It surprises me that reasonable grown adults want a young man dead or tortured or imprisoned for ever, for a crime that was committed at the age of ten. I'd have thought, given his age, if there was ever a case for the potential of successful rehabilitation within the custodial system, this (on paper) would stand a more reasonable chance than most.

Most dogs are already chipped. Soon, a database will be in place containing the dna details of every dog legally owned. Official wardens will then be issued with a probe, and will poke each and every dog egg they find on the pathways, identify the dog details and issue heavy fines to the registered owner. This will solve the problem overnight.

Of course we must. We can't just drop a most important civil liberty because we disagree with those who choose to use it.

I don't like religious extremism for a whole list of reasons, but of course we have to allow their right to a peaceful protest. They have a legal right to freedom of speech, but more importantly an ethical and moral one that must be respected. We have to value those freedoms, they are important and they should apply to everyone.

The rights and wrongs of corporal punishment aside (wrong by the way) I think the point is that there was evidence put forward suggesting mental illness, but the Chinese refused have him assessed. Then they killed him. In my opinion the UK government should be applauded for publicly criticising that decision, and they shouldn't be alone in that. A rare moment for me to be proud of our government and the stance it has taken.

I'm far more concerned about the countless deaths by HIV and AIDS caused directly as a result of Catholic propaganda against the use of condoms in Africa. In humanitarian terms, his death and that of every other Catholic preaching this evil would be a blessing.
