    Trident

Question is, when Scotland get independence and, bearing in mind all bar one of their MP's voted against renewal of Trident, where will the home base be located when Mrs Krankie kicks out the subs?
  2. Wonder if the 'Fratton Faithful' realise that Paul Doswell, the Manager of Sutton Utd, is a big Saints fan Last time I saw him was in the St Marys Megastore where he was buying a load of flags and scarves etc for him and his family prior to the JPT final I wonder if the cry of 'Scummer' echoed round the Sutton Utd ground earlier this week?
  3. Bearing in mind that at least 20% of spectators at St Marys stand throughout the game, it seems sensible to consider the safe standing option. However unless this increases capacity (which I think it may do based on the German model) the ticket price is likely to remain the same
  4. I doubt if our U21's would beat a full mid/upper table L2 side but it would be really embarrassing if they did. Undoubtedly the game would be classed as a 'First Team Fixture' and potentially reduce our win ratio (the best of any English derby games) if we were to lose_ Could also imagine a decent sized away following turning up at SMS as a 'badge of honour' to make their presence felt in a sub 10,000 crowd I doubt if too many Saints fans would turn up at Fratton Park if the game was there
  5. I wonder how many of the 22-24,000 ticket holders will put the sticker in the car? I used to have a pennant in my (oldish) car for many years when I was younger and used to drive around the country quite a lot and never had a problem, even down in Pompey. Now that I have a decent car I would be rather more concerned about the consequences of someone taking exception to the sticker on display.
  6. Very impressed with his interview and hopefully will be a good signing Some suggestion that he lacks pace but can't have it all for £12m I suppose
  7. No McCarthy or Gape? Is former with Walsall on loan?
  8. Notice that will all their 'new' money, the local Liverpool Council (who are regularly moaning about the lack of Government money to pay for essential services) have bought Everton's Finch Farm training ground and are now investing £13m in an upgraded mini stadium to house their Under 21 games
  9. I sorry to say I have to agree with your comment
  10. I went there many years ago on a school trip. A seagull shat on my school cap on the Great Ormes Head (if I remember the name of the hill correctly)
  11. You have got to say that regularly selling between 9-11,000 season tickets each year is a decent effort However I guess this is partly due to the continued level of support Pompey enjoy (fair play to them for this) but also the low cost of the season ticket. Bradford City enjoyed the same arrangements before they finally escaped from League 2
  12. As you might expect the Liverpool Echo are creaming themselves over the reply!!!
  13. I see what you are saying here However most/all of the cities mentioned have received shed loads of investment, mainly from the EU, to pump prime upgrades of their city centres. Liverpool, as an example, has received (and will continue to receive for the next year or so) Objective One EU finding which exceeds £1 billion A small proportion of this would have aided Southampton significantly
  14. Liverpool Echo are speculating that Everton are interested in Pelle but baulking at the £20m price tag Saints have put on him
  15. Going back to the 70's, Roger Fry and Terry Spinner left Saints to play for Walsall
  16. Interesting to see that the Liverpool Echo is running a story about a plague of flies in Everton Co - incidental or what?
  17. I think he was suffering from prostrate cancer Unlikely to be caused by playing football
  18. I felt very sorry for the Pompey fan who ended up badly injured in Marseilles I still do and would have been happy to donate money to the fund raising that is underway Whilst enjoying a bit of banter with Pompey fans I would not wish any decent Pompey fan any harm. However there are suggestions that the chap in question has boasted on Twitter about his past association with the 657 crew. This is uncorroborated at the moment but perhaps would change my view of things if proved to me correct. Having said that being assaulted with an iron bar, which seems to be the case, is cowardly in the extreme.
  19. It seems to me that because we basically developed mob behaviour at football games, English fans are seen as the 'benchmark' for hooligan behaviour even though banning orders and introduction of family groups have generally made our fans a more passive lot. However some of the jingoistic songs and disrespecting other teams anthems by some do little to endear our fans to others Basically we are now well down the 'Hooligan' League and any fan going abroad nowadays is likely to be a victim rather than a protagonist, especially when easily recognised as being English. Unfortunately, as English football fans, we are collectively falling foul of what went on 20 or more years ago.
  20. Agree about the intrigue FWIW I reckon that the sticking point is disagreement over our requirement for Everton not poaching our players, as has been mentioned by well placed posters. There may be some issue about the Fitness Coach's position too eg does he really want to go
  21. Odd one this On my car radio I listen fairly regularly to Radio 5 Live on 909 AM Recently whenever I am in the Lordswood/Lordshill area the station automatically changes to the Traffic Announcement mode and a repetitive piece of 'music' plays under the Global Radio banner. Understand Global Radio is the operating company for Heart, Smooth and Capital stations Interested if anyone has a (sensible!!) explanation Thanks
  22. I wonder how many English fans (or indeed those from other western countries) would be keen to venture into Russia for the next World Cup after the problems in Marseilles Whilst appreciating that our own fans have not covered ourselves in glory over the years, it seems the Russian hooligans have taken violence up to another level and may well enjoy a degree of support in relation to their actions from the Russian Press and indeed those in public office. Added to the 'dirty deals' stories which abound about Russia 'buying' their World Cup award, I reckon the number of foreign fans going to the 2018 tournament (especially from European and non white countries) will be significantly reduced.
  23. I wonder how this line up would do against lower league opposition and whether some of the players mentioned would actually be permitted within our U21 team, presuming all would be available (ie not out on loan) Gazza Mc Carthy Stephens Turnbull Targett Reed Hesketh Ward Prowse Isgrove/McQueen Gallagher Seager I guess our footballing ability would be better but interesting to know whether the lads would have the attributes to deal with the physical demands of lower leagues
  24. Thank you for the advice
