  1. Sorry but this is a joke all round, we've just sold to a rival at £8 million less than our asking price. Liverpool finished 8th last year, 8th, we are competing with them for a top 6 and have been for the last couple of seasons and we can't even be tough enough to make them pay the full amount? We've just entered the year with the most lucrative TV money ever seen in the prem, we should be able to resist financially and at least hold out for an over the top figure. Pathetic is correct. We can't keep doing this, you cannot on the one hand keep crowing on about 5 year plans and getting into the champions league whilst at the same time just wilting whenever a big club, hell a faded big club looks at one of our players. We can't keep replacing quality and we can't keep making other clubs in our league stronger. And for all those crowing about the 'reality of football' - John Stones, Everton had less money than us last year when Chelsea cam knocking. Chelsea have way more money than Liverpool and were at the time champions, not a faded club with no Europe that has just finished 8th. yet John Stones is still an Everton player. They basically told Chelsea to pay a stupid fee or feck off. They kept that stance throughout the whole summer. Instead we've said £40 million and then lasted less than a week to a much lesser club. This is a failing of our board whatever way you want to look at it.
  2. Agree, if we do sell Mane then I'd expect to see at least £20 million spent over the sale amounts, so £70-80 million, if we don't sell him but have already sold Wanyama + Juanmi, plus maybe Pelle then you are still talking about £20 - 25 million in sales and with the TV deal I don;t see why we couldn't spend another £20-25 million on top of that. So Redmond + two £20 million players who'd be direct improvements on the squad. Haven't we been in profit transfer wise for 3 seasons now? So now is the time to invest, a £40 million spend over our sales I don't think is too much risk, but knowing the club we'll probably be transfer neutral again.
  3. If Morgan is surplus then I'd pay £20 million to get him back, if the only other interested suitors are Everton we'd surely be able to attract him back here over them. Others maybe William Carvalho, might be out of league but worth a go and his other Portugal team mate Danilo.
  4. He really isn't. He made 19 appearances in the league for Liverpool last year, 11 of which were from the bench, in a team that finished 8th. Would you be happy with us buying a back up midfielder from Stoke? That Liverpool team is not that good and he couldn't regularly get in it. Why would you think he would improve our team? Clasie is a better and that's a player who was in his first season in the Prem, I reckon he'll be even better this year. In 4 years at Liverpool the most appearances he's made in the league are 27 and that was his first season.
  5. I don't really see the issue with this, they asked Koeman to commit, he didn't so they said go. Our whole club's revival has been built on sound planning and planning for all eventualities. I don't think it is unreasonable to ask you manager to commit to the future when he's only got one year left. IMO better to get him gone now so we can have stability now for 3-4 years, rather than a year of instability, will he won't he, players not knowing what's happened etc. for a year, then having to get a new manager. Imagine if he stayed then in January Luis Enrique says he is stepping down as Barca coach end of season, then we get speculation over Koeman, he potentially signs pre-contract with Barca, he loses focus, players lose focus and we waste a season going backwards. To be honest this just looks like his spin on the whole holding the club to ransom to me, he tried to bluff for a better contract and found out he's not as good as he thinks he is. Quite easy to cover it up with this 'ultimatum' excuse and our board are too professional to comment. The club's official statement when he left speaks volumes to me, Koeman mucked the club around and tried to play us and it backfired. He's made his bed and he can lie in it, will be fun watching them fail next season, that squad they have is not good enough for top 6 at all and it'll only get worse once the better players go.
  6. Do you need a lot of faith, he's moving from a relegated club to one in the prem and european football whilst also likely getting a healthy pay rise. I think for him, manager or not it's a no brainer, unlikely aside maybe West Ham/Stoke he is going to get any equal or higher status club than us. Personally not sure what to make of him, but he's still only 22 I suppose and actually did alright for a very poor team last season but do worry he's just another Routledge.
  7. We dont need Joe Allen, he's no better than what we have and no different either, basically he's another Clasie/JWP. We need a Wanyama replacement. Also if we lose Mane and take a Liverpool reject I think we can forget any talk of 'ambition' because that is clearly not showing it. Not that I think Allen is a particularly bad player, just don't think he improves our squad.
  8. He has a better record and has at least managed in two countries.
  9. BBC are saying £40 million, I suspect this is all agent talk and wishful thinking from Liverpool, some major tapping up going on it seems but there is no reason for the club to budge. Just tell them £40 million or fudge off. I seriously doubt as well that we would sell one of our major assets before the new manager is appointed.
