  1. Final score 2-3
  2. Blimey I have seen far worse comedians than him, at least 2 who didn't make it more than 10 minutes into their set . He was mildly humourous at least. Lots of rumours flying about re Charlie Austin buying a pad at Hythe Marina. Ergo 2+2 = 5 and he is on his way despite Ronald's rebuttal. Ronald said that pre season transfers of Clyne and Morgan were big losses which perhaps suggests that their replacements haven't lived up to expectations which for £11m cost versus £37m income is probably to be expected Have to say that the catering at the De Vere continues to be poor (only noticed 3 or 4 tables occupied in the main restaurant which shows they still struggle to get guests to eat there) The veggie option on the evening 'do' main course probably cost less than 50p a head for ingredients
  3. Didn't McInnes 'Guarantee' promotion under the current manager? Recollect that he also indicated they were expecting to sign Rueben Reid from Plymouth That doesn't seem to have worked!!
  4. I would like to agree with you re Stephens but the fact that he has rarely played for Middlesbrough in the Championship suggests he wouldn't be up to Prem standard atm

    Yoshida

Agree that Yoshi is not a suitable RB but neither, so it seems is Martina He can't deny responsibility for City's first goal or the mistake v Utd However he wasn't given much protection from whoever was playing right side of midfield on Saturday We do need to look at improving cover at RB in January
  6. Presumably playing against Pompey tomorrow
  7. Haven't the parachute payments already gone?
  8. I am sure Garth Crooks is a decent fella but certainly seems to have put a shed load of weight on since his playing days if his appearance on tonights FA Cup draw is anything to go on
  9. Can anyone advise how much the booking fee if purchase is made over the phone Is the fee per ticket or per booking (looking to book 4)? Is booking fee the same over the phone as via the internet?
  10. Still Pompey remain (just) above the mighty Accrington Stanley!!
  11. According to the Saints reference book , Jim Steele was 6', Docker Walker 5'11" and Jimmy Gabriel 5'10" I think the 6' 2 Eyes of Blue was nicked off Man Utd who sang it to describe their centre half of the time Jim Holden, if I recollect correctly.
  12. Village Interesting comparison including Jimmy Steele, Docker Walker and Jimmy Gabriel (the latter I had the honour of playing with a couple of times and also watching him play in his prime as an Everton player) I have a lot of time for all three players but, to be fair, Jimmy Steele and Docker didn't play too many games for Saints at the top level as far as I recollect (I should really check) and Jimmy Gabriel was past his best when he came to us (but still a good player) and often played in midfield It is so difficult to make comparisons with different era's but one point I would make is the relative size of central defenders nowadays ie well over 6' whilst both Jim and Docker were around the 6' mark and Gabby around 5'10" Interesting comparison on size when you consider that Tony Godfey our 'keeper in the 60's was only 5' 8"
  13. When John O'Sullivan was Commercial Manager at St Mary's he reckoned that summer concerts would be a regular event at St Mary's As far as I remember there have only been two ie Elton John and Bon Jovi It seems that Hants CC have taken up the opportunity which is possibly a better alternative to St Mary's as I recollect that dear old Claus had to pay a six figure sum to relay the pitch to ensure his testimonial v Celtic could go ahead. Just wonder what the general opinion is of concerts at St Marys and whether there is too much of a risk of damage to the pristine pitch we have
  14. Lets be clear on this There was no mythical dock strike apart from Pompey Dockers 'Blacklegging' over Cross Channel Ferries in November 1976 when a large party of Soton Dockies blockaded Portsmouth Commercial Docks The term 'Scum' has supposedly been used by the navy to describe Merchant Seamen but this is very unlikely to have any impact on Pompey supporters using the term to describe Saints fans. I believe this was a random term of distaste used by one or two Pompey fans and then cascaded out and actually reflects the term used by quite a few clubs towards their rivals There is some suggestion that it may have started after the death or serious injury of a Pompey fan on Fareham station following an attack by some Saints fans back in the mid 1960's but this is just heresay
  15. Understand that Morgan was paid a 'loyalty' bonus of around £1m to stay another year Not a bad sum to assuage disappointment
  16. Nice analogy
  17. Heard last night that the police are taking a bit more interest in this game due to 'intelligence' from the Bournemouth end. Hope this is not the case but an idea to be cautious for those who don't want to be caught up in any disturbance
  18. David There were originally 47 Boxes each holding 10 people However there is at least one conversion ie combining two into one (Sadio Mane and two friends were sat in one last night) I think only about 10 -12 boxes are sold so potentially 370 unsold seats each game The Mick Channon suite has a capacity of 500 which was probably not sold out last night plus at least one other smaller suite Plus there is the row of segregation seats between the fans, normally a few hundred, and there always seem to be a smattering of 4 or more seats together which never seem to be occupied
  19. Interesting statistic 10.9m guns were produced in the US in 2013 compared to 5.6m in 2009 Apparently the upsurge in production was due to widespread belief that President Obama is looking to ban most, if not all, firearms.
  20. That is a very relevant point However the Times article worked out their ratios on the number of games in which there was a result ie draws have been discounted So of the 32 league derby games, Saints have won 14 and their less successful derby game opponents have only won 8, hence the 63.6% figure Sounds a bit better than 50%. However using the same calculation that lot down the road have only won less than 1 in 4 of all derby games.
  21. There was an interesting table in the Times yesterday focussing on the Tyne/Wear derby which, after the result on Sunday, became the joint second closest of the 16 England's main derbies along with WBA and Wolves. At the top end of the table Saints have the best proportionate advantage over their local rival with a win percentage of 63.6% This ratio increases to 69.8% if Cup games are added to League games For the record our overall record against our traditional rivals is: P 38 W 19 D 10 L 9 F 69 A 48 The head to head record in the early days of the Southern League also favours the Saints but these results have not been included as they are not considered to be 'First Class' matches.
  22. Hope I am wrong but think Sam G will struggle to make it at the top level but there is no reason why he can't make a decent living out of football especially as he is still young and should mature and, hopefully, put injury and family tragedy behind him. Not quite sure why he was played out wide for the U21's but from that position he scored one of the best goals seen at St Mary's against Blackburn last season
  23. Any one still awaiting a ticket thro the post for this one Mine supposed to have been posted last week but yet to arrive
  24. At least he turned out in club colours which is more than be said of Tommy Forecast or Anthony Pulis

    Venice

Interesting that you were able to get a room at £100 per night I think the tariff starts from at least double that in busier times Saw the building from a cruise ship as it looked very impressive. Looked up the history of the building which started out as a grain store as well as a place where canal boats were built One of the original owners (Stuckey's?) was murdered near by
