  1. You'd think so wouldn't you. Mind you I had a research assistant once who had a "back problem". Must have visited loads of docs to get sick notes and not one of them ever found the real cause (if indeed there was one). Back problems, the leadswingers fallback.
  2. How many of the France 2018 group play in the lower bastions of Ligue 1 ? None at all is the answer. In fact none of them play for a club outside of the Top 4. This is normal because of the vast gulf in annual budgets. Dijon's annual budget is a couple of million more than we wasted on Carrillo. So they and their other 15 Ligue 1 also rans can never keep hold of a decent player because they just can't pay enough. France produces some excellent footballers, most of them of African descent these days but they can't keep them in France.
  3. Unless he's so set on going that he'll be totally useless to us in any case. I've seen his attitude questioned before, probably when he wanted to leave the O.M.
  4. Why would they want to do that then ? PSG are going to make a big pitch for Kante, don't know if they'll be successful, probably not but they'll need to keep Drinkwater around for the time being.
  5. Rennes came 5th and are in Europe, Lamouchi is a wise old owl. Think they start their qualification games soon. Saw some of that game. Everton are just way too offensive with Silva and when the oppo has speedy african wingers it's just asking for trouble. Baines and Coleman don't seem to defend any more and with a 2-1-1-4-2 system that they seem to have it's just asking for trouble. Doubt if Silva will last very long, maybe just a month or two.
  6. Oh really, when will that be then? He will have good games and atrocious games, same as he has done up until now.
  7. No, I'm just not a fan of the bog average Ligue 1. Everybody knows that, I've seen it degraded little by little every year due to pure lack of money and now it's what I say it is, absolute rubbish below the 8th or 9th place. When I first came here I went to games every week. then a couple of time a month and then I got fed up paying a decent amount of money to watch public rec football.
  8. You can judge Dijon without ever seeing them play anywhere at all. they are rank awful. A substandard side who should not be in a top division anywhere, then again neither should any of the 9 teams that finished below them last season. All the really decent french players either play for a foreign side, PSG, Lyon,Monaco or Marseille (and then some). The rest are just a step above public rec standard really.
  9. Not looking too good is praise indeed for them. They are just rank awful and the fact that they were mid table in Ligue 1 last season is an indication of just what a mess that league is.
  10. Only losing 2-0 would be a good result for them. Once again they have deluded fans.
  11. Thing is those were the days when unfashionable clubs could still attract the odd top player. Now if you're not in Europe and not likely to win anything you're just consigned to rooting about in the expensive maybe/maybe not dross bucket. Football has changed because there is so much money washing about that top clubs throught Europe can now just hoover up any player who looks half decent. They don't need them but they don't need anyone else to have them either.
  12. Got a buyer lined up has he?
  13. They're not even going to Dijon. Going to Evian, playing at Divonne les Bains. Obviously the work experience kid they let write the article isn't too au fait with anything much.
  14. think he meant Hull.
  15. Think so, I remember him being on the pitch a at the time of the 2015 bombings so that would have been on 13th November thus after he moved to Utd. Played against England a couple of days afterwards as well.
  16. A while ago. PL football has moved on since then and Llorente is now borderline past it, players of his age are being put out to pasture in Japan and the MLS.
  17. We have paid reasonable amounts for iffy players already. Top top players cost more than we can pay so we go for lucky dip options. We have the squad that we can afford and that our position affords us. We can't even get top youth talent any more. Utd, City and Chelsea snap them all up before they're out of school and then farm them out to whomsoever they wish.
  18. Did he DAJ for Spurs? No he didn't. A waste of money for them, would be for us, needs to go back to Spain and stroll around a bit there.
  19. Carrillo was a mediocre player in a poor league, he obviously had no margin for improvement when he moved up to a league where defenders are far, far better than those that they have at Dijon and Amiens. We were stupid to buy him and that's all that there is to it. Scottish football is just one step above public rec football and no reference can be made to it.
  20. I obviously didn't pay enough attention to detail.:)
  21. Low scoring Roses match so far. 20 wickets down already for the day. Neither side got any batting points which is a handy situation for us.
  22. 12th-13th, something like that.
  23. But the 9th August deadline only apples to the UK doesn't it? Might even only apply to the PL for all I know. there is nothing to stop want away players throwing wobblies after the season starts in the UK in the hope of a move to some other European club. Depends why they want awy doesn't it.
  24. Yes, the squad you have on opening day is about all you have until January. Will stop desperation buying for ridiculous sums by teams who lose a couple of August matches perhaps.
  25. See post 849, Osvaldo and Carrillo both fall into that description.
