Scoring rather than conceding late would be an improvement. Let's hope they give it a go.

It's hard not to get a bit negative when once again we are not winning a game we really should be and we're still a long way from having a positive number of points in the league.

We've had 4 shots from 30 yards or more according to the live commentary on OS. That smacks of lack of options going forward to me.

That's a strange one. Let's hope it works ... oh and the posts here have helped of course ...

We have to take hold of this game and it doesn't seem like we're doing it at all. Hope Mills and Harding can link up down the left and create something, because I can't see much coming from the right.

I agree with those who predict a scruffy and not entirely convincing win for Saints. I would be very happy with that personally.

We were also only 10 points away from the top of the table. If that were the case now, I'd be much more confident of going up. I do think we have a team to be optimistic about, though. COYS

Potentially the best team could be: -------------Kelvin Murty----Jaidi-----Trotters-----Harding Papa---Hammond--Morgan------Mills ---------Saga---Lambert But Lallana has talent, so do James and Mellis, who Pardew seems to like, so if Saga's attitude isn't right, we could either use Papa there or put Lallana as a more attacking player. Ditto with Morgan and James/Mellis to replace if he's not doing it. Some good options, though, I reckon now. I haven't seen Hammond and don't know how good the defensive side of his game is. If he can sit, then put someone more creative and attacking alongside. There are few weak points on paper at the moment if all those players are fit.

Deelighted! That Pardew bloke seems to understand the bleeding obvious when it slaps us in the face every game and now we have an owner who backs him to do something about it. Surely this isn't the same team I've been supporting for all these years. I'll wake up soon and it'll all be a dream. We'll have some Dutch clowns pretending that 17-year-olds are the way forward and that we play the best football in the world. All the fans will be boycotting games because of the chairman and we'll be selling/loaning out anyone who has experience and ability.

I'm hoping Schneiderlin will up his game now and show us why the French international set-up rate him so highly. He could be the creative midfielder we need if he knuckles down. Once we have people giving him options wide then he'll have more space to exploit. Saga must be due one of those bursts of goals that he gets occasionally. A quick scoring run to get 15 before the next transfer window to spark some interest, maybe. However, we need 4 strikers to have options and unless we go further into the youth team, I think we only have 3 at the moment.

I guess you're right. He looked good against the better purer football teams in the championship, but is too easily knocked out of games. He definitely shouldn't be on the left wing, though.

And there was me thinking he needed to be dropped. Perhaps he will come good this season after all.

I'd go for: Davis Murty Perry Thomas Harding Thomson Morgan Gillett Mills (if fit) Saga Lambert James in for Murty if not fit but then you need someone better at tracking than Thomson. I'd go for Gobern on the left if Mills and Holmes aren't fit. Lallana on the bench to come on for Saga if he's not doing well.

I am soooo happy Lambert has signed. He will score more than SJ would have.

I was very impressed with Harding defensively. I thought Lallana looked up for it and was industrious, although did better work covering than creating chances. Paterson looked very good and hope he's not injured. Murty was as solid as I was hoping. Schneiderlin had a very good first half. Saga was giving his all and not shirking anything. Pardew understands that we need to add to the squad and we got a point against one of the better teams with a side which is work in progress.

I doubt Holmes will play as Mills has played almost all the games in pre-season and seems to have done pretty well.
