CONFIRMED - Mane joins Liverpool for £34m + £2m addons
tajjuk replied to toe_punt's topic in The Saints
Again can't see Liverpool paying £40 million (unless they get some good sales), can't see him getting £125k a week either and finally I can't see him being very fussed about moving to a club (albeit bigger in history and fanbase) that have about the same chance as us of getting Champions league football next year. Whilst also taking away his chance of playing Euro football next season. Liverpool are simply not Man City, they haven't got as much cash to splash nor the pull for players at the moment. I'd also reckon their owners are a bit more wary of buying expensive players from less premier league clubs as well after the Benteke transfer back fired. You are talking about spending another £10 million more then they paid for him with higher wages, if I was their owners I'd be asking why they can't have found a Mane like player in the first place. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd reckon if Lallana was making his move now, rather than two years ago he'd not have made much fuss to move. It's one thing moving to premier league runners up and in the champions league Liverpool, it's another thing moving to 8th placed Liverpool with no euro football. Hopefully with Koeman gone he'll sign a new contract, especially if no interest from a higher club appears. Seems like the Utd interest has cooled so the £40 million price tag might have done it's job. -
^ I think that is a fair comment. He is unlikely to be leaving for something else, we could be his last job before he retires so long as he retains the desire to do well I don't see the issue. Also the fact he seems to want to get another job in the prem to me suggests he feels he has unfinished business here and wants to prove a few doubters wrong.

I think this story just shows that the media and bookies have no idea, the club keeps everything very respectable and quiet. Some might call it 'professional'. But whilst they might pick an unknown or a less known manager, Zenga does not really meet any of the stipulations the club are looking for. Don't panic people, if interviews were held over the weekend like it was claimed then it will take a few days to decide who the best candidate is, plus maybe they may decide that conceding more ground to Garcia might be a better option to try first and might go back to him with an improved offer. Who knows really, this is the way the club does stuff. Most of our transfers we don't usually get to too many rumours about either.

Can't see Liverpool paying £40 million for him to honest and can't see him making a fuss about moving there either. Man City, Arsenal, Barca or someone yes, but not Liverpool, what's the point moving from Europa League football to no Euro football, might as well wait to a champions league club comes knocking, one that will get there season after season. Which Liverpool currently cannot offer. With Koeman gone we are probably in a better position to get him to sign an extension as well, but we need to get a manager in first I reckon and as you are asking a lot for players to sign a new contract with no manager. If we can get a manager in of say Pellegrini's quality and few early signings in as well I reckon the likes of Mane, Pelle and Tadic will sign extensions. On a side note it's amazing what football has come to when Juventus, champions of italy can't hold onto players so it kind of worries me less that we can't. I hope Vardy bucks the trend and stays with Leicester, that squad deserves a crack at the Champions League together. -
Bale was not instantly successful, he had a couple of seasons that didn't go well for him at Spurs. Development time that maybe might have been better spent at Saints and who knows he could be even better than he is. Walcott I definitely think would be a better player now if he'd had a few more years here playing regularly rather than become another maybe and constant sick note at Arsenal. Lallana was already in the England team, I think he has not hit the same level for Liverpool that he did for us last season and he's been part of a Liverpool team that has gone backwards. Morgan hasn't had the first season he would have wanted at Man Utd and who knows, maybe Mourinho will deem him surplus to requirements. Lovren has definitely gone backwards Clyne has done ok. Chambers has gone backwards. Wayne Bridge somehow went from a player that broke consecutive game records to being injury prone and a bench warmer. Ox-Chamberlain is fast on his way to becoming another Walcott as this rate, though by the rumours at least he seems to have recognised that he needs first team football and may move on. Granted they will all be richer and they'll have played in front of some bigger grounds and can put that 'bigger' name on their CV but some cautionary tales there IMO that the grass isn't always greener. Especially our recent big money leavers none of whom have really hit the heights they probably expected and probably did not think their clubs (the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd) would be battling for Europa spots with Saints.
-
I like the look of these signings, young dynamic pacey left wingers, one who loks more silky and the other who looks more pace and power, plus a goal scoring attacking midfielder. Hope we can can pick them before they get snatched by others. The sort of players that would add to the squad I reckon.
-
This is a guy who has been considered good enough for probably two of the highest profile managerial jobs around in world football these days, Real Madrid and moneybags City, that says quite a lot and he was hardly bad in either job.
-
Garcia was the one that excited me to be honest, I wonder if the claims around him being very stubborn to change his approach in poorer times have anything to do with it? But his record at Lille and Roma were very good and he seemed to tick all the boxes to be honest. But if it isn't him than I'm warming to Pellegrini, his rep may have gone down a little this season but to be honest I'd reckon a lot has to do with Man City's owners/directors. Appointing Pep halfway through the season would have undermined him a lot I reckon and you also have to ask how much say he has had into the players, I get a very 'galactico' feel from Man City with them buying names rather than trying to build a team and then basically throwing them all at Pellegrini and saying make it work. Might be wrong, but I think it's important to remember why he got the Man City job in the first place and that was an excellent record with Villareal and Malaga. The only issue is the age thing, but if he's shown interest that's a good thing, and maybe he's given the board pause for thought saying that he'd be committed long term. Also Wenger and Ranieri are older than him, Guidolin and Allardyce are only slightly younger, Pulis is only 5 years younger so maybe it isn't that much of an issue. LVG, Hodgson, and Hiddinck are older as well I think. Certainly would prefer him over Puel, ticks more boxes for me.

