Chance of a signing before the loan window closes?
John B replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
Yes very true . Perhaps a CB and Striker -
I dont think you understood FF's post he was like me complaining about the spin being put on our good results. Nearly everyone is really happy about the results but some of the comments relating to them are becoming boring to some people
-
Very interesting point. I think perhaps we should just try and win as many games as possible

I must admit I have no idea what ML and NC are like as well as other football club owners. So I dont know what their plans are with regard to future sales of football players and their wages but paying excessive wages to players in comparison to others does not seem a recipe for success. With the advent of agents it seems very difficult for talented players to stay with the smaller clubs as in years gone by . To succeed internationally most players have to move to the top clubs and get involved in European Football so realistically we like nearly all of the others will probably be a selling club for the forseeable future. With regard to Lallana I would really be interested in his contractual status which I thought ended in 2011 if it does not end then the rest of the post is meaningless. If it ends in 2011 can he move clubs with no transfer fee being involved or would SFC receive compensation. If he does want to stay what is the reason for not extending his contract now and increasing his wages? I he wont sign another contract and wants to leave when is the best time for SFC to sell him

There is the general impression I would have thought on the Forum but not in this thread perhaps that 76 points will see us to the play offs. As Posted Originally Posted by ChrisPY Last 5 years the following averages were required to achieve each position. 1st - 85.2 2nd - 82 6th - 71.8 12th - 61.2 20th - 49.8 There are 28 games remaining. Saints need approx. the following ammount of points. 1st - 69.2 (2.5 per game) 2nd - 66 (2.4 per game) 6th - 55.8 (2 per game) 12th - 45.2 (1.6 per game) 20th - 33.8 (1.2 per game) 1st - Win 21 Draw 6 Lose 1 2nd - Win 20 Draw 6 Lose 2 6th - Win 17 Draw 5 Lose 6 12th - Win 13 Draw 6 Lose 9 20th - Win 9 Draw 7 Lose 12 Last 10 League Games Won 5 Drawn 3 Lost 2. If that form continues we will gain 14 Wins 8 Draws 6 Losses and 50 points We'll then finish somewhere between 6th and 12th which will be a good achievement IMO considering the points deduction and the lack of pre season affecting the start of the season. It may well do but it may not

I wonder why?

2018 World Cup bid - Time for Saints to step in
John B replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
I dont think Rupert Lowe would have not wanted the World Cup to be staged at his Stadium perhaps there were other reasons why Southampton was not chosen but of course you maybe correct. The Capacity perhaps may have been a problem especially as Portsmouth were apparently at the time due to build a new stadium After all the Rugby world Cup is a possibility at St Mary's. -
Perhaps biased is not the correct to get meaningful statistical results you need to have figures over as long a time as possible For instance over the last ten years The Points needed to reach 6th place is 76 08/09 76 07/08 75 06/07 71 05/06 71 04/05 73 03/04 81 02/03 78 01/02 75 00/01 82 99/00 AVG 75.8 where as over five years is less. Also there is no analysis of how other clubs are doing and based on the season so far what the likely points figure for 6th position is
-
I am very happy with the results over the last couple of months, I am not happy with the statisticall analysis which I feel is biased. Of course I would like to see us get to the play offs but we are further away from them now than we were at the beginning of the season

Chance of a signing before the loan window closes?
John B replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
I totally agree with you but I thought this thread was about getting in loans before the window closes tonight. I cant see the point of that as it is unlikely that many decent players will be available but yes in the Window I would expect us to get in players. -

I dont disagree with but football injuries and suspensions disrupt teams. Well managed teams overcome problems better than others. Getting Loan players to cover injuries is mostly a lottery really -

Like most other teams perhaps? -

That is ridiculous - he should plan for injuries that is the point of a squad. For goodness sake we are only in League 1 and have a large staff compared with other teams -
Unlikely but after the 3 1 Victory it still could happen but we want teams like these to lose or draw as many games as possible Huddersfield MK Dons Swindon Bristol Rovers Walsall Millwall
-
I dont disagree with what you are saying but to succeed we must beat the top teams which we have yet to do regularly for a number of reasons.
-
Yes but I thought he was a non playing member of the playing staff:confused:
-
Just concerned a little that we dont seem to beat the teams at the top of League which Nick Gs stats never seem to take into account
-
I agree we are a good team but we have not beaten many clubs in the top 10 which is the only worrying point for me 1 Leeds United 17 25 42 2 Charlton 18 15 36 3 Colchester 18 15 33 4 Norwich 18 13 32 5 Huddersfield 18 19 30 6 MK Dons 18 -1 29 7 Swindon 17 1 28 8 Bristol Rovers 18 -3 28 9 Walsall 18 4 27 10 Millwall 18 8 26 Let hope we can beat Walsall

It would be good if Davis never played for us again if Bart proved to be a n outstanding goalkeeper during the next few weeks. Relatively easy games against Northampton and Wycombe coming up for Bart to gain confidence
-
In the period up to January I think we are OK for CBs but I think we should buy a good one then. However there is no real backup for Lambert in the short term and there would have been a problem if instead of Davis he had been injured
-
Best Win of the season I think although the first one was not bad either

Eric?
