Do know what I thought when wacthing him there, a lot of assists came from Lambert, not just in a striker partner role but in a more playmaker/no 10 role as well something we miss. Hopefully Pelle (maybe Austin) can lay some on for Jay Rod but I think we need another creative force in the midfield/forward area.
-
yep, better.
-
lol Vardy shouldn't be near the England team, he's a lower league striker that's scored a few tap ins and had a bit of good form for the last couple of months of the season. No way I'd want him in our team, he's essentially a Jay Rod without ability i.e just runs quite fast and works hard.

Spurs pretty much tick all those boxes but that didn't stop Morgan pretty much ruling out a move to them. Fans car about prestige and history, most players care about trophies, cash and the level of football they are playing be it playing in a better league or the champions league where they get to 'step up' and in turn earn more cash and a better chance of trophies plus more chance of international recognition. The 'big club' thing isn't exactly working for Sterling now is it? Cash + Champions league/trophies is what most players playing in the premier league will move clubs for. If someone moves to Liverpool now, if they do well they will only move to Utd, City Chelsea, Barca, Real Madrid etc later because those clubs currently and in the next 4-5 years are more likely trophy winners and play more regularly champions league and can pay more wages. So whatever Liverpool may think about them being big, a move from us currently to Liverpool is only a small move up, it;s mainly a move sideways in terms of money, trophy and champions league potential.

Get Osvaldo and Gaston wages gone, plus Morgan that's probably 150k a week spare. Plus I reckon we'll get maybe £6-8 million for Gaston from someone in Italy.

Prem club in the Champions league, can't see Chelsea buying him, so Arsenal, Man Utd and City. Arsenal seem to be linked with Vidal, he would count as homegrown I think for City though they are quite stocked in that area. Would hate to see him at Utd even though he would do their team wonders. The Athletico deal would go down well all round, hope that has some truth in it. I fully expect this to take all summer so I just think the club plan to loose him and get on with his replacement early (like Clasie) and our other transfers. and see whether he is still here in August. Would love to see us wrap up a couple of signings early.
-
Pelle and Tadic were both from the dutch league, we all know it's weak but he's also played for Holland and in Europe, he's 23 so plenty of time to improve, been linked with other clubs as well. Not necessarily a World Beater but I'd trust Koeman and the Scouting team's judgement, plus we all know that Ajax/Feyenoord/PSV academy teams produce very technical and clever players Just hope we put the cash up, if the £5 million over it true that seems a bit low for a Dutch international. If we can get him for £12 million and sell Morgan for £30 million it'll have been a good deal all round.

The Premier League TV money pays their wages...... I think only a top four finish would have prevented Morgan from going, he was clearly made promises last year and he'll throw a right tantrum again if the club denies him a move and I don't think they will do that. I'm hoping he goes abroad, would love to see him at Juve especially if they loose Pogba, would be amazing to see a player developed through Saints and the lower leagues turning out for a giant of a club like Juventus. If get close to £30 million and the club should be pushing for every penny then I'm confident we can add to the squad quality all over the pitch, get that spend another £20 million on top, so £50 million or so on 4-5 players - GK (probably a loan), Toby, midfielder to replace Morgan and a Striker. Add in we have Jay Rod as well, people like Pelle, Mane and Tadic having a full seasons under their belt in the premier league so hopefully should improve, players like Targett, Reed and Ward Prowse hopefully improving more. I reckon like Jose says we can push that top 4 all the way if we get those signings right.
-
Well still think they way Toby has been speaking we are in pole position to get him, he's done the big club thing and that's why he ended up with us because he wants to play. I'd take both Ings and Austin to be honest. Ings is on a free anyway and he looks fairly versatile and I reckon he would do all right out wide with his direct running ability plus if we end up with Europa league we need more options/cover. If we can keep Clyne, keep Toby, we will have Jay Rod as essentially a new player and add say Ings/Austin, someone like Cech or Rob Green to cover Forster and then a big money midfielder to replace Morgan that would be a hell of a window for me.
-
Yeh was thinking that when I saw him go off though didn't realise they had McCarthy who was excellent for Reading, promising young Keeper at on the bench all the time, then I watch the Stoke game and see they have Butland, another promising young English keeper doing f-all. Looks likely that Cech, Begovic and Green could be available the way the media are talking plus looks likely De Gea m ight go so Utd may need a Keeper, as may Spurs as LLoris may go, m ight be quite a few clubs looking or a quality keeper. Green would be a solid choice.
-
Would be good signing and he only has one year left on his contract so QPR need to cash in especially with their fine.
-
I think we need to pursue the Spurs policy of previous years when they got into the champions league, buy the £10-15 million pound young players both from UK and abroad, improve them, hopefully improve the team and push on up the table adding in our youth products. Sell those that want to move on for big profits like Bale/Modric etc.
-
Austin would be a good signing, to score that many goals in that terrible QPR team is a testament to his ability. He also scores all sort of goals, good in the air, decent pace and movement, hard worker, good with both feet what's not to like? Benteke would also be great, though I suspect we'd need £20 million for him and I could more see someone like Liverpool going for him, but disagree that he wouldn't want to come here, we are a club on the up and with his indifferent form for most of the season I can't see the big boys going for him. If any of the big teams need a striker (and only really Liverpool do) they need World Class and Benteke isn't there yet. Pretty much the same situation I think with Lukaku last year, he'd cost them a lot and is a bit of a gamble for them. Dzeko is most likely on his wy out, he'd be a real coup for us, marquee signing.
-
Come on even the most pessimistic Saints must admit there is a chance, we are starting to find a little bit of form, especially with a goal for Pelle, that will be huge for him. Plus City look fightless and disjointed at the moment, they can't defend. Yes you can look at their fixtures and you should say those are all fixtures they should win, but then they should have beaten Burnley and they were in better form when they played them. So it's not far fetched to see them drop 4-5 points between now and when we play them. It's whether we can go on a good run. I'd say it's less about whether we can catch City, I totally think we can it's whether we can catch City AND keep ahead of Liverpool who will most probably beat the toon tonight. But hey lets enjoy the ride, best premier league total ever, potential to finish in our highest position for what 25 years?, pretty close to at least Europa League, and an outside chance of 4th and Champions League. it's at least going to be a fun run in with something to actually play for.
-
Well sort of players I'd like to nick from the relegation threatened clubs would be Austin, Benteke, Ings, Trippier so let's say Burnley, QPR and Villa
-
Considering the market, competition I'd easily expect over £30 million for Morgan. Anything less would be very weak from our board, to be honest they should be pushing closer to £40 million. Not many out there as good as him, none ready adjiusted to Prem football and he's a player the Utd & Arsenal in particular really need.
-
Champs league dream still on? ?City to loose to Utd tomorrow ans Saints to pip them to fourth on the final day............... Wishful thinking I know but exciting that we are still in with a shout, however small!
-
^I'm pretty sure he ended up here because he wanted to play regular football as there was utd talk at the time we signed him.
-
Stuff that happened 20, 30 years ago is pretty meaningless. Footballers sign for clubs for potential of winning trophies and money. The rest is just fluff for fans to argue about, but it means nothing. Liverpool scoring higher in this list won't stop their best players wanting to leave to Chelsea or Man City. Just like a player would obviously choose us over West Brom.

