  1. Thanks for all who responded Can anyone remember a game recently: 1. When no additional time was played? 2. Obstruction Free Kick was awarded? 3. Keeper was penalised for the 6 second rule?
  2. Good spot Ironically the home results are exactly the same as the away ie W 7 D 5 L 4 Meanwhile there is some suggestion that Sepp Blatter may be looking to continue his crusade to help football in under developed areas of the world and Pompey is high on his list
  3. Cat. We should all blame you for the recent run of miserable results at Fratton Park Saints League/Cup record at Fratton is P 16 W 7 D 5 L 4 F 24 A 20 in comparison the results at home are P 16 W 5 D 5 L 4 F 32 A 22
  4. Appreciate advice please on current rules: 1. Is it now obligatory to play additional time after each half even if there were no interruptions in play? 2. Presume the Ref doesn't stop the watch when subs are made hence the slow trot off by players on the winning side? 3. Is 'Obstruction' no longer in the rule book? 4. Ditto 'Foul Throw', especially when the ball is not thrown correctly from behind the head? 5. Is the 'Six Second' rule, as applicable to Goal keepers still extant? 6. Are there any hand ball rules now applying to 'keepers who place their feet or hands outside the penalty area when kicking out of hand.
  5. There are some of us who are both over 60 and mentally challenged and have no interest in Facebooking or Twitering Guilty as charged M'Lud!! However I can still do simple maths in my head quicker than a lot of youngsters can do with a calculator. I'm really impressive at Supermarket Tills!!
  6. Breaking news on the Beeb There was a break - in overnight at the FIFA HQ in Zurich and the results of the 2026 and 2030 World Cup venues have been stolen!!
  7. All may not be lost Liverpool only want to sign players from Saints with a surname starting with L So Nat has to convince his Mum that in future he will be known as Nathaniel C Lyne
  8. This is a good point However at least half our side have played or been in the first team squad. I wonder how many City youngsters get a sniff of first team action
  9. Agree with all these comments especially re Hesketh Dont have the information to hand but would be interesting to see what changed in the respective line ups from Saturday when we apparently won 2-0 at City It appears that the City team playing last night was a lot younger than ours with one 16 year old, as was the case when we played Blackburn in the U 21 Cup Final In the early stages, when we were playing well, I was wondering how the U21's would fare against a League 2 side but, as the game went on I realised that, whilst players at this level have good individual skills, they would suffer against the physicality of the lower league teams
  10. Seems like yesterday At least MLG had a much better send off than Stevie G's last game As has been said many times before, no one could have written the script better for the winning goal v Arsenal Can vividly remember the crowd's reaction to Matts goal and the subsequent friendly with Brighton and my last visit for the celebration dinner on the pitch and wandering round after sitting on the deserted terraces trying to memorise my last views of the old ground. It is strange to think there there are many younger supporters who have no recollection of going to the Dell and/or watching MLT play
  11. Good resume I initially thought we would run away with the game Man City looked all over the place defensively and we created a number of early chances including a great move which saw a Lloyd Isgrove shot cannon off the base of the upright After that the good start and a goal against the run of play, the team performance degenerated and flaws in individual performances became quite evident. Even Harrison Reed and Matt Targett failed to show why they are first team material Hopefully this was a one off but on last nights performance, quite a few of the prospects seemed a fair distance from first team selection. And it was very cold sat watching after the sun went down!!
  12. Villa squad at De Vere Meanwhille Ms Liebherr and a group of friends were dining in Oxford Street at a restaurant often frequented by Ronald Koeman and his family. I reckon that both parties must appreciate the laid back style of life in Southampton where they seem to be able to enjoy their social lives without undue pressure from the hoi polloi (ie you and me) This must be in stark contrast to other places in the world where owners and managers are likely to be subject to intrusions when out in public. I am sure they must appreciate this. Worrying thing is that Kat had to have a whip round to pay the bill. Seems like the transfer budget may be less than expected next year!!!!!
  13. Understand that Portsea Island sits on seven flood zones and there is a tender out at the moment to shore up the embankment around one of the two main routes into the city (Eastern Approaches I think) to prevent future flooding There are also issues around the Western Approach (by Harry Pounds old scrapyard) as the Navy has regularly dumped loads of rubbish, including asbestos, paint, mercury and loads of other nasties and there is a plan to dump aggregate and soil to effectively bury the crap. I spoke to someone who's company had been approached to tender for part of the job. He said they weren't interested and would prefer to let Portsea Island sink!! And I am pretty sure he is not a Saints fan!!!!
