I know but you’d expect Sims and Elyounoussi to be more involved and there’d be a bit more variety in play. It also makes it hard to get the fullbacks involved as they can’t possibly get up the pitch in such quick time. Anyway it’s preseason and all taken with a pinch of salt.

Sims and Ely especially. Hoj and Romeu not even looking to playing through them. Going very early and direct to Adams and to a lesser extent Long.

Nice touch off the throw-in longy

Alas many of us are forkers.

According to Windows, such is the abysmal quality of football in France that a ligue 2 side couldn’t beat the us women’s national team.

I know -not quite ericb levels but it does seem to come with the turf.

Remember Uncle Les and Wee Ross boasting about how the black box screened players for their attitude, their intangibles in the lingo.

What do you mean stumble into the top 6? Both made the top 6 comfortably and narrowly missed the CL places.

Rousing stuff, if ridiculously naive. Perhaps you can explain why in-work poverty exists and is such a significant problem in the UK (IFS, 2018 ). Presumably those people have followed your advice pal.
-
The pay gap stuff is real but that’s in the context of women and men performing similar activities to similar levels. Which is to say it’s a million miles removed from the football where the quality differences between the women and men’s game are blindingly obvious. I didn’t watch a single minute of the WC - then again I have absolutely zero interest in watching MLS or the Chinese Super League.

A bit more complicated than that pal. If the source isn’t very good, then the sentiment is also likely to be misunderstood and misapplied. For starters, serious political philosophers -Rawls, Sen, Arneson, Barry, Cohen, Roemer etc- understand that there isn’t a clean distinction between equality of opportunity and equality of outcome -that unequal outcomes can result in unequal opportunities if, for example, the rich can pass on all of their connections, knowledge and wealth to their children, send them to private schools, buy them houses etc. Now one can debate how fundamental a critique this is, how much these advantages do, as a matter of fact, skew the distribution of opportunities. But simply to deny or sidestep the interdependence between outcome and opportunity is schoolboy stuff. Jordan Peterson is to political philosophy what Liam Gallagher is to music.

You’re like a professional obituary writer. That comp should age very nicely.
-
This one isn’t up to your high standards Charlie - surely it’s got to be a Darren Powell vs peak Wayne Thomas comp?

Did you send these? Pretty extreme if so.

Eh? I thought the geniuses told us that the Greens or the nationalist parties weren’t remain parties. https://www.ft.com/content/28fea424-9efe-11e9-9c06-a4640c9feebb

Those are noises but if they’re true, then it does make a difference. Just read Marcus Trescothick’s bio. Hasten to add FF’s career at the top level is also probably finished.
-
The only way he is going to revive his career is with game time. If the club is willing to subsidise his wages, then there’s every reason to go on loan unless you’re claiming he has little or no ambition or professional pride. That might be true in your case but not for most of us, never mind highly driven and competitive sportsmen.

I too believe that excellence should be incentivised and rewarded but am not naive to think that people are competing on a level playing and opportunities are fairly distributed. Having the ‘right attitude’ is a necessary but insufficient condition for success and stories of people working their way up from the shop floor to the top are the exception not the rule.

You’re having a laff pal. The Laffer Curve is unanimously rejected by serious economists. But nice political stunt which plays to the usual halfwits. https://okpolicy.org/thats-a-laffer-top-economists-unanimously-reject-that-tax-cuts-will-yield-higher-revenue/ http://www.igmchicago.org/surveys/laffer-curve
