  1. But still earns thousands every week I can’t defend for shit and do fuck all with the ball and I am on a measly pension
  2. Why the hell did we sign Baker ? Sonny is an exciting talent with the ability to bowl with genuine pace," said Hampshire director of cricket Giles White.
  3. I am not sure you are really suited to following cricket with a comment like that especially after Sonny getting four wickets last night. Having followed and watched first class cricket for over seventy years and played the game for over thirty I have seen the same players make stupid mistakes do outstanding things get a terrific delivery and bowl against a batsman who is in unbeatable form. That is cricket it is the players who make the fewer mistakes and ride their luck suceeed and I think Vince would have been a great player if he was a bit luckier and cut out some of his more rash strokes. He has been a great player for Hampshire but not as good as fellow Hampshire batsmen Robin Smith Gordon Greenidge David Gower and the best of all Barry Richards who is 80 this month and has a first class and test average of over 50. It was good to see him at the bowl late last month
  4. Surely Pahars should be in the 11
  5. Terry Paine did more for Southampton over the last sixty years getting us to Div 1 with Martin Chivers and getting a World Cup winners Medal. Martin was a fine player too better I think than Shearer and Lambert Most of the others performed well at other Clubs with Shilton Bale VVD and Keegan being outstanding Peter Osgood was a fantastic player until he broke his leg did not achieve much with the Saints except of course an FA Cupp winners medal
  6. Very true Dawson and Prest put on 50 in 35 mins and then the runs dried up even Westley bowled four overs without a boundary to the relief of the Essex fans
  7. Just returned from watching the game yesterday and today Middleton Brown Dawson and Milak played well
  8. No I thought the same as he practised at Lunchtime with Barker and Currie Barker looked good and he said he would be playing next month

He will only suceed if we get in decent players which the club has failed to do for the last seven or eight years thats the reality and without KWP THB Ramsdale and Fernandes the squad is not as good as the one which Martin promoted So lets wait and see what players are signed before speculating on what is going to happen in the coming season

Most managers end up being crap and I fully expect him to be sacked oneday probably within two years if we fail to get to the PL and in 2027 if we do not manage to get in some top class players and find ourselves in the PL The three managers we had this season had little chance of survival with our poor squad and the strength of other team squads not sure any of our players
  11. Totally agree but find the current odds on promotion about 2/1 rather baffling
  12. Harry Rednapp at Rownams Service Station he was filling up at the Opposite side of the pump Gary Cahill in a car park at Sunningdale did not realise how big he was Bob Wilson the old Arsenal goalkeeper at a Bookfair at Hatfield where we discussed how he saved a penalty at the Dell from Mickey Channon at the Dell many years ago Claus Lundevam at the Clump at Chilworth Served John Sydenham at the old Petrol Station on West End Road in Bitterne when I was teenager Was on an early train from London when a fellow passenger was Peter Osgood on his way to play at the Dell just after he joined the Saints
  13. In 1976 I saw us win the FA Cup with this team Ian Turner Peter Rodrigues David Peach Nick Holmes Mel Blyth Jim Steele Paul Gilchrist Mick Channon Peter Osgood Jim McCalliog Bobby Stokes and almost two years later at the Dell against Spurs we returned to Div 1 with this team Peter Wells Manny Andruszewski David Peach Steve Williams Chris Nicholl Malcolm Waldron Alan Ball Phil Boyer Ted MacDougall Nick Holmes Tony Funnell After winning the Cup Lawrie Mac dismantled the team got in a few proven older players and with a few home grown players got us promoted I know we are in a different age and players like Ball Boyer MacDougal are unlikely to come to St Mary's so I feel we should rebuild by getting rid of players who are not going to shine in the PL and transfer in players who may do. Of course we need some new younger players who are likely to perform well in the PL from the academy if possible. I know we have bought lots of young players recently, mostly it seemed to sell on, not to enhance our team for the length of their contract. We need a team that has the potential to stay in the PL like we did in 1978 and with Adkins team not so long ago I just do not feel that Flynn is PL player especially as his position in midfield is so key. It maybe wishful thinking of an old git but I am sure most of us do not wish to experience this seasons fiasco again.
  14. Why not he is unlikely ever be a decent PL player if we are to progress back to the PL we need better than him
  15. Zero?
  16. Not a fan I see but read this Rangers on verge of appointing Russell Martin as new manager - BBC Sport
  17. Unsupring really as outside Southampton he is thought to be a decent and articulate manager
  18. I thought Edwards and Abbott were our overseas players
  19. My mates non Saints supporters think Martin is a decent manager

I think the standard of the PL was the highest ever just look at Man U they had a decent squad put finished in a very low position
  22. Two Hampshire Players in Lions Squad England cricket: Chris Woakes to return in Lions matches against India A - BBC Sport
  23. If you agree about the first part why not tax the super rich in my case it has nothing to do with envy I
  24. We are still losing so what is your point
  25. I have been following the match on England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) - The Official Website of the ECB Over in three days at was made for seam bowlers and we won pretty easily although Albert and Fuller threw their wickets away in the second innings Despite the Fuller and Abbott getting the plaudits it was Middleton and Albert who helped us to victory eventually as scoring was not easy with the pitch having variable bounce with Brown and Dawson dismised with real wicket taking deliveries It was a great cricket wicket and we won pretty easily dropping catches especially in the slips did not help apparently Dawson does not want to field in the slips at the moment Back to the bowl at the weekend with probably the same team we know the team needs a couple of standout players but it is doing OK I feel