Yeh first thing I said to people at work, fair play to the lino for spotting that. Top officiating. Two good performances from England to be fair, against teams that didn't really try to win, just think yesterday Portugal with a Ronaldo only managed one against Iceland and Wales have a much better squad on paper than Iceland. Sterling cannot start the next game, probably Kane will have to miss out as well, though harsh on him he looks leggy and jaded after two seasons of carrying Spurs. Rooney turning into a class midfielder as well. They'll probably f it up now against Slovakia but they should go on and win the group. What impressed me the most from this England team is they have an energy and tempo that I've not seen from previous England teams at tournaments, plus there is pace to burn in there as well.

There is no rush really, not many transfer will happen until after the Euros has finished, and the players aren't due back for another two weeks or so.

Nathan Redmond Joins on 5 Year Deal - Official
tajjuk replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
Kind of indifferent to Redmond, seems very inconsistent and a little worried about signing someone who was not a regular in a relegated team. As a squad player for more depth ok, but to actually improve the squad I'm not so sure. -
Well maybe if the ITK piece is correct he didn't really look to much into the Everton contract because his intention was to just use it as a bargaining tool for a better contract at Saints, but now he has no choice but to go to Everton he's actually checking the terms? Possibly to include things like being able to jump ship to a Barca or Arsenal and Everton don't like this.
-
No that's what I mean though, so whilst some employees may link it in personal conversations as the ITK post says, probably knowing that it will be leaked to fans, it's not an official confirmation. What I mean is when me moves/doesn't move whatever I fully expect all statements to be just regulation. Whereas personally love to see the club say (if it;s true) that Koeman was trying to use the Everton offer as a bargaining chip and that he had overstated his worth. You can't discredit the job he had done though, but as you say how much is also because of our set up, the board decisions, the black box etc. Or as other have mentioned Erwin, Sammy Lee etc.
-
Longer is goes on the more that ITK stuff looks more correct, his second holiday is strange, as most football fans across the country aside Everton ones have said the desire to move to Everton is strange, these thing seem to start tallying up. Could just be finer points, though you'd think if Moshri was so desperate to get his man and the salary amount seems that he is, a few clauses wouldn't bother him. You'd think that once the compensation had been agreed and the personal terms were agreed it would have happened. Amazing if some of this turns out to be true, but knowing the club I doubt they would ever air dirty laundry like this in public, so if he does sign for Everton you'll just get the usual guff about ambition etc. and the club will just say the usual thanks for service etc.
-
Yeh it was just bad luck and not taking chances. Though i think Vardy would have been better over Milner, probably earlier for Kane. Also fck me is Sterling crap, he can't control the ball, he can't shoot and all he can do is cut back to cross and run fast. Would have much rather had Townsend there. Was the weak link of the forward line, thought the rest of the line up was spot on, Rooney looked excellent in midfield, he brought that link play in and Wilshere yet again looked decent coming on. Lallana had an excellent game but faded last 20, Smalling, Dier and Walker were all excellent as well. The overall performance was very good, high temp, good passing, and they pressed. All it lacked was the goals to finish the game off and you always knew the massive Russian were going to get one chance from a set piece/cross. If they play like that again 9/10 they will win. They'll beat Wales easily if they play like that. But I'd still get rid of Sterling, I'd rather have Vardy out of position there.