  14. Interesting to catch up on this thread well down the road I am possibly the only one on here who has actually met Sarnia Saint from our days on the school bus, playing kick about football on Sarisbury Green during the lighter evenings and travelling to quite a few away games with a group of lads back in the mid 60's. Happy days He was a good lad with a ready smile if anyone is interested. Mind you we all were at a School where the majority of fellow pupils supported a team now languishing in the lower reaches of the Football league, so that probably scarred us for life!!
  15. Presumably he has as he was interviewed at a Golf Club recently (presumably after playing the odd hole or two) or.... he is waiting for an NHS appointment or .... he didn't really need the operation rather like the claimed inability to use modern phone and computer technology. I still think it is a real injustice that the Pompey News' campaign to get Henry Redknapp a knighthood, supported by the great unwashed of Portsea Island, never materialised
  16. Much as I want Saints to finish as high as possible, the relatively low earnings from the Europa league set against possible repercussions in League form and cost of improving squad makes me wonder if qualification would be beneficial for the club
  17. An old pal of mine, Duncan Campbell, who used to be bass player with the Mojos, lived (and still does I think) in Tenerife at the time. He told me that he followed the game on the World Service and celebrated wildly at the final whistle, and for some time after, which caused a lot of head shaking by the locals in Puerto de la Cruz!!
  18. Many thanks to all who have contributed to this thread although there does seem to be some conflicting views. Picking up on Benji's post is it actually correct that, if the worst happened and my lad was pursued to the Small Claims Court, then there is no cost to him? If so he is basically looking at a cost differential of £40 ie the cost of paying £60 now to get the matter resolved or not settling and risking the 'late payment' cost of £100. Is it correct that, even if the case was taken to court, the additional £40 could be disputed as it quite a hike on the original 'invoice' amount or would the argument be that the 'invoice' was actually £100 but reduced to £60 for early settlement? I wonder how many people would pay up if the 'fine' was £10 -£20 or something similar. I would have suggested that to my boy. It is just the scale of the fine that irritates me
  19. Wonder if anyone has had first hand experience of dealing with a parking ticket from Parking Eye at Leisure World? My lad has received a ticket (didnt see the signs - his fault) Normally I would suggest ignoring the 'invoice' but the signs are clear and I understand the rules may have changed recently which may make it a more sensible option to pay up Any advice welcomed
  20. Me too!! One of the best weekends in my life Most of us went into the game with very low expectation of a win. Just getting to watch Saints at Wembley (when the FA Cup Final really was THE event of the year) was a major event for those of us brought up watching Saints in the old Third Division. Man Utd were a top side with lots of talented youngsters Some pundits were forecasting a 6-0 defeat. So for little old Southampton to come away with a win against all the odds made victory so much sweeter Myself and a girlfriend went camping in the South of France later in the year and so many people commented on my Saints pennant in the car In Bordeaux some one wrote 'Sir Michael de Channon is King' on my dusty back window Will never forget 1976!!!!!
  21. First of all 'Well done Bournemouth' A fantastic achievement and done the right way. I reckon, with a couple of quality upgrades, they should be more than capable of holding their own next season. Just hope we can maintain our 'bragging rights' As far as I can make out Bournemouth have only finished ahead of us in 2 seasons since we first entered the League in 1920/21. It is interesting to reflect back on an early season friendly, when our scratch side (with Boruc in goal and Jos at the back) had a relatively comfortable 1-0 win over the Cherries. We looked like a team just capable of beating the drop whilst Bournemouth's performance resembled a comfortable mid Championship team - nothing more!! How time have changed.
  22. Had to work in the morning Managed to wangle an early release and drove up to London with my mate Steve Can't remember where we parked but sat in stand opposite the Multi deck Four lads turned up in the seats in front of us just before KO They had obviously been on the juice and one slept right through the game only coming round after the final whistle when we were all celebrating the win Remember driving home and seeing a Saints fan on a bike cycling (presumably home) around the Wimbledon area Great day in a wonderful summer
  23. Remember Bill from the days I played in the Saints 'A' and 'B' sides in the Hampshire League He was involved in the management of the teams with Bill Stroud and Hughie Barnard. Decent man
