FWIW when he rushed out to block Defoe he did a star spread very like a certain ex Man United blonde goaly used to do , I was sitting right in line with it in the Chapel and commented that technically was very good . If you take punch and AL as the wide two Ramirez has to play in the centre midfield AMC , with two more defensive midfielders behind him Morgan , Davies and cork fit that roll . BUT the two wide players have to be fluid moving between the midfield and attack.

AT LAST, a sensible post with regard to this 4-3-3 Barcelona myth .....Barca play actually a fluid 4-5-1 the two wide players drop back and support the midfield and overload the oppositon pressing them to submit the ball , once they have the ball the short play between the defence and the midfield and push the wide players gradually up on overlaps to support the single forward , full backs also push up beyond the half way line keeping the overload in Midfield . We are trying to this , but it requires highly skilled players with great football brains ...additionally the full backs and wide players need to mega fit and pacey , do we have the players to play like this ? personally I doubt it at this stage and what we are doing is playing a rigid 4-3-3 hence we are having the midfield overrun and leaking goals because out only width is coming from the fullbacks pushing forward . This leaves us with a shorthand defence and only 3 in midfield as soon as we lose the ball !!

If you know that the team you are playing is strongest down the wings with partnerships like Baines and Peinnar would you send out a formation that is narrow and wont offer any cover to the full backs on width ??? Didnt think so , so why did NA ?

Previous performance means nothing to Cortese ask Sharp ,Hammond and Connelly

Billy Sharp , Barnard and Hammond all performed admirably for us in the championship and Div 1 . They all played there part in our promotion to the PL , they are gone because either Adkins or Cortese thought they couldnt cut it in the premiership . Especially harsh on Sharp IMHO .........The club showed no mercy or regard for what they have done in the previous seasons with these guys . What evidence do we have to suggested Cortese will take a softer view with Adkins ?? Especially as he effects the whole club and not just one position !! Personally I think he is on borrowed time Cortese is driven and wont blink an eyelid at making the decision . IMHO

One point is that its not really one up front , or it shouldnt be with 4231 or 4321 ..... when this was introduced by Mouriniho a few years back with Drogba up front the whole point was that he wasnt alone up front when they attacked , the players playing behind the forward had pace and were fluid , they dropped back when needed in Midfield and streamed into attacking support when required. The single player upfront was never isolated in the way SRL has appeared to be at times when we have played this system. It may come with time or with players with more pace to support him , also this systems needs BOTH full backs to push forward and offer overlaps Clyne was doing it on Saturday Fox wasnt !

His movement and runs are world class ....actually they were to good for his team mates in many cases last season when he played . He can play in the hole and make those runs , ideally suited to the premiership in my opinion.

Your all forgetting how good Tadanari Lee is ...............IMHO he is as good as Ramirez , Just needs to get fully fit . Can see him being first or second on the team sheet once he is.

Brinkmanship in the extreme from the Italians , if as has been reported they are strapped for cash they will do the deal eventually , I dont believe they will let us walk away IMHO. There are a number of companies with agreements with high end banks (investec one ) who will factor deferred transfer fees and Parachute payments. However the contracts are complex and dont take two minutes to sign up and agree . If they want to factor the Payments from Saints they can but they should be doing it after completing the deal not simultaneously , potentially this may be Corteses reasoning for giving a cut off time .

Wouldnt it be better just to pay 6 Million for Phillips and wedge up the wages Citeh want to get in Adam Johnson ?? Much cheaper as well . Just saying !
