I am not sure a £40m would want to come here I cannot even remember the club paying a really high amount of money for a proven PL player ever even Bertrand was relatively cheap In the past we had top class players coming through from our academy or were lucky buying cheap players like Mane Jrod VVD Clyne Wagnama? that CB that went to Liverpool and Tadic and Pelle through Koeman other teams are now doing this possibly paying more so we are left with the dregs
-
Can't ever see us being a stable successful club under any owner for some time we just do not have any top class players who would want to stay with us can you or join us either Nothing outstanding in the Academy apart from Dibling other PL clubs building steadily
-
I agree that SR have been a complete disaster but when they bought the club I felt we were indecline as we did not have any stand out players We had Tino but nobody else that I can remember who have gone on to shine else where JWP is now a bit player
-
Strangely when we start next August we will probably be in a better position than when we were in when I started following the Saints in 1960 minus of course Ted Bates and Terry Paine who led us to Div 1 and the start of 30 years exitement of an FA Cup win Football continues andmy neice and her boyfriend are happy with their visit to Grimsby for a 3 0 and my step granddaughter is happy with Reading and their rise to 6th in League 1 and Pompey lost . The PL has ruined football for me
-
I thought we had fitness coaches who monitored the condition of players
-
Put it another way who apart from Livramento KWP Ramsdale and probably Lavia who turned out to be consistent genuine PL players in the last few years. Also what PL players has the academy produced recently I think the answers to my questions and the selection of managers will prove why we are in the shit
-
Crushing the Championship is not the problem as the top three currently there were all playing in the PL last season or the previous one. The problem is getting top class players in to compete in the PL where currently the bottom three are teams which were in the Championship last season The general standard of the PL is much stronger than a few years ago with Villa Brighton Nottm Forest Bournemouth and Newcastle challenging for places in Europe and Fulham and Brentford proving to be good PL teams I just feel the days of us being a genuine PL club are over without a decent amount of money and a realistic transfer policy
-
Our failure every summer to sign any quality in the forward areas continues to hurt us.
-
He is probably one of the best batters I have seen play for Hampshire regularly over the last sixty years apart from Greenidge Richards and Robin Smith As good as Roy Marshall better than Jesty Turner Terry and Chris Smith
-
Vince scored 101 no in todays BBL giving Sydney Sixers their third straight win
-
Very true managers do not stay very long with us these days I wonder how long he will last
-
With good England International players Lallana Labert Jrod Clyne
-
Our players are pretty poor in comparison to others I have seen over the past fifty years and most of the other teams seem to in general better players with other teams having some outstanding ones so to me it pretty obvious we were on a hiding to nothing before the season started. If you disagree with me tell me who currently is a really class player even Nathan Redmond would shine in todays team
-
All matches are winnable if we had some decent players but we dont have many so I dont expect many points from these games
-
I agree but batting is still inconsistent and new bowler Baker conceeded 30 in two overs
-
Amazingly we won in super over
-
That is a possibilty of course but why would they be better with another style
-
Hardly Martin's fault if players are unable to pass accurately or make a telling pass with better players we would be doing a great deal better so the current ones need to improve for us to survive
-
But not many better ones this season
-
It is obvious we do not have the players to stay in the PL
-
They also have the best home produced players of any county club which is hardly surprising as they have so many top class club sides
-
Me too but only once as he was sold to Bournemouth and replaced with George Kirby such a gentleman off the pitch but quite the opposite on it I remember one time against Swansea George injured three players in quick succession and there was no one available to attend the third
-
Like the country SFC is fucked with the players we have there seems little chance of the club surviving long term in the PL due to awful transfer policy of the last few years. Not sure about the Academy either but with clubs like Chelsea hovering up talent here in Berkshire and in North Hampshire now what does it have of attracting top class talent
-
Yes I have been quite lucky to see some really good players Paul Rideout Colin Clarke Eigil Ostenstaad were other strikers who I feel were much better than any we have today
-
You must be joking you have no idea we have Archer and BBD as strikers I can assure your we have never had such poor ones in the last sixty years. Unlike you I have been very lucky to see good Saints Strikers like Ron Davies Martin Chivers Micky Channon Peter Osgood Phil Boyer Ted McDougal Steve Moran Keegan Alan Shearer Worthington Danny Wallace MLT Beattie Pharas and probably Lambert Mane Pelle I wont bore you with a list of creative players but I saw two world cup winning players Paine and Ball in Saints teams too
