I’ve not read all posts here, but it seems one of the most important points about the current Northam arrangement is being missed. When away fans get a larger share of the Northam, the most vocal part of SMS is disrupted and yes, the atmosphere is detrimentally affected. This was particularly evident in the Prem when away support was typically bigger. I applaud the club for attempting to fix the issue once and for all.

This surely has to be seen as good news? Think the atmosphere has been tainted in the past due to away supporters being situated in the Northam, mainly because the most vocal home support is split asunder when ‘big’ teams come to visit. Sitting mostly in the Kingsland I get a good perspective of how the home support detrimentally affects the away supporters - in short it really doesn’t. The best that can be said is that sandwiching the away fans between the Itchen North and the Northam can be a good thing, but it’s rarely completely effective. Of course this will only work if (a) home supporters get behind the move and stay put and (b) there’s a renewed effort to sing often and in unison, thereby making the effort worthwhile. The club also needs to find a way of allowing flags to be displayed in the home end to really complete the ‘kop’ look and feel. I hope it works because it has the promise of making a matchday more enjoyable for ALL Saints fans IMO.

Absolutely this. Just don’t understand why anyone would want to diss such a successfully influential person in the clubs history. Sure, he broke some eggs in making the omelette - but it needed doing, was all done with the blessing of Markus and laid the foundations for a remarkable series of promotions that many thousands enjoyed. Move on.

Who?!? Seriously though, having read about him a bit seems like a good option to have with a FA Cup run still going on, some niggling injuries (and the prospect of more), the Afcon competition just started and a generally thinnish squad. Bringing in more experienced older players that are out of favour like Fraser and now Rothwell, the strategy has a kind of Laurie Mac flavour about it. Good luck to the lad if it happens. Just hope it doesn’t somehow inhibit other pressing areas such as attacking prowess.

Great game. Fraser makes such a difference. Manning is gash at any kind of set piece.

I went to the away game and we totally bossed it, but remember that was a different Manager playing different tactics and they couldn’t get near us. My SW supporting mate said we were the best team he’d seen at theirs and that included many in the Prem. What I remember from the game was I couldn’t understand why they didn’t press us more…they constantly just sat back waiting for us to cock up basically, which we rarely did and if we did, they were not good enough to make it count. That will NOT happen in this next game…it will be a much harder game.

It’s going to come down to who has the best clinical finisher(s). If we manage to maintain possession under pressure (I’m thinking mainly Manning and Alcarez here) then limiting their chances will obviously limit the number of shots on target. The one issue I’m slightly nervous about is that when a lesser skilled team presses hard, that can result in injuries to our players when they come in late and now is not the time to lose more of our better players.

Not a bad draw…one we can win but also not a complete upset / travesty if we lost. 0-1 Saints.

They’ve really started to click under the new regime now and have some potency in attack. Think they’ll be coming into this one with their tails up but if we play to our best, without stupid mistakes and sloppy defending from Manning, we’ll win. 2-1 Saints.
