Targett & Ward-Prowse named in England U21 Euro squad
shurlock replied to S-Clarke's topic in The Saints
Agree. Think there's a potentially talented manager in Southgate, though he's somewhat risk-averse. -
Does it feature any snakes in the grass?

They've pretty much controlled possession but apart from a few dangerous crosses, have run out of ideas in the final third. Jenkinson and Kane have been relatively decent. -

Maybe fractions aren't Koeman's forte since he clearly seems to prefer the latter. Or maybe your hard-on for all things Steven Davis is getting in the way of dispassionate analysis. -

Very good player but it's perfectly fair criticism.

Nice switcheroo. Alas the beauty of your previous post is captured in posterity. A proper Kodak moment.

It's also different in that he had rejected a new contract well before we appeared on the scene. The question was not whether he was leaving, but simply who he was going to join.

The way you go on its a 2min appearance at the end of a game we've won comfortably.

Roy Hodgson warns Clyne over attitude in response to Slovenia game
shurlock replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Partly inclined to agree. He doesn't have the bottle or the brain for the detail and daily grind of club management; but in terms of coddling stars and getting the best out of a team for one-off games, the essence of international football, think he'd be more successful. Also think that his tricks of the trade -basically the El Tel effect- rub off better on English players. Redknapp is the kind of the manager who would try to coax John Terry out of retirement -and probably succeed. Terrible link, btw. -
Depends. Reports suggest that Griezmann and/or Mandzukic are on their way out and they're after a replacement.

Always saw him as the Shane Long of wingers.

Complete garbage. Soldado was a massive hit in Spain and is a reasonable bargaining chip. Nothing like Mayuka.

Transfer update on Clyne, Schneiderlin and transfer priorities
shurlock replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
The scousers have a better chance to win trophies/compete in the CL; but thats not saying much, if we're the baseline. They are stuck in a competitive no-man's land of 5th-7th, teasing and toying with the top four but ultimately falling short. Of course, Clyne is good enough to nail down first team football at Liverpool as is Schneiderlin wherever he goes. Shaw is a bad example - he's still a youngster but will almost certainly flourish once settled. As is Bertrand - can't infer much from not making it at Chelsea. Quality-wise, they are in a different league to Liverpool and even other four sides. -

Hadn't seen this but posted something very similar. There's such a thing as playing your hand too quickly. -

A lot of huffing and puffing. It's not just the case of who's bigger (Liverpool win hands-down); but also Clyne's chances for progression. Clyne goes to Liverpool and it's almost certain he'll be there for the next 3-4 years. If there's anything people can agree on it's that the scousers are way off the top four. Clyne stays with us, he continues to put himself in the shop window and a move to a real contender -and its not as if he hasn't been linked with them in the past. Last summer, Morgan could have gone to Spurs; if, this summer, he moves to United on the back of another good season, perhaps, he'll be thankful for not having cashed in too early. -

Didn't see all the first half but from what I saw JWP gave the ball away very cheaply on at least 2/3 occasions and the Portuguese found it very easy to play through midfield. -
What else have you read?

A tad obsessed, aren't you? Darn right weird.

Fixtures out tomorrow - who will we get first game?

Since we've been back in the prem, all our openers have been away; got to be due a home game, preferably not on TV. -

Don't think he's been as bad as people make out but odd you single out the Leicester game. Was very poor there - at the time, thought it was due to him being clattered and playing with a knock for half the game. -
Disagree. Clyne is on the whole a better defender. Infinitely better in one-on-one situations. Where Chambers perhaps had a defensive edge was in the air. But not enough to offset Clyne's other qualities. Where Chambers had a clearer advantage was in possession - his passing is more composed and less one-footed than Clyne.

What's your point? Is it one of your risible butterflies causing hurricanes truisms? The fact is we did win the FA cup, our only major trophy and yellow and blue has 40+ years of history. And, despite that, no we don't have a fixation with the colour. Plenty of people, for instance, have been happy with black when we've worn it.
