot not to go to Barcelona, especially if they sell Neymar so he gets a slot in the team, way nicer place to live especially for a South American and a way way bigger club than Liverpool.
  5. If he's on strike and 'training on his own' then why the hell has he gone on the training camp in the first place? Sorry makes ZERO sense, Sigurddson told Swansea he wasn't in the right frame of mind to go on their training camp because of all the transfer speculation about him, but apparently Virgil has handed in a transfer request and gone on strike which is way above Sigurdsson but is quite happy to go on a plane with the team and staff, sit on coaches, go all the way to Austria, stay in a hotel with them, eat with etc. Yeh that wouldn't be awkward at all. Logic says you are talking BS.
  6. I'm perfectly fine with our transfer profile, but our lack of activity there is no real excuse and is worrying. I want to see the team improve and progress, last year was poor by the high standards the club sets and to improve on that we need more quality in the first team. One random Polish centre-back is not going to do that and when you've sold a player for around £12 million, have record TV money coming in and have barely spent anything net over the last years I don't think asking for some quality signings is asking too much.
  7. Most chances created for Bournemouth, 2nd most dribbles and best passes IIRC. Thing with Wilshere is hes the kind of midfielder that gets the team ticking, he isn't always the guy that gets the assist but he's the one find players in dangerous positions. Xabi Alonso didn't get many goals or assists but he was brilliant for Liverpool and they made a massive mistake selling him. Not saying Wilshere is that sort of level but he could be and plays that sort of way.
  8. Would depend on his wages but I'd give it a go, think he's still probably better than what we have, he's a direct upgrade on Davis IMO, had a decent season for Bournemouth last year but you'd have to give him a very thorough medical.
  9. Just to note as well Sigurdsson didn't even go on Swansea's pre-season trip because his 'head wasnt right' but apparently Virgil is on strike but still travelled to Austria? Yeh that makes no sense. Wouldn't be awkward at all.
  10. If he is on strike then why is he even there, it makes no sense. Smells like the usual paper BS to me.
  11. This would actually be quite a good signing IMO.
  12. Keeping players is great but the first 11 is still weaker than it was 2-3 years ago. So we need at least 2 in IMO that directly improve on what we have, you can't stand still in this league, just cos we might not be fighting fires doesn't mean it's all rosy.
  13. Strikers are generally worth more than Defenders though. But the club seem to be sticking to our £75 million price tag anyway. None of those will score 25 league goals. Their squad is going to be worse off. If they sell Barkley too I wonder if we will see the same critical articles about Everton that we get from the Samuel and the like.
  14. Loftus Cheek would be good but I agree with others we should be buying him (like Bournemouth with Ake) not loaning him, we should be talking to the guy saying it could be years before he gets any regular football there and use Romeu and Bertrand as examples.
  15. If we keep everyone and add two players who are better than what we have then it'll be a good window.
  16. Sad to see him go but I don't think he was going to recapture his form from before the injury.
  17. Paul Mariner reckons we will sill him to Liverpool because we are a selling club. http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/822904/Liverpool-Transfer-News-Ryan-Bertrand-Southampton-gossip-rumours
  18. Would indicate Gardos is on his way out as he's not even mentioned amongst our defensive options. I think our 4 centre-backs next year are going to be VVD, Yoshida, Stevens and Bednarek. Presuming VVD stays of course, so looks like they are confident that Stephens/Yoshida can step up to replace Fonte.
  19. Considering he scored 9 goals for us in 21 games last season (including sub appearances) and averaged 2.3 shots per game, means you are talking complete nonsense. In minutes terms he only played 13 full games, so had about 30 shots in total, which means he's scoring about 1 goal for every 3 shots he has and 'easy chances' don't come with every shot. For him to 'waste 4-5 easy chances for every goal he scored) he'd have to be shooting about 5 times more than he actually did. People really do talk some complete rubbish on this forum.
  20. 25 premier league goals in 53 games, not sure how Charlie Austin is 'not good enough'. If we get him playing he'll score goals.
  21. Didn't we break our transfer record twice last season? Not exactly sure we are penny pinching. I'd imagine wage bill is more the issue than transfer funds. Should free some up once Jay Rod goes who has probably been on like £60k a week whilst barely playing. Would rather see us spend on the right targets than just spend, cos lessons could be learned from the likes of West Ham, Liverpool and Man Utd, not sure those clubs have got value from their transfer spending. It should also be remembered that some of our biggest transfer fees, Ramirez, Osvaldo and (so far) Boufal, have not worked out excellently for us. Whilst the cheaper buys like Romeu, Bertrand, Van Dijk, etc. have.
  22. I'd imagine if someone offers us £75 million for Van Dijk he'd go, that is silly money. I'd also reckon we'd be hard pressed to stop Cedric going to Barcelona as well, it's one thing not selling to Liverpool, club in your league, essentially rivals you want to challenge against, it's another not selling to one of the greatest clubs in the world.
  23. Having seen what he actually said, I think the headline is a little sensationalist, he actually says twice I think that he wants to assess the squad they have first before looking at any signings and that he reckons they only need one or two.
  24. No I agree, mentioned it another thread about Liverpool and Man Utd who's previous success was always built on a British core and often included loads of homegrown players. Now they spend like £25 million on players that barely play, like Markovic cos Liverpool £20 million a few years ago and barely played, ended up at Hull last season on loan. Why spend £20 million for a player you don't need surely a youth team player could have taken that spot. These clubs just throw money around until something sticks. I believe our aim is 50% homegrown players, I just think recently there has been a little gap in the talent coming through but it seems we have some more talented youngsters coming through. I reckon we'll have a good 7 or 8 homegrown players in our squad next year. --------------------------------- The Sun is saying we are interested in signing Grégoire Defrel from Sassuolo.
  25. What I thought was interesting from that interview was when Parish basically said it was the first time they had sat down and actually thought through a process of what they wanted in a manager, what style of play they wanted, what players etc. I think we take for granted how well run and thought out our processes are. Sure it takes a bit of time but look at the alternatives, the last 5 managers they had were Freedman, Holloway, Pulis, Pardew and Allardyce. All pretty much old school British managers. It's also interesting that we tracked players like Romeu and Gabbiadinni, before they went to their previous clubs. I suspect that means any signings we make this year are likely to be players we've tracked for several seasons and have recently had a change in circumstances that makes them more available, so fallen down the pecking order, nearing end of contract, etc.
