An Orkney man convicted of rape has been awarded £500 in damages for a breach of his human rights over prison toilet conditions. Robert Stanger, 42, was one of two sex offenders to be awarded the amount, after having to queue to empty chemical toilets in Peterhead Prison, before changes in the system were brought in. Stanger, a Stromness fisherman, was jailed for eight years following a double rape conviction in 2005. He raised the action for judicial review at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.
