The Gerrard tackle, the Lampard one and Paterson against Manu were al very similar. The only difference was how the tackle connected with the opposing player. Gerrard kicked air because the Chelsea player jumped up, Lampard did the same but Alonso then kicked hm which made it look like he hit Alonso and Paterson hit Vidic (although with a ball inbetween) full on. According to pundits this means that the Gerrard tackle was a yellow, the Lampard one should have been nothing and Paterson got a deserved red when al three should have gotten the same card (red). The all went in with the foot in the air and studds showing, how simple can it get?

Not sure, its better to bring young players slowly. They might need time to adapt to the pace of the game and often tire quickly. Now he can be used as an impact player which I don't think is such a bad idea. Euell I would have started with.
