Found this fascinating https://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2019/06/my-boris-story/?utm_source=Adestra&utm_medium=email&utm_content=The%20best%20of%20Coffee%20House%3A%2022%20June&utm_campaign=Best_of_Coffee_House

The Conservative Party is a mess. Swivels and coffindodgers at the Birmingham hustings heckling Ian Dale for having the temerity to question Johnson about recent newspaper reports. Avoids the question three times and goes on to talk about open platforms on routemaster buses of all things to loud applause.
-
Do your Jack Stephens - Harry Maguire joke again. That’s properly funny.
-
Good lad.

I agree and no doubt he'll feel torn and wish he had more room for manoeuvre. But he will have been installed in power for one reason and one reason only, that's to leave on October 31 no ifs no buts. Can't wait to see him get his comeuppance.
-
I like the patronising disdain in "their gospel truth". You don't think some causes are objectively more important than others? And I thought we were all against postmodern moral relativism.
-
A complete nonsequitur pal. Dont say they're different then go on and compare them again Either way, it was a woman, not a bloke who's usually resisting or even throwing punches back (as I well know from sitting in the row right below the boxes in the Itchen North). While some of the reactions have been overblown (see Owen Jones latest gem), the guy comes across as a cnt who lost his rag and lashed out. He could have easily stood up, blocked her path and ended things there and then. No sympathy whatsoever.
-
You think the situations are analogous?

He’ll get absolutely destroyed by the ERG and the wider grassroots if that’s the case. While he might pretend otherwise, the Tory membership isn’t voting for him because hes ‘Boris’ but because of his firm promises on Brexit. The tail is now wagging the dog.
-
Agree. If Hunt had fallen on his sword after Javid's elimination and let Gove proceed uncontested to the membership vote (a huge if which ignores the role of personal ambition), then yes Gove would have stood a better chance against Johnson. Of course, it would have still required a huge collapse from Johnson but if anyone was going to engineer it, it would have been Gove, not Hunt. To use a sporting metaphor (which Gove seems to like), you don't bring on another defender or central midfielder when chasing a game.
-
Nobody takes spiked seriously especially after their funding sources have emerged -that is, except the dullards who don’t mind reading the same cookie-cutter outrage pieces everyday.
-
Don’t follow. Gove could still come out and say he supports or endorses Hunt. More importantly, Gove’s supporters are likely to gravitate to Hunt without any formal alliance or coordination if they -as it appears to be- are primarily interested in stopping Johnson and the risk of a disorderly Brexit. The debate in the leadership election isn’t between leave and remain (as you imply in places) but whether the candidate is willing to push through a no deal no ifs no buts. In other words, there’s no difference between Hunt and Gove who are both appealing to the same constituency. Never mind all the arithmetic and polling points to a comfortable Johnson win.

Bet it’s not the first time he’s done something like that. Wonder how his wife is...

Don’t you worry pal, the EU will have plenty of say when it comes to negotiating a FTA which given its size will be stacked in its favour.
-
No pal- it’s an arrangement that impinges on both sides interests and ‘sovereignty’ so a balanced panel with an impartial member is the fairest solution. You’re in for a rude awakening about the realities of sovereignty and independence when the UK finally gets around to doing it’s own trade deals.
-
Les really showed his true colours citing politicalite as a source. I’m really disappointed in him. I expected better.
-
Likewise a majority of non-EU representatives.
-
No I don’t think the backstop is particularly b*****ks - it’s a necessary evil but has a clear rationale and both sides have incentives to end it as soon as credible alternatives can be found.

Meanwhile Nolan’s little crush, Dominic Raab, threw his toys out of the pram, exercised zero influence behind the scenes, got his sums for his irresponsible tax promises wrong (despite Nolan being a fiscal conservative) and came across as an undemocratic oddball in the leadership debates
-
No because it sounds like it was written by a petulant child with no understanding of how politics or cabinet responsibility works never mind the constraints of Brexit.
-
What does this gibberish mean?
-
Turkeys voting for Christmas.

Probably Rory.