  10. Far more? Doubt it. We are more than financially sound, have the new TV deal and would have just lost two of higher earners in Wanyama and Ramirez. I'm sure if we wanted to we could off him like £100k a week, just doubt the club think he is worth that much. Sure Liverpool have more money than us, but people are making them out to be way bigger and relevant than they actually are. There is a reason they are looking at Mane, it's because players like Gotze and top 4 calibre level players don't want to move to them. If anyone's desperate for the move, it's probably his agent and the Liverpool press so they sell papers and their favoured club is more relevant. If we get £35-40 million then fine, he's not that good, but Liverpool are seriously over valuing their status if they think they can unsettle him and then get him for £20-25 million.
  11. Didn't our U21 and U18 sides do pretty poorly last year? That is probably why we are looking at doing some poaching of youngsters, playing on the good record of developing players and getting first team progression over say a Chelsea or Man City.
  12. Clyne had a year left on his contract, was offered a new one and decided he wouldn't sign it so we cashed in. Same has happened to Wanyama. We don't need to do that, he has two years on his contract left, the club can just say no to Liverpool or say £40 million plus. And sorry Liverpool might be a bigger club but they aren't that that much of a pull, I can;t see Mane desperate to go to a club that has basically been going nowhere for ages. And £40 million is a record transfer for Liverpool, last two times they have spent £30-35 they got burnt (Benteke and Carroll), so to think they will just splash that amount again is a bit silly, they are not Man City.
  13. Puel is massively underwhelming IMO, sad thing is I knew who he was and that is what is even more underwhelming because I never considered him good enough. At least with more of an unknown there is some excitement with that. To turn down Pellegrini for Puel, can't see the reasons for it.
  14. I still think it's Pellegrini. Look at Koeman to Everton to a while to finalise.
  15. They were already paying him £80k a week, he's gone up by £20k apparently but we don't really have any players worth £100k a week IMO. Plus paying a guy who's nearly 30, relies on pace for most of his game and from reports smokes, drinks, doesn't eat healthy and doesn't do gym work a £100k a week seems a risk to me. If we had a player that was worth paying £100k a week I reckon we'd pay it and we can afford it as well, but it just isn't our way to pay so much in salary.
  16. Who says Mane wants to leave?, the last interview with him he was talking about building next season IIRC, also both he and Tadic allegedly fell out with Koeman so I suspect any 'wanting out' rumours were more based on that. If he wants to go, he'll go with the right fee, but I seriously doubt he'll make a fuss about going to Liverpool. A proper good champions league club? yes, Liverpool who are about as likely to get champions league as we are? Nope. I also seriously doubt unless they off load a few they will be making any £40 million signings, they aren't Man City, their owners aren't there to just throw money around, not after Benteke either. They need like a whole defence and goalkeeper, whilst they already have Ibe, Lallana, Firminho, Benteke, Sturridge, Coutinho, Origi, Ings, (oh and Balotelli) as players who can play as forwards. So priority would say they reinforce where they need more quality but Wenger has been ignoring that for years so who knows? I also seriously doubt any of our players are going on strike to rush over the mid table Everton, I think they will find their £100 million transfer pot doesn't go that far.
  17. Erm Leicester gave Vardy a release clause and if he'd decided to go he would have gone. If Mahrez and Kante want to move, they will go. Players have the power, not clubs. Just Leicester have champions league football something players often move to get.
  18. He said 48 hrs anyway so we are still within that time frame.
  19. He won't go for £25 million, that's just the press being their usual selves and thinking little ol' Southampton will just bend over and be gracious at whatever fee a mighty club like Liverpool offer us. It's also a Lallana figure so they are probably just using that as baseline, we sold Lallana for that much to Liverpool so we'll take that for Mane.
  20. Liverpool Echo is saying the Townsend link is wrong and they are still after Mane. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-fc-no-interest-10m-11502369
  21. Whilst being told half way through that he was being replaced. Pretty excited if this is true. Very good pedigree of manager and from what I saw seemed to get on well with the players, IIRC quite a few players thanked him after he left City, didn't see many of our players doing that for Koeman.
  22. If we think Howe is not fitting the bill doubt the Sheff Wed manager is either. Patience people still a week till the 28th.
  23. Seems more right, less wages, less fee and thus lower risk. Doubt the scousers will be enthralled by it though. If there are any rumours that Lewandowski wants a new challenge, wants premier league and might be encouraged to link up with Klopp again Liverpool should be going all out investigating the possibility of that transfer. On a side note, was thinking watching England yesterday that they could have done with a Townsend to come on, someone to run at people, take players on and has more end product than Sterling.
  24. However much it is for Malaga, it's not actually that much to turn a relegation threatened club into a top 6 one, even in Spain. I mean how many people think Everton's £100 million pot will be enough to get into the top 6, do you reckon they'd manage it with less than half that. Plus whatever the amount of money you spend, you still need to mould that into a team, so you could label it as a fault of his for failing that in the last couple of seasons at Man City, but LVG spent over £250 million at Utd and that got him a 4th and 5th placed finish. Plus his record at Villereal was good and that was with no much cash as well.