Saints agree personal terms with Tonny Vilhena - Unofficial
tajjuk replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Can't agree with that, Tadic, Pelle, Forster are our 3 biggest signings and considering their overall contribution throughout the season (not tunnel visioning on recent months were a few have lost some form) they have been excellent signings. Forster has easily improved on Boruc, I'd say Tadic has produced more than Lalana did last year and Pelle is about on par with Lambert. Elia, Gardos and Djuricic have not had a huge amount of game time, but when called upon they have contributed. Our options from the squad have vastly improved and I think being able to call on the likes of Gardos and Elia rather than Hooiveld and Guly is one of the reasons we are higher in the table. Only one signing I will criticise is Long, not for the player as again I think as bench.squad option he has given us more than we had last year, but you shouldn't pay £12 million for that, more like £6 million. Overall though our recruitment has been excellent, we lost 5 key players from last season and 1 decent squad player (5 sold on to injury). In Tadic, Mane, Pelle, Toby, Bertrand we have at least matched, if not improved replaced our first 11 quality. Forster is an obvious improvement and the likes of Gardos, Elia, Long have meant that the overall quality when some of the first 11 have been missing has not dropped as much as it did last year. To loose 5 key players and improve shows that our recruitment has been nothing short of sensational, to say otherwise is delusional, name a club who has been gutted of key players like ours and recovered so easily? -
Man Utd still have to play Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City, as well as away to Palace, Hull and Everton, quite easily they could loose 3 and a draw or two out of those. Arsenal have to play Chelsea,Utd and Liverpool. Whereas we could win 6/8 considering who we are playing so you never know, outside chance yes but still there.
-
Looks like both Man City and Man Utd will have a fairly big clear out of players this summer so I expect most of the heat on our players to come from that direction. No English clubs in the last 8 of Europe isn't great for us as I imagine all the big clubs will be looking to improve a lot and with our performance this year challenging top 4 there is even more focus on our players. Clyne and Morgan are the most likely to go, Jay Rod if he doesn't sign, I think we stand a fair chance of recruiting Toby based on his comments. I can't see the club agreeing on Wanyama going if Morgan goes, not without a massive fight. Nor Mane after just one season. I doubt we have any Lovren types in the camp at the moment, could be wrong but I doubt many players will agitate for a move. If we could just sneak that 4th I doubt we'd loose anyone. Stable manager though who will attract players to him will help massively not to mention our continued improvement and likely europa league spot together with our so far very good long term planning and scouting should mean that we can attract decent quality replacements.
-
We need to find some momentum from somewhere, Pelle going on another goal scoring run. However it;s like 3/4 points to catch up from 10 games when the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and Man Utd all have to play tough games and each other so you never know. Liverpool have FA cup replay now, SPurs still have Europa league I think, Arsenal champions league. Sadly away to Chelsea up next so we most likely could slip 6 or 7 points off the pace, which is too much if others don;t slip up. I think it will be 7th maybe 6th
-
lol really a delusion? think you are the deluded one, Spurs as it currently stands is a sideways move, I mean they are one point above us for a start, they wont get champions league, not this year nor the next, nor many after not realistically, their best players will move to Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City etc just like ours and they have done f*ck all for 50 years. Plus I doubt they can pay much more than we can these days either. So doubt any of our players would agitate to move to Spurs. Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal, Man City yes, these clubs are much bigger than us, but they are also much bigger than Spurs. Players want to play in the Champions League, challenge for titles, get paid 100k a week and play in front of big crowds in big matches. Spurs offers none of that, over us they offer London, Europa league and probably 20k a week extra. OMG such a step up!
-
My faith has gone, just think the dropped points against West Ham and Swansea, add that 4 and even the recent slip ups we'd be right back in it. On last nights performance I don't expect us to get our goal scoring mojoe back all of a sudden, we will pick up points and others will drop them no doubt, there will be upsets but the form of the others has picked up too much I think and we desperately need our team to click up front. Shame Jay Rod is not back he could be the spark that ignites the goal scoring again and pushed us onto a good run, we really need like a 8 or 9 unbeaten I reckon with at least 6 wins in there and I'm not seeing it when we can;t score a goal.
