  1. I didnt say we had. Just saying he's not exactly a local boy made good, he must have been playing for somebody, probably on tyneside, before coming to us, loads of the players who've come through our youth setup have come from other clubs, hopefully Jack Stephens will be one of the next stars in waiting
  2. was it him that skinned rooney for his betting money, or the other way round? or somebody else altogether? I vaguely remember a story about that a few years ago where the suggestion was it wouldnt help the england dressing-room.
  3. Agree with all of that, exactly how I saw it. Decent read though. Did you ever see Dr Strangelove, the Kubrick film? That was oddly compelling, and struck me as far closer to the mark of what Neville Shute was driving at.
  4. Thats true enough, and dont forget that lad from the tyneside area we grabbed to come up through our ranks, I forget his name now, alan something? Whatever became of him?
  5. Something was said about a bet. I glazed over after reading about 10 posts, thats 30 seconds of my life I wont get back
  6. this. I cant understand why anybody would think we ought to ditch him, he has been so effective even when not fully fit and coming off the bench, and tbf I dont think we would have cruised through the promotion run-in without him. Really excellent player. Agree with this as well. And fwiw I think Jaidi will do just fine in the NPC. Cant see NA making too many changes in the window myself. He has obviously been building a team to compete in a league above, and wholesale changes wouldnt help the cohesion we have now.
  7. wasnt she "rear of the year" once?
  8. They promised that if they were elected as the government. They were not elected as the government. What would you have preferred after the election failed to produce a clear winner? 250 days and counting without a government, like the belgians? We werent exactly in a strong position economically. I think Clegg did the right thing myself and damaged himself and his party in the process, and probably did it knowing that would be the case.
  9. Yes, he's ruined them by actually putting them in power for the first time in living memory. And all these comments about manifesto pledges are irrelevant btw. They were not elected. They are part of a coalition, which is an entirely different thing. Of course they wont get everything they wanted to implement. Neither did the tories.
  10. I dont know any more about the McCanns than anybody else on this forum, but I do remember one of the detectives in charge of the case saying in an interview that he had to practically drag them into doing a press interview and a subsequent documentary in the hope that it would help to find the poor kid. Its easy to make snap judgements based on media reports and speculation but I doubt that any of us will ever genuinely know what actually happened.
  11. ^ all the above. Such a young age too, very sad news.
  12. Sit down and take a close look at whether they could do with being done, or whether they actually need to be done to facilitate your survival. You'll be surprised at what you can avoid, and every job you do around the place leads to another five being added to the list. We had six months of building work done last year, which meant a shedload of shifting stuff around, making good and decorating, and I'm f*cking sick of it. I told the wife after christmas that I'm not doing any more for a while, and it seems to have stuck. Dont buy anything for future projects either.
  13. I've gone on strike. Its actually simpler than you might expect, just tell her you arent doing any diy for a while and dont specify a timeframe. Its worked for me since christmas.
  14. Not in Nursling yet, but I just took the dog out for a walk and theres some quite heavy thunder and lightning. I'm out in the van all day tomorrow, so hoping the rain doesnt go on all day...
  15. I'd have thought the exact opposite.

We've been to Looe, Polperro and Mousehole, all pretty places, but I'm with jimmy gabriels halo on this, wont be rushing back anytime soon.
  17. Get off the fence...
  18. Is the darlaston inn still going, on that roundabout between newcastle and stafford on the A34? I have fond memories of that place.
  19. Oddly enough, we had a meal there and I thought they were very poor. The food was ok, nothing to write home about imo, but the service was pathetic, we had a table of eight and had to remind the waiters 4 or 5 times that we wanted another bottle of wine which never did arrive. Which meant that half of us had water with our meals, plus the food was arriving in separate batches so some of us were having our main courses while others were still waiting for their starters. I would have let it go myself, but one of the party kicked up a fuss afterwards and was given a bottle of red wine for his trouble, but that was hardly the point. Wouldnt go there again myself. At those eye-watering prices I would have expected a lot better.
  20. well I'm southampton born and bred, but I trained in Newark for three years. My dad used to send me the football echo every week, I think that kept me sane.
  21. maybe they have viagra there?
