  1. Monaco paid a fair bit for him as a 17 year old from River Plate IIRC, has always been highly rated and even if the French league is poor he still seems to have done pretty well in it for a 19 year old.
  2. This, we are 8th in the league, only two of the top two will be left in the next round so if we get through we'll be either 3rd of 4th highest prem team left in depending on Everton. Man Utd and Spurs are already out and Arsenal/Man City/Chelsea will have the champions league to deal with as well.
  3. Regardless of of what form or run Man Utd are in by the time we play them I fancy our chances of beating anyone at home. Over the the last two seasons at home we've beaten and drawn with Man City, beaten Liverpool, beaten Chelsea once (lost once), drawn with Arsenal twice (and should have beaten them) and narrowly lost to a Utd team on what our third game back in the prem. Against that big 5 at home that is P8, W3, D3, L2. The only games we will probably loose at Man City away and Spurs away, even then Spurs have been better away from home than at WHL this season and it took a Bale wonder goal to beat us there last year. We certainly are capable of winning all our remaining home games (we obviously won't), and more than capable of beating the likes of Palace, Villa, Swansea, West Ham away. If we avoid the type of sluggish performances like we had last year against QPR then I reckon we could pick up 20-21 points from those remaining games.
  4. Not sure Liverpool can really be put up as some sort of champion of youth products, certainly not recently. Gerrard is 34, Flanagan is only playing because Glen Johnson is injured. Henderson cost nearly £20 million and has only recently started justifying that price tag. I don't for example see them starting 4 academy products or 3 18 year olds in a prem game. http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/fans/faqs/who-qualifies-to-play-in-europe/ I think 7th will get a Europa spot only if the FA Cup winner AND runners up AND league cup winners are already qualified for Europe. Finishing 7th, potentially with a Europa spot, potentially above Man Utd would be a great season. When you add in the youngsters we have brought through, the football we have played and we could potentially have several players going to the World Cup with England it would be difficult to call it anything but a superb season for the club.
  5. Let's not do a Charlton.
  6. I think finishing 7 - 10th in the league in only your second season back in the Premiership is a good achievement and represents steady progress to build on.

    Boruc

This. The cross was delivered to the near post about 2-3 yards out, that is much more the responsibility of the defenders than the keeper, Boruc did pretty well to get there, just got a bit unlucky. Don't let the guy who has the 3rd most headed goals in premier league history get space on the near post. Both goals were easily avoided and whilst you could argue maybe Boruc should have done better for both I think the route cause of the goals was bad defending. Can't expect him to always bail us out.
  8. We have JWP who I think is better and will be better than Hughes and the play similar positions. A young promising goalkeeper would be good.
  9. I blame Man Utd. Giving Stoke too much confidence. Maybe we should also ask the FA to schedule our games in August or April/May when it isn't weather that suits crappy Stoke football.
  10. Bitter Stoke fan. They been in the league for what 8 years now and they've never been shy of spending either, but the last few years they've been treading water. Whereas we've been the league two years and gone past them. Would be nice though to actually beat them for once, we certainly deserve a win considering our performances. A little worried though that most people think we will beat them fairly easily.
  11. Do we not have the luxury of being able wait to get the best out of him? We're on course for our highest league finish and have plenty of competition for places, if this spurs Gaston to win his place back and show his true potential then the team wins, if he doesn't then we aren't worse off
  12. Certainly seems happy enough in training videos etc and pretty integrated with the team. It's a shame because I think he was starting to find some form, it's clear he's not really hit his potential yet, but he at least seemed to have got into being Poch's go to man to change a game. I do wonder if he's ever really been fully fit, seems to pick up injuries often, there also seems to be a bit of a Mourinho/Mata issue going on, not sure Poch truly trusts him yet but he always seems to work hard when on the pitch. Hopefully he'll be back soon and will win us some points over the next few months. Saw both him and Lovren running about in the Poch interview so I presume they are both back in light training.
  13. The only real main player gone is Osvaldo, and we all know why. Aside from that the rest were surplus to requirements. We try to buy quality and usually we spend a long time assessing the transfer, not every transfer is going to work out well but Wanyama and Lovren have proved very good signings so far, Osvaldo not so much but hopefully we can at least re-coup most of the money. I would imagine they are looking at potential Striker targets but doubt we will have time or the will to do it in January. if we were cost cutting we would sell Gaston and cash in on Luke Shaw.
  14. £10-12 million ish, he still needs to work on his technique IMO, his first touch at times is poor and his shooting can be poor, lots of scuffed efforts. Got a lot going for him though pace, good dribbling, decent physique etc. but still a little rough around the edges
  15. I think that is probably that. Whilst I doubt the club will implode or anything, our continued growth, the improvement, the detailed planning for everything, the drive and work ethic throughout the club and the investment. It all sources back to Cortese. A few decent players will go, staff will go (not just Pochettino but key people throughout the club), if Katrina is looking to sell then I imagine the club will meander for the next 6 months or so. Basically the club will be fine but the chance to be a bit more, the slim chance of pushing up the ladder is gone now IMO.
  16. Hopefully with the back five back together, Wanyama to come back we can push on from here and get another good run going. Let's hope that is the sticky patch over, fairly tough run of games, a few key injuries and a hectic schedule. Aside from Arsenal and Liverpool (both at home as well) we have plenty of chances in the next 10 games to get plenty of points.
  17. Dominating possession but with Long they will always be a threat on the break. Need to do a bit more, more down the left side by the looks of it.
  18. Don't care if he never speaks English in interviews
  19. He doesn't earn 2 million euros net, that was a figure made up by an Italian newspaper. I love how some clueless people keep repeating the same incorrect fact., but then you expect that from the usual WUMs
  20. I think this is just a case of getting Morgan's name noticed by the French FA and thus hopefully increasing his chances for a call up that he clearly deserves, there aren't many better DMs in Europe let alone French ones. The more of our guys that get international call ups the less reasons they have to move, as this is one of the commonest reasons to move to bigger clubs aside from money and champions league football.
  21. Awesome news, great news for the club as well even less reason for our players to move on as they can get international recognition with little ol' southampton.
  22. Wow 12 pages really? We lost a league cup game away to a full strength Sunderland team with our B team, and only narrowly. Not sure that needs twelve pages of reaction. I suspect certain posters have been waiting for the 'fall' to jump all over it, sorry to say this isn't it. Clutching at straws comes to mind. Fresh players for a winnable game on Saturday.
  23. Lallana definitely deserves a chance, he's been excellent and he offers something England don;t have an abundance of a player with very quick feet and close control dribbling. Most of the wide/attacking mid type players we have are off the Walcott mould, pacey and direct. Lallana is different he's more of the Silva type player. Lambert should retain his place, Clyne is worth a go as well, Jay Rod needs to score more goals. Shaw isn't going to get ahead of Baines or Cole but I suspect Cole will retire after the World Cup and Shaw will be a squad regular.
  24. Yeh but we also lost at home to Wigan and QPR for example to catch up points.
  25. His future role will be number 10 I think, people seem to over look hes got great feet and is comfortable with the ball on either foot, he's darted into the box a few times and quickly shifted direction to fool defenders. If he adds some goals I think he'll get that position regularly but his versatility is playing in his favour at the moment. He also told us pre-season that he wasn't going to settle for a place on the bench and hes certainly true to his word hes pushed hard for a first team spot and earnt it.