Ronald Koeman breaks silence, sends tweet...and the response isn't pretty
tajjuk replied to Maggie May's topic in The Saints
Whilst I don't think the board sacked him, I think they were not prepared to let him see out the final year of this contract, so basically he either extended it or we replaced him. I think Koeman's plan all along was to do the 3 years then move to Barca/Arsenal/Holland, whereas the board want someone for the long term project. Hence why they weren't probably too bothered about him going to Everton as they probably suspected he was never going to agree to the extension. They've clearly been preparing for a replacement probably since our bad run mid season. -
Wouldn't him going on Gardening leave just leave Everton throwing money at other potential management targets that we might be going for? Whilst initially it would seem nice to screw them over, (wasn't there some talk recently that we won't be doing any future business with Spurs because Levy was basically an arrogant arse and was deemed not very professional?, might come back to bite us. Though considering how well the club does it's research I doubt 'throw money at something' Moshri would probably be aware of other quality candidates and is just going after 'names' he knows. Thing is we could just basically ignore Everton from here on out and no one would care, I can't see many of our players desperate to move to Everton, especially without Koeman, so actually thinking about it I'd take the hit of his wages for a year to just screw over him and Everton to punish them for taking us for a ride. If they are acting a la Spurs and levy, **** them and blacklist any dealings with them.
-
Yeh suggesting a club that has done nothing for 21 years is the 'ludicrous' part of that article. Rest of the country = wrong, oddly Liverpool Echo and Everton fans are the only ones who can see true greatness. You couldn't make it up, I'd be embarrassed to write that on a message board let alone in actual paper as supposed piece of journalism.
-
Just no to Moyes, that is a backwards step. If Emery is gone to PSG then De Boer I reckon.
-
We won't sell to Everton and I can't see any of our players making a fuss about moving to them. I mean they are Everton, not Utd or Arsenal or Man City, they are further away from trophies and champions league than we are. Plus I don't think they can afford our players, their whole squad needs rejuvenating, you don't build a whole squad with a £100 million these days and they are likely to have their 3 best players poached. I wouldn't be surprised if Stones did what Morgan did last year, agree to stay for one more year and will definitely be sold this year. Plus Lukaku has already pretty much said hes gone. Key for us is get our new manager and hopefully a good one in before the Euros end, not much transfer activity will happen until then. So if all our players come back to pre-season training with someone like Emery or De Boer, then all this will be forgotten and none of them will give two hoots about Everton.
-
Sideways move at best purely because they've thrown money at him, that's what over £13 million for one year of a manager. And people thought Shane Long was over priced. Those Everton fans are frankly laughable, big club? big clubs win trophies, play champions league football and play in front of 50-60k every week. Everton are none of those, they are middling club that's been going nowhere for 20 years. That's probably why they are all on here being all condescending, nothing else worth shouting about their club, so their greatest achievement in about 10 years is poaching another clubs manager. Feel sorry for them to be honest, but I'll enjoy finishing above them AGAIN next year.
-
Emery as first choice, but I think he'll get snapped up by someone better, then probably I'd edge De Boer but would not complain about AVB or Howe. not Martinez or Moyes or anyone like that though.
-
I kind of wonder what you expect him to say? Nothing is that better. Let's be honest RK himself said we wanted to stay and was happy for talks etc. So they have talks, probably get good noises from RK and his agent, so Reed basically says that. Then Everton come in and just keep throwing money at RK, he changes his mind and what then are the club expected to do? Even if RK was worth £8 million a year (he's not BTW) and the club offered him that, they are quite right in saying that the Everton owner will just throw more money at him. The Everton owner has come in with all the big talk and RK is part of him mouthing off, his only solution to their problems is throwing so much money at the wall until it sticks. Hell, considering RK apparently fell out with several players like Tadic, Mane, Pelle etc. and we are getting names like Emery and De Boer linked the move is probably best all round. I'm seriously doubting RK had any intention to stay beyond next year anyway so sorting this out now probably saves us having to look for a new manager for a few years.

The club how shown multiple times that our success and progression is not dependant on individuals. They have also shown that their planning is top notch and are often prepared for departures will in advance. This has given me confidence that we'll be fine, if not get better whoever we appoint. I suspect though we will be looking for a manager who buys into our plan and progression. that is why Emery, De Boer, AVB and Howe seem to fit the bill. Young, worked with young players, long term planners, and aside Howe have European experience. I have no issues with AVB, he did well at Spurs and Levy got trigger happy, Chelsea are a mess anyway most of the time, it's success now or you are out. People say he's only won were he's expected to win, but the same could easily be levied at Koeman or De Boer. Not only that but being expected to win brings its own pressures and expectations. Pellegrini has just managed one of the most expensively assembled squads to 4th, LVG has spent £250 million to finish 5th and Mourinho somehow turned his title winning team into a mid table one. A succession of Liverpool managers have spent millions to get them to what one 2nd place in about 10 years. Sometimes even doing what is expected and winning when favourites is an achievement in it's own right. I think with the support and planning we have around our manager would suit AVB

I'd happily have Chambers back, to me he there was very little chose from between him and Clyne. You also can't blame a player going to Arsenal, it's not like he made a fuss about a move or anything the club got a good offer for a player that wasn't considered essential as we had another good right back and we sold him. Chambers and Oxlaide-Chamberlain back would be excellent signings IMO, would like Chambers on a permanent though.
