  1. Totally agree but find the current odds on promotion about 2/1 rather baffling
  2. Harry Rednapp at Rownams Service Station he was filling up at the Opposite side of the pump Gary Cahill in a car park at Sunningdale did not realise how big he was Bob Wilson the old Arsenal goalkeeper at a Bookfair at Hatfield where we discussed how he saved a penalty at the Dell from Mickey Channon at the Dell many years ago Claus Lundevam at the Clump at Chilworth Served John Sydenham at the old Petrol Station on West End Road in Bitterne when I was teenager Was on an early train from London when a fellow passenger was Peter Osgood on his way to play at the Dell just after he joined the Saints
  3. In 1976 I saw us win the FA Cup with this team Ian Turner Peter Rodrigues David Peach Nick Holmes Mel Blyth Jim Steele Paul Gilchrist Mick Channon Peter Osgood Jim McCalliog Bobby Stokes and almost two years later at the Dell against Spurs we returned to Div 1 with this team Peter Wells Manny Andruszewski David Peach Steve Williams Chris Nicholl Malcolm Waldron Alan Ball Phil Boyer Ted MacDougall Nick Holmes Tony Funnell After winning the Cup Lawrie Mac dismantled the team got in a few proven older players and with a few home grown players got us promoted I know we are in a different age and players like Ball Boyer MacDougal are unlikely to come to St Mary's so I feel we should rebuild by getting rid of players who are not going to shine in the PL and transfer in players who may do. Of course we need some new younger players who are likely to perform well in the PL from the academy if possible. I know we have bought lots of young players recently, mostly it seemed to sell on, not to enhance our team for the length of their contract. We need a team that has the potential to stay in the PL like we did in 1978 and with Adkins team not so long ago I just do not feel that Flynn is PL player especially as his position in midfield is so key. It maybe wishful thinking of an old git but I am sure most of us do not wish to experience this seasons fiasco again.
  4. Why not he is unlikely ever be a decent PL player if we are to progress back to the PL we need better than him
  5. Zero?
  6. Not a fan I see but read this Rangers on verge of appointing Russell Martin as new manager - BBC Sport
  7. Unsupring really as outside Southampton he is thought to be a decent and articulate manager
  8. I thought Edwards and Abbott were our overseas players
  9. My mates non Saints supporters think Martin is a decent manager

    Will Still

I think the standard of the PL was the highest ever just look at Man U they had a decent squad put finished in a very low position
  12. Two Hampshire Players in Lions Squad England cricket: Chris Woakes to return in Lions matches against India A - BBC Sport
  13. If you agree about the first part why not tax the super rich in my case it has nothing to do with envy I
  14. We are still losing so what is your point
  15. I have been following the match on England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) - The Official Website of the ECB Over in three days at was made for seam bowlers and we won pretty easily although Albert and Fuller threw their wickets away in the second innings Despite the Fuller and Abbott getting the plaudits it was Middleton and Albert who helped us to victory eventually as scoring was not easy with the pitch having variable bounce with Brown and Dawson dismised with real wicket taking deliveries It was a great cricket wicket and we won pretty easily dropping catches especially in the slips did not help apparently Dawson does not want to field in the slips at the moment Back to the bowl at the weekend with probably the same team we know the team needs a couple of standout players but it is doing OK I feel
  16. You and so many others are fucking deluded and not particularly bright to succeed in the PL we need decent players how many do we have three or four and results have not improved since Martin left
  17. Yes you are right he got us promoted only to find the club was not able to get in a few decent players
  18. He bowled 5 overs for 20 in the second innings and is having problems adjusting to the Duke Ball
  19. But only two Hampshire born Very luckly to have seen 1959: RE Marshall & D Shackleton; 1969: BA Richards; 1974: PJ Sainsbury; 1975: AME Roberts; 1977: CG Greenidge; 1983: TE Jesty & MD Marshall; 1984: CL Smith; 1990: RA Smith; 2006: KP Pietersen; 2025: LA Dawson. With Barry Anderson and Malcolm Marshall the best Greenidge Richards R E Marshall RA Smith Pietersen Jesty Aymes Sainsbury M D Marshall Roberts Shackleton would be hell of a team
  20. England cricket trio Gus Atkinson, Jamie Smith and Sophie Ecclestone have been named among Wisden’s Cricketers of the Year, the prestigious annual prize awarded to top performers in the English summer. County stars Liam Dawson and Dan Worrall complete the five-strong list, an honour bestowed in the almanack since 1889 and which cricketers can only win once in their career.
  21. Clearly MLG you are wrong the point the poster is making is that the club has been buying young players players with a view to selling tham at a profit not to enhance the team like in the 1960s 1970s and 1980s when the team bought experienced players like David Webb Campbell Forsyth Ron Davies John McGrath Jimmy Gabriel Jimmy Melia etc etc
  22. Around 20 minutes plus stoppages left. Southampton just don't look like scoring I do not really care is that wrong Hampshire doing OK as usual
  23. I have a young brother who is sixteen years younger than me and my dad and I both right handers made him into a successful lefthander because of the amount of balls you get on their leg stump. He still plays today for Berkshire over Sixties
  24. I suggest you become a politician as you are spouting nonsense we have a really poor squad of players probably the worst I have seen whilst we have been in the top flight in the last 60 years
