Just seen a link saying we’re back in for Clarke at Sunderland. Wasn’t aware we were previously interested?

Interesting to see he’s back with the squad training now and the club has not been shy in showing him off on the FB feed.

Well that’s what I said - difficult to imagine him being left out, but there were some suggesting a line-up of THB and one of the new guys (Edwards?). I’m not so sure you could say he’s our best CB…THB runs him close I reckon, but still can’t see him being left out unless we’re selling.

Think Sugawara will take a while to settle and initially there will be some on here saying he’s crap and what a rubbish job the recruitment team have done. Eventually though I think it’s a good signing and he’ll come good, but I do wish it was not at the expense of losing KWP. We seem to have a good number of options across the back 4/5 now and I’m of the opinion that in defence it’s often about getting the right combination of players…particularly the CB pairing…that wins the day, above individual players strengths/weaknesses. This actually introduces a little cause for concern, as it may entice RM to tinker rather than persist with regular starters who can learn each others games. It’s difficult to see RM leaving all of Bednarek, Stephens and Manning out of the starting line-up. We’ll see.

I think the point being made is that we were linked, but nothings materialised yet. Same could be said for 3-4 other strong rumours at least but nothing happened. My guess is that we’ve got the easy ones over the line and now they’re working on the ones that will take more detailed negotiations. Just hope they don’t leave it too long to identify and capture a high level striker.

While slightly different players, I can imagine Reed as a replacement for Downes given he now seems to be settled back at WH.

No don’t agree entirely - there’s only one way you can possibly predict if a ‘mature’ player will perform to expected or better levels and that’s to review historic data. In Che’s case he’s hardly set the World alight both in the Prem or indeed last year in the Championship. Thats all you need to know he’s not worth a new contract, but his obstinate behaviour in signing a new contract with Saints makes it a nailed on NO for me.

Sounds like a good signing - just a bit surprised to read that he’s not considered ‘one for the future’.

That’s interesting. You could argue that we’re holding our own with the THB £20m fee, however I do hope that’s not our only big spend this window. There can’t be too many more £m’s in the bank and we desperately need an upgrade on Adams.

Isn’t Lumley still with us making up the three (although obviously Baz is out long term)? As others have said, can’t see another GK coming in as no.1 when McCarthy is in place.

Good - I wouldn’t want him for more than that money. Injury issues aside, he’s nowhere near the performance levels KWP showed last season (arguably not his best). I think most supporters understand the need to trade players, but for goodness sake to survive in the EPL you’ve got to bring in at least an equal level or preferably improve. In fact I’d argue he’s no better and no less a risk than Bree.

Would Anthony Martial be worth a punt as a free agent? Good age, has got EPL experience and knows how to score a goal at the highest level.
