  1. aye.. the question be, how many is going to the first game of next season.... aye..
  2. fair enough, I can understand that sentiment. But the event was unique in that it changed the way football clubs dealt with fans. The fact that Wednesday called allotted segments of their terraces "pens" speaks (spoke?) volumes; we should be thankful that we are not so contained and regulated at modern grounds like SMS. And as for the opinion that it was nothing to do with Saints: we still (rightly) remember the fallen from the first world war during remembrance Sunday, but it could be argued that that event had nothing to do with anyone, anywhere in 2009 (save a half-dozen souls still going strong). But we do remember because of what it was. That event at Wednesday twenty years back did have ramifications for all of football, and I believe football now is safer as a result. And so perhaps it would have been proper to fall silent and hold our breath for a while; to remember..
  3. Anyone else think it was weird that we didn't have a minute silence before the game kicked off today? I was honestly expecting it. I saw on MOTD2 that Liverpool fell quiet, which is only natural, but I imagined a moment's reflection would be observed by all fixtures this weekend. I was all of 13 years old when it happened but I can remember the TV news like it was yesterday. It must be weird standing in the Leppings Lane end at Wednesday even after these last twenty years, going through that tunnel. Never again.
  4. OI! - look, don't take the mickey. My original post was totally sincere. Life is pretty crap at the moment what with the recession and everything, i've lost about half my income and the other half is not looking so good for the long term, so enjoying the City's parks for half an hour after seeing our boys win at home was a real highlight in my week. Take the **** all you want, but I enjoyed my day.
  5. In the words of the greatest musical and performance talent ever to grace God's good green Earth: THREE POINTS ARE ALL OURS!!! I was a fighter always looking for trouble And my life was so empty, there was nothing left to live for But then it happened one night as I got into a fight I could hear someone saying as though he was praying Ah-a-ah-a-a-a-ah-ah Treat him well, he is your brother You might need his help some day We depend on one another Love him, that's the only way On the road (on the road) that we're going We all need (we all need) words of comfort and compassion Treat him well, he is your brother Love him, that's the only way I was a woman never thinking of others And my life was so lonely, didn't care for anybody But then I happened to meet a begging man in the street As I turned down his praying I heard someone saying Ah-a-ah-a-a-a-ah-ah Treat him well, he is your brother (brother) You might need his help one day (he's your brother) We depend on one another (brother) Love him, that's the only way On the road (on the road) that we're going (that we're going) We all need (we all need) words of comfort and compassion Treat him well, he is your brother (brother) Love him, that's the only way. Treat him well, he is your brother (brother) You might need his help one day (he's your brother) We depend on one another (brother) Love him, that's the only way COME ON YOU MIGHTY SAINTS! ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE TOP! WE ARE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS IN WAITING! MIGHTY, MIGHTY SOUTHAMPTON FOOTBALL CLUB!!!
  6. 23K today.. Leeds V Stockport had 25K yesterday...Higher than all div 3, div 2, and fratton... makes you think... will we get 25K next season if we are down in div 3?? ... I'll be there whatever so that is one down....
  7. Since moving to Brighton, I have always had to rush back to the station as quickly as I could after the final whistle; rushing out the ground, over the bridge and pegging it to catch the 17:36 train back along the South coast. Normally with my head down and usually in the winter-dark. But today, thanks to the fact that it is a bank holiday, the train times were a bit wonky. So, not having to break a sweat, I was able to amble my way through the park and really enjoy it. Naturally, the fact that we had won, played some role in lifting my spirits, but in all honesty I am not exaggerating when I say that the park was totally majestic. Spring time was everywhere, the blossom, the tulips, the herbaceous borders, the more mature trees, everything was an absolute picture. The sun caught the Clock Tower perfectly, there wasn't a cloud in the sky, the birds were tweeting... it was heaven on Earth.. so rather than try and wax lyrical about the football, I thought instead I would just point out that we really are immensely lucky to have these parks in our City. And I truly give the gardeners who look after them my sincerest thanks, awesome job! An absolute pleasure, thanks Our Southampton is a most beautiful city. ..and well done you Saints!
  8. unbelievable. we are doomed.
  9. leaving for Havant in two hours... can't get radio reception for Solent or Radio Hampshire in Brighton. Need to get closer to Southampton. Take my little tranny* with me and find a boozer.. (*tranny = transistor radio, not transexual)
  10. Is tonight's game on television? if so which channel..
  11. ... a few blades of grass. I'm stone broke. So the boys will have to make do with my full-vocal support each and every game from now until we have won the Champions League UEFA cup, Premiership, Carling Cup and Football Association Cup.
  12. Yes, I agree with the general premise of this thread. We do need a team for Watford.
  13. few. thought I had misread the title of this thread for a minute. Thought it said "pensioners on the game" eeeeeeewwwww!
  14. might be a *****... ***** = B.i.t.c.h
  15. "Consortium Watch" !! Does this have Bill Oddie and that sexy blonde chick in it? "And here we are in a hide outside the main reception at St Mary's. We are hoping to see this season's consortia appear at any minute..." !!
  16. Can you imagine if a woman 'bore fruit'. Euphemistically of course. Be awful. I suppose it would bring a whole new meaning to being the 'apple of your eye'
  17. Massive day? perhaps the OP is no student of relativity then! ...time being as it is the obtrusion of energy on to mass viewed at the constant (non 'strung') speed of light. Let's just hope that our boys manage to energetically obtrude their boots onto the ball with the correct velocity to enable it to find its way into the goal more times then Watford do.
  18. To answer the original Echo article: not really. If there are any Monets et cetera which are collecting dust in a dusty council archive somewhere then two things should happen: first, the bloke in charge of the City's art should be taken out side and shot, and second, the paintings should be exhibited in Southampton or lent out - at interest - to national galleries. Real art (into which category I do not include the 'works' of self-aggrandising non-artists which hang on the walls of the Tate modern. Alas, more a spectacle would be to see the actual artist hanging from a gibbet outside the gallery..) should not be collecting dust! Nor should it be dragooned into service to bail out our club. We should do that.
  19. Ah! Well done to all of you who have made this non-thread such a roaring success! My hat is doffed accordingly, yours, St. Raw of Berry
  20. Forecast for British economy from the club's administrators, not good: http://www.calculatedriskblog.com/2009/04/bankrupt-brits.html
  21. oh whatever. I give up. Let's move on.
  22. eh? Real football violence? As opposed to fake football violence? I remember it all too well. Growing up as I did in the 80s. The point is that by having a dig at something it doesn't mean you condone it. FFS, implicit in my post about stamping on a Charlton fan was that some idiots do think that it is the best bit about football and they really do think that their club should be proud of them.. Please, lighten up a wee bit!
  23. ok, so the game was rubbish today, but could it have been in part down to the players been TOO eager? Sometimes when you know it is a big match it gets to you and you under perform. I'm not trying to make excuses for them but there is no way the recent events vis-a-vis the administrators and "24 days to save SFC" would not have got to them in some way. ..only a thought.
  24. Oh you have got to be having a giraffe? Our potential saviours aren't going to be reading this forum! And if they are then I reckon they will be able to work out the implicit satirical content from the genuine thuggish chav talk.
  25. well said. Funny how the Northam fills up on games where, co-incidentally the chav-factor goes through the roof too.
