  1. Not that good on a global scale I meant of course. I really doubt if he will be our number 1 striker at kick off on opening day. Could do a job if he's moved back into the advanced midfield role though.
  2. he's one to talk, his performance at his last works Xmas bash was not of the highest standard.
  3. but on those criteria Lampard should be England's striker as well. Woy doesn't count penalties when he's giving out the shirts though But I'm sure that if you take away the penalties Defoe,Rooney,Welbeck,Sturridge and Walcott is about right even on the goals scored basis, may be even Le Fondre as well.
  4. Decathlon home brand 9 €95, slap on a Grey Goose or whatever and you're made
  5. well I counted up the British players in PL starting 11s on the last day of the season the other day and some of those could be wrong if there are Irish,Barbadians,Americans,Australians etc that sound if they could be British cos I didn't check. so we had Chelsea 3,Liverpool 5,Citeh 5,Newcastle 2,Saints 8,Swansea 5,Everton 5,QPR 6,Norwich 10,Arsenal 3,Stoke 8,Fulham 2 (yes two)Spurs 6, Sunderland 7 West Brom 8,Man U 4 West Ham 6 Reading 8. Didn't count Villa or Wigan So no top 4 team even had half of their starting 11 as British players let alone coming through their academy.
  6. Continual strains are often a sign of poor living standards.
  7. no it's Defoe,Sturridge,Welbeck,Rooney and Walcott, all far better players than Rickie Lambert will ever be. He really isn't that good. JRod stands a far better chance of an eventual England call up and it isn't likely to be anywhere in the near future.
  8. to be honest I doubt that any player at Benfica would be too expensive for Saints if we really wanted to acquire him.
  9. Excellent young left back yes, good in the tackle, good positioning, quick going forward. that said he was part of a very good side that had few weaknesses so it's easier to concentrate on just your own role. Didn't get injured it was an automobile accident on the way home from Portsmouth at night I think. Their just wasn't much personal discipline in football in those days. Think he tried to make some sort of comeback but it didn't work out at all well and then he got sick but whether that was a result of the accident or not I just don't remember (if i ever knew in the first place). s
  10. We could let them have Lallana, apparently he's just what you need to get into the CL, 20 million and he's their's.
  11. sounds like the next Lee Holmes.
  12. basketball probably.
  13. half of his current side are Spanish or Dutch anyway aren't they ? Not a lot of home grown talent at Swansea.
  14. unsurprising it's just for one match where we will probably play a single striker anyway, Walcott can do the job if necessary. Lambert isn't England standard and neither are any of the younger lads which is probably why Gomez and Lewandoski are worth their weight in gold bars because with the German systems you could be roughly assured that they'd make the grade in the PL, something which is never certain with Italians and Spaniards..
  15. but when you're still in your winter clothes at the end of May in Europe it's not such a bad place after all. My Dad used to spend nearly all of his winters there after he retired. Mum hated it though, too hot and too much riff-raff
  16. Roughly the same as Laudrup then, he went to watch them (or one of their players no doubt) met their president and suddenly it's being reported that he'd been offered the job which his agent quickly denied. Now he's trying to get some serious cash out of his own chairman and probably won't hesitate to use his "Benfica Job Card". But Benfica want to reduce Jorge Jesus's salary from 4 million euros gross(including bonuses) to a more reasonable 2 million or so and won't hesitate to use their "We've got a couple of top lads on tap for the Job Card" and as he's out of contract in June who knows how it will turn out but in theory he should stay there because Malaga apart all of the top jobs are now closed. Happens all of the time like this in academia you know.
  17. we have Lallana, he's done nothing this season, part of the problem rather than part of the solution. If we had a player better in front of goal than lallana we'd already be several places higher. Has grotesquely muffed chances that another might well not, chances that would have gained us points if they'd fallen to a clinical finisher.
  18. it's not an odd move because it doesn't exist.
  19. won't get more cash at Benfica than he does at Saints then
  20. perhaps it's just a manoeuvre to endear him to saints fans after saying he couldn't see much point in staying if Nicola was gone. Managers buy into a project nowadays and if the project disappears they usually have other projects to consider. It's about being all you can be, which is no doubt why Gareth Bale is willing to consider a move to a "top club". It's something many fans don't seem to want to understand, players and managers want to win and attain the maximum level possible. Don't know if the employment market permits it much nowadays but I've changed jobs on occasions for a bit more prestige and a bit more status, most people would if they're in a position to do so.
  21. MP does speak English, he gave his early interviews in English when he was at PSG, not great but as they were translated anyway they made sense to the French. He probably knows that the English tabloids are always on the lookout for faux-pas so preferred to work with an interpreter at first.
  22. Apparently Laudrup has been linked with Benfica as well, just because he went to one of their games and met the president afterwards. Yet Benfica have a coach in place and there aren't many rumours about him going anywhere. Malaga could be a destination for him I suppose but that's about the last place to be filled in the managers roundabout (top level of course) so far. Mourinho to Chelsea, Ancelotti to Madrid,Leonardo takes over at Paris as long as he doesn't get a year's suspension for jostling a ref in the tunnel, circuit closed. Mazzari to Inter, Benitez to Naples circuit closed. Heynkes retires Guardiola comes back into the circuit, dead end,SAF retires Moyes replaces him and is replaced by Martinez who's side were relegated and there's no way he's going to coach in the NPC..circuit closed. Pellegrini to City ..someone needed at Malaga and that's about it but Mancini is still available and will be a candidate anywhere there's a top job available..
  23. Well apparently Laudrup's got a big rendez vous with his Chairman coming up soon, all does not seem to be so rosy as it would appear.
  24. I didn't, never accept "friend requests".
  25. New allegations appearing in Marca today, concerns some Liga sides apparently.
